Thank you for all the birthday wishes! Sorry it's taken so long to post. My mom (and best buddy) came down on Friday. We visited a U-pick flower place, farm stand, lunch a the Fisherman's market, etc. Just a fun "girls" day. Saturday we lounged around in the sun (yes, we ENJOY it here, there's been darned little of it this year) all morning. We went and painted pottery in the afternoon and did a little shopping. Sunday after church, we went to a BBQ & pool party at my son-in-law's mom's house. Two birthdays on either side of mine in the their house and it's fun to see "the kids" at the same time. Mom headed home in the evening. It was a wonderful weekend. We had our FIRST 90 degree day on Saturday. While most of the nation is trapped in the heat wave, we've been extraordinarily cool. Yesterday's high: 75, this morning's low: 48. Feels like fall already and we haven't had summer. I'm still eating snow peas for pete's sake! On the bad news side, we got a phone call at 2am Monday from my SIL to tell us that MIL was taken to the hospital. MIL is 85 and suffered a head injury from a fall about 1 1/2 years ago. She's been in a nursing home since. They have now diagnosed a (likely) cancerous, large tumor in her cervix, uterus. The options are somewhat limited due to the location, size and her age. We're still waiting for the biopsy reports, but the technician is saying Stage 3 cervical cancer. Still lots of unknowns about how we proceed from here, but I probably won't be around much for a bit. Thanks again guys... I took the Bernina in and they made and adjustment right on the spot and even gave me a free pack of needles and it worked fine there... of course the minute I try to use it at home, well... we'll see what happens. The lady told me not to threaten it or use bad words because the machine will misbehave even worse! I'll try to be good... I ended up not having to work the second job last night... another guy showed up because he misread the schedule and since he doesn't have a car and I do and only live 15 minutes away, I let him stay and I traded days with him :o) Lars, I know enough to know that Mr. Foxworthy's first name is Jeff and not John :-p Nice try though.... maybe you were on coffee break when you had your redneck training session... I bet you also missed the lesson on how to spit tobacco into an empty beer can and how to keep your double wide on the ground during a hurricane as well :o) Partymusic, I'm sorry nobody has done anything for you in the last 7 years... sometimes I wish we here on the CF could start our own neighborhood or compound or something so we could all be together and enjoy and celebrate and all that happy stuff :o) Ellen, I'm going for LPN... some hospitals aren't hiring them anymore, but it's a stepping stone to get to RN. The RN classes here are hard to get into and have long waiting lists and one is more readily accepted if they are already and LPN and do a bridge program... I have to take an admission test in January and I've already purchases a huge thick study guide so I can brush up on all the stuff I forgot since high school... at least there are things called Youtube tutorials now :o)

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I have had a lovely day. I slept in the extra hour and got up to find that Max got up early and had gone out quietly to get a lovely bouquet of pink roses for me. The flowers, a card, a latte and some pastries he picked up were waiting for me. DMIL stopped over in the late morning with a card and a gift. Michael and our DIL and a number of friends called throughout the day (we are having a family celebration of all the fall birthdays a little later). We had a leisurely afternoon with the Sunday papers in the house and outside enjoying the lovely mid 70s sunshine. Max and I went out to dinner to a restaurant we have been wanting to try. This is Boulder's restaurant week and loads of restaurants have great specials. For starters we had Caesar salad and homemade gnocchi with a delicate oven roasted tomato sauce and mozzarella bocconcini. I wish I could make gnocchi as tender as those were, oh geez, I wish I could make any kind of gnocchi. We both had braised pork osso bucco with figs and ragout of flagelets. We had the same dessert too, a divine chocolate truffle torte with fresh raspberries and blackberries, robed with a lavender syrup. We finished with a pot of French press decaf and talk of a little Port later at home. It was a lovely meal and a great opportunity to try a new restaurant. Lee

Thank you all. My day started, as always, with a latte in bed, thanks to Max.

We are planning a nice snack dinner, shrimp, smoked salmon, cheese, an eggplant bruschetta, fresh veggies and fruit, and Champagne while we watch election returns. We voted by mail weeks ago and had no line at all to drop our ballots in a drive by mailbox. Last night's news said that between 61 and 70% of registered voters in Colorado had already mailed in ballots or done early on site voting. I think that is an amazing number and should insure short lines everywhere today.

Later in the week we will have dinner out at one of our fav restaurants.
