If this is the layout I'm thinking of, I would put the prep sink 2' to the left of the range (you may have to scoot the range down a foot or so to the right). As I remember, you had a ton of counterspace to the right of the range. The prep sink ideally would be about 18" from the corner therefore also close to the oven stack. Am I remembering the right layout?

I think I'd go for the situation as Remodelfla suggested, since 24"-30" (maybe even 36") is pretty good room for most prep activities, while still not putting the sink too far from the stove. But it'd be nice to have some room, as she said, on the left side of the sink, too.

Thanks for the help. Yes, remodelfla, I think you're remembering the right layout which is impressive. =) We've been wondering what to do in that area anyway. I'll explore the sink idea.

I had a favorite linking to a GW that used her prep sink faucet pullout also as a potfiller. All my GW favorites seem to no longer work so I cannot share it. Her faucet was a Grohe Lady lux plus pull out. The picture showed the faucet resting on a pot rim, filling the pot with water.
Perhaps some one else can remember/link it?

Erikahn actually uses a potfilled for her prep sink near the cooktop. I am planning to have a sink close to the cooktop so that I can use my pull out as a potfiller. Not even close to installation though so I can't tell you if this will work!

I'm doing something quite similar to Erikahn with my prep sink. It will be close to the left side of my cook top, probably about six inches or so from the edge. My prep sink will be a round 18" sink Ticor, with a Karbon Kohler faucet that can function as a potfiller (i.e. I can fill up the pot hands free). Erikahn's kitchen was my inspiration for this set up.

My counter/cooktop/sink and faucet will be installed in about two weeks, so I can share pictures then!

Does anybody have a prep sink that's near their cook top but below upper cabinets? I'm not sure if that would work...

Is it possible to retro-fit a prep sink? I don't have one, but I would like one by my cooktop and the granite and cabinets are already in.

If you can work doing any task at a counter with uppers above, I don't know why you couldn't use a prep sink that way. Could you make the uppers higher/shorter right there if you were going to feel crowded?

There aren't too many examples of prep sinks on perimeter cabs. I have one in mind I remember from a few years ago. If I can find it on the FKB, I'll let you know here later.

Just a comment about prep space...I had 24" b/w the sink and range in my old kitchen and it was in no way enough space. It was my only prep space and I was constantly shifting things around to try to work there. It was one of the driving forces of our remodel and my #1 need in the new kitchen...more prep space and in a "smart" location. Personally, I think you need at least 36" for prepping if at all possible.

That said, if you have 36" b/w the refrigerator & prep sink, then I think you'll be OK...prep in that space & use the 24" b/w the cooktop & prep sink for cooking workspace.

Sochi, that is nearly exactly the configuration I initially considered. Could I ask what led you to a round prep sink? Also, I love the Karbon but grew concerned that it would not fit in my transitional/traditional kitchen and that it would not match the main sink faucet. Are you doing basically the same type of faucet at each sink?

I found it...Dinobambino has a prep sink right next to her microwave cabinet, I think it is, and under upper cabs. Her FKB posting is linked below, but, unfortunately, you can barely see the sink and her photobucket album seems to be set to private.

Kitchen angst - I thought that a round sink for a prep sink would be unique, different. I was a little nervous about it and posted a thread asking if the wise people here had any concerns about round prep sinks, no one voiced any. We have the circle shaped repeated in a few places in our interior design (in stained/etched glass, in a railing between our living and dining room) so I wanted to repeat the pattern in a subtle way.

The Karbon has grown on me. When I first saw it months ago here I thought it was the ugliest faucet ever. They I saw it as unique (which always gets me). Finally after couple of months I liked it and eventually had to have it! I love it for the prep sink as it can function as a pot filler and fold away to be very unobtrusive when not in use. It doesn't match my main faucet, which is the Kalia Elito Diver (see link). The Karbon and the Elito Diver are both stainless steel, but they certainly don't match. I don't think that is a big issue as they are not side by side. I love both of them - the jewels of my kitchen.

I've seen the Karbon in many transitional kitchens, it looks fantastic. I'm not sure it would work in a real old-style traditional, but you never know! I like mixing things up a bit.
