Thank you! I'm leaning towards the garnet myself.. because I am too a red kinda gal, but was afraid it would be too loud if you know what I mean. I was thinking it would be more serene with the blue/green, however the granite has specks of garnet in it, which I think would look really nice. Sorry, skimchi, for taking so taking so long to answer - it is a Crema Bordeaux. Just thought that I would thank everyone for taking the time to help me in my decision - much, much appreciated! I went to the granite store today and ordered a piece to go behind the stove - picked a piece that has a big splotch of the peachy coloured bit as well as the burgundy waves. I've ordered a custom bevel to match that of my cab doors, on three sides (top near the fan and then the two sides).....and to be able to accomodate the CHOCOLATE coloured matte tiles nicely. Sigh, yes, we went with chocolate. DH really really didn't like the cream, so I tried out the skinner 2 x 12 chocolate tiles behind the sink - interspersed with 2 x 2 of the little glass tiles.....and we love it!!! So I tried to be higher end, changed up the pattern, and gave it a go on the shortest of the L shaped backsplash walls....with a bit less success. The colour of the tile reminds me of hot chocolate. Maybe I'll tire of it by summer, and given the skills of the person who applied the tile (me), we'll be able to simply pop off the tiles and try something else :) I'll post photos in a couple of weeks, once the granite is in and the tiles are on! Again, thanks to everyone for sharing their opinions - it helped us truly explore our likes and dislikes!

How much backsplash do you have? Although I like the mosaic, if it were the whole backsplash I am not sure I would like it as much - it is much busier than the subways. But that is my preference and I agree if you want the backsplash to be the star, the mosaic will stand out. Other considerations - mosaic is more grout, and you need to be accurate lining up the sheets of mosaic, or it will look off. Have you considered running a few rows of the mosaic through the subway, similar to what you have done with the listello? I couldn't be sure flipping back and forth between pictures if the colors would work together.

Yay!!!! I'm happy for you and think it's a great choice. The 3" X 6" subway tile is a classic for a reason. I personally love the interplay with gloss and matte, so were it my kitchen, I'd absolutely do it, but it has ramifications for your layout. Do you want one pattern throughout, or do you want a decorative element over the range? Every time I add a touch of visual interest with tile, I try to simplify something else, so if I mix colors, I keep shapes uniform. With the color and shape uniform, I would absolutely mix glossy and matte, and I'd do it in a pattern. I love the argyle look. If you want a complicated layout, however, you might again consider a single sheen. The classic subway has what is sometimes called a 1/2 step, meaning the subsequent row is 1/2 a tile offset. By contrast the Heath Ceramics image above has a 1/3 step. You should discuss the layout with your installer, show him pictures of what you have in mind. There are as many options here as you can imagine. Below are just a few of them; the offset bonds are called "stretchers" here.... As for convincing your husband, I'm sure he will be relieved that you found something you love. Beauty is worth waiting for!!
