Old Dutch, along with Comet and Bon Ami, was one of the big brands of pumice-based kitchen cleaners; its railcars were even featured on Tyco and Lionel trains as late as the 1970s. But the product is nowhere to be found on the web. And the empty can we threw away after we took the picture of it last week was NO help, though we THINK we got it at a dollar store. A bit of Old Dutch history. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, a trademark for Old Dutch was filed September 15, 1905 and registered March 27, 1906. I so rarely come to this forum that I didnt even have it bookmarked - I have a question but began to glance over the thread titles and this one stopped me dead it my tracks. I just KNEW what the pictures would look like if anyone posted one! I love this thread, it was so much fun to read. Im very particular about everything - except my cookie sheets and, I must confess, my muffin tins. They look just as bad as the sheets. Well, they did. Besides some family and a couple who are more family than some of my family, we unexpectedly but gladly insisted upon another couple coming over for Thanksgiving dinner when I found out that bit by bit their plans unraveled. I have recently been to her home for a cocktail type of party and her cookie sheets and baking pans were well used but pristine. The idea that she would see the shape of mine threw me into a panic and I went out and replaced them all. Mine get badly burnt by the use of spray pam. I tend to use parchment paper/cupcake papers but all it takes is one spray without elbow greasing them clean and that stuff burns in the very next time they are used. I have sworn to myself that I will keep them looking nice and so far I actually have. Check back in a year though, and that first photo in this thread will likely be what mine will look like. I didnt know that parchment paper could be used for roasting. What a nifty piece of info! With my lipped pans I would use aluminum foil and a bit of olive oil but its wonderful to know that I can use the paper for things other than just normal baking temps which are generally fast baking. With organic, people think it's just the way the cotton is grown. That is part of it but a small part. The biggest issue for sheets is in the dyeing and finishing. That's where all the chemicals are used. Some sheets actually also have a chemical coating to make them feel smoother. A lot of the finishing chemicals get washed out when sheets are laundered before use. Some wash out over time. Others are used in treating the cotton fibers. So if you're going organic, and it says "100% organic cotton" that's one thing. But the sheeting itself would need to be milled in a global certified mill. Here is the info for that from Coyuchi's website: "This product is certified to meet the Global Organic Textile Standard [GOTS], the toughest organic-textile standard in the world. To obtain the GOTS "organic" label, a product: Must contain at least 95% organic fiber. Must not be treated with bleach, formaldehyde or any other toxic substances. "Unless sheeting is GOTS certified (I just bought some towels which are) I wouldn't pay extra for organic. Coyuchi's towels are GOTS certified, but not the sheets. But they are specialists. So if you dislike sateen, and want percale, I wouldn't go there. As we know, thread count can be tricky as there are no standards and no verification. IOW it's basically marketing. I did a lot of research on sheet quality and it is all provided by retailers who are not buying from the mill. Also little information as there are no U.S. owned mills that produced sheeting any longer. It's all done overseas. I know that using a flat sheet as a bottom sheet appears to be returning. Of course, hotels do that and I just cannot stand it as the sheets work loose and bunch up. I would measure my mattress and buy bottom sheets that fit. And when replacing a mattress be sure it doesn't create problems.

Jillius, I can recommend a dishwasher safe cookie sheet and jelly roll pan but you won't like the price. I have the Gold ones which are no longer made but will come up on ebay for about 6x what I paid for them 10years ago. My Gold Jelly roll pans did not have the handles of the newer aluminum finish. They are great pans. You can thank me later once you recover from the shock :-) I second the recommendation for Demeyere. I have a mix of Demeyere and All Clad. I prefer the Demeyere everytime. Mine is the Demeyere Sirocco which they no longer make. For storage, I use all glass containers. My favorites are the Glasslock. Lots of options on the manufacturer website for containers include round bowls, containers with handles, etc. Costco carries Glasslock and for the sets, it is a great value.
