WHAT'S eating my green/yellow/orange bell peppers??
Comments (17)You guys really saved me. I had no idea what was slithering from the earth in the dark of night. I went out at midnight and I was amazed! There must have been hundreds of these slugs on the ground, in the grass and on the privacy fence and I had never seen more thn one or two before this in the yard. I set out beer traps as was suggested, no yeast because we don't bake, and immediately these things came out to feast. Easily caught 50 of them. I periodically checked the plates I set out and dumped them in one bucket and added more beer. However the ones in the bucket started crawling out. Fixed that buy adding a little salt. Does anyone know if they will avoid the beer trap if you add a little salt to it for effect? I think some of them survived after a night of binge drinking and will live to tell the tale! One thing I did find is that the plates need to be slightly in the ground if possible for easier access to the trap....See MoreGreen pepper plants in trouble

Comments (13)The green flies are Long-Legged flies, a totally beneficial insect. Both adults and larvae are predaceous on other insects. How large is the other fly? I want to say that it's a tachinid, but won't swear to it. If so, another beneficial (unless you raise butterflies). BUT, whatever they are...they are not responsible for your damage. Flies don't chew. ;-)...See MoreWhat to do with green peppers
Comments (14)if you like the flavor of stuffed peppers, the family liked a recipe I made a few weeks ago called something like stuffed pepper explosion. I'm planning to chop some peppers for the freezer to use in the future for this recipe. There are also soup recipes based on stuffed peppers so I would slice/chop and freeze what I needed for future recipes. On the Perfect Pickler website there's a recipe for salsa starter. As long as you use the right amount of salt in the brine, it doesn't matter what variety or combination of peppers you use. I like I plain on my omelets (it's fermented so is a probiotic) but in January I added fresh paste tomatoes for salsa to serve at a party. It got raves. I have a half gallon canning jar to use for larger quantities of things I want to ferment. The gadget fits on any wide mouth canning jar. After about 4 days, I put a regular lid on the jar and put in the fridge. There are other similar gadgets on the market including the old fashioned technique of using a crock and weighted plate. I was very happy with a simple pickled hot pepper recipe I canned last year. It was the star ingredient in a corn and cheese dip served at a party....See Morelakeguy35
