Owl Cam

This webcam is at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera, Florida. This is the second year that Mama Owl has nested in this planter, near the ground. She's a very good mom and was very protective over her egg before it hatched. I hear that it's very unusual for a Great Horned Owl to nest this close to the ground. They have the area blocked off from the public with yellow crime scene tape, so people can't get too close. My son works for Brevard County and he has a "birds eye view" from his office.

Thanks, Ann! I even liked the swaying palms. :-)

Sometimes I miss Florida, where my parents lived for 30 years.

I have read that you can make a "box" out of the cheap fencing allowing the Martins to get in but that an Owl can not reach in. I had a Screech Owl reach in and Take a Woodpecker roosting in my Bluebird box :( Ya I know they gotta eat too.

Eastern screech owl nest box

Three years ago I built a screech owl nest box and put it in a maple about 15 feet above the ground. After a starling nest and two years of squirrels, a family of red morph screech owls have moved in. The tree is at the edge of a wooded area facing south toward a 20 acre area of open organic farm, some wooded area and open field. The fledglings can often be seen peaking out of the hole. I live in eastern Long Island NY.

well live cam to what? there are thousands of live cams, to zoos, to Africa wildlife, to beaches, to New Orleans, you name it there are cams to watch. If you can be specific I can try to find some. I love to watch the ones at the beaches like Hawaii and just imagine I am there LOL! there are sites like this one that will list several different cams you can look at, be careful when searching for live cams however or you may find yourself in some questionable areas with live cams of the human animal variety! LOL Top Nature Cams EarthCam For Kids! http://www.wildearth.tv/ here is the page for the Galveston cams I like to check those since it is near me. Galveston.com Webcams Hawaii Beach Cams

I think our entire county has adopted this little owl. He is adorable. Mom has begun spending less time with the baby. They say she is close by, watching over her little one. This distance from the baby helps teach him/her to begin being alone.

Oh my goodness...how cute he is! I have the Eagle Cam up and I've been watching the new eaglets (that just hatched a couple days ago). So now I drop in on the little owl. Gosh I love the Internet!!

Thanks so much for sharing.

Awesome!!! I really enjoy seeing this. The winds today and the last few days have been 25-40 MPH and are quite chilly. The chick looks good and well fed so hopefully he is warm enough. It is nice to see the Good Ole Boy Commissioners aren't trying to rid the building of the nest. I remember how many bald eagle, osprey and hawks nests were on the property before the Brevard County Government Center AKA Cow Palace (which is the nick name many Brevard residents use) was built. It was a shame to see them all destroyed.

Here is the link to the owl cam direct.
