They look nice and a great price, but I would take one of your throw pillows to make sure they match, and not clash with your existing sofa/loveseat.

Think I can talk DH into selling the LS? That's the part I'm afraid of. I'd put the chairs in the bay, but then during the holidays we can move them to the other end of the area rug without blocking traffic?

Could you put the loveseat in a bedroom, maybe the guest bedroom or your home office? The CL chairs are lovely and a great price! The problem is that they are similar to but not a match for the sofa. I would think about buying them with an eye towards slipcovers that contrast with the sofa.

Yes, I was thinking the room would be too blah with the taupe chairs and khaki (actually more of a mocha) sofa. So we'd have to slipcover them or get some patterned throws. Unfortunately we have no room anywhere else in the house for the LS - though I *do* have a large porch I'm looking to furnish LOL! ("You *might* be a redneck if your new porch furniture is your old LR furniture..." - Jeff Foxworthy).

ajsamama, I know I've seen this room quite a few times, but is there a way to put the love seat facing the bay and still get the chairs to put in the bay for extra seating? It's hard to tell how well their color would match, but you could take a pillow along when you look at them.

IMHO, what the room needs is color. I would leave the loveseat. I would get rid of those throw pillows and get new ones in an accent color. Perhaps a larger rug with some color, and paint the walls. The chairs are nice, but you would still have the monochromatic problem.

I much prefer two club chairs to a loveseat, but I agree those are not the right chairs. I'd prefer to see something in a pattern or perhaps some exposed wood--esp. as you have a fabric ottoman.

Here is a pic of my FR sectional which is similar in style to your sofa/loveseat. We added a chair, black ottoman and some inexpensive decorative cushions from Kohls. At one point I had a colorful throw as well, but DH took it away as he claimed it interferred with family seating.

Becky - the room is only 13 ft wide so putting the LS at the other end interferes with traffic since we have the table there. I'm trying to talk DH into bumping out that double window to make a deeper nook, or even switching the window and the slider and making a sunroom, but that's not happening any time soon. Neither is changing the wall color (though if we end up redoing the tile this summer and have to repaint due to damage maybe I can talk him into it - any suggestions?).

I used to have a loveseat in my living room bay window. I redid the room a couple of years ago and swapped the loveseat out for two slipper chairs and I much prefer the look of the two chairs to the loveseat.

I think it looks like the scale of the CL chairs looks very good. You don't want to try to fit largish chairs in the bay or it'll look crowded. I think the color of the chairs is unfortunate. Even if they matched your sofa perfectly, you do need some color/pattern in that room. I think slipcovers are a great idea!

My room and bay are an entirely different style but, you can see what I mean about adding color with the chairs. (Still needs more color....I'll be painting this room eventually.)

Are you sure the two chairs would actually take less space than the loveseat? It's a pretty small loveseat, from what I can see. I'd measure out the chairs and do a newspaper template of their footprint and see how they'd actually fit, with space in between the way you'd set them up.

Oh I'm sure that the two chairs will take more room than the loveseat does but, they'll be easier to move and find "temporary homes" for during the holiday season if she wants to put her tree in the bay. (I've done that in the past too.) Depending on the tree, she might even be able to leave one "almost in" the bay. I agree that doing the newspaper templates are a good idea but, just looking at the photo of the loveseat in the bay, looks like there's ample room around it to accomodate the chairs.

i like the idea of putting chairs there, but do not have a problem with the love seat either. what I DO think is that you need to have a break on the neutral color a bit and that those CL chairs might just be a bit 'much' Do you have a floor lamp you will put there next to the love seat? And maybe a patterned afghan or pillow with give that bay area some POP? May I also suggest that yuou move the tall narrow bookcase in the corner next to couch to another spot? It distracts me from the pretty bay area. Maybe even on the other side would be better where the victrola? is or in that dining area off kitchen. then you could put a grouping of prints or plates etc down the wall there.

oopsie - where in the "nook" would you put the bookcase? It's where it is now because 1) I had planned on doing built-on bookcases on either side when we built the house, had been looking for a matching (IKEA) one for other side until my dad brought the Victrola over and 2) now it balances the Victrola.

The Victrola is on that side b/c of where the crank is.

The LS is 5ft long and 3ft deep - so can't move it to other end of area rug until we make the nook bigger, since it's too hard to get past Ds's chair. I don't want to move the sofa down closer to the bay - I like it centered on the slider.

Eventually we'll build in bookcases and a window seat (not deep - will follow the contours of the bay so we can still fit the tree). The opening to the bay is 9 ft across, with 1ft 11" wall space on either side (where bookcase and Victrola are). Until we can afford to get that done we're living with the sofabed (bad idea to put it in the "great room" open to kitchen), we were trying to seat 5-7 people so bought LS and then found ottoman at GW, but I'm willing to get rid of the LS and ottoman as long as we can still seat 4-5 comfortably (not on wooden dining chairs & barstools). 2 chairs could be split up on either side of slider, LS cannot ;-)

I sort of like the monochromatic scheme (very soothing), but would like to bring more pattern (besides tone-on-tone stripes) into the room. I wouldn't be adverse to painting the walls a different color when/if we redo the tile in the kitchen, but it would have to work with the oak cabinets, pine trim, tan carpet, linen shades and khaki/mocha sofa. Well, maybe not the carpet b/c if/when we do tile (and sunroom) I'd likely be putting hardwoods in FR. But the sofa and shades have to stay - we have too much $$ into them.

No help on color. I'm not one that knows paint colors by name. I even forget the names of most that I've used in our own home.
Will the sofa fit back into the bay at least some so you could put the loveseat where the sofa is now and have room for the chairs? I'm just saying this because I know my hubby would never let me sell just the love seat to such a new set just because I wanted a couple chairs instead. Well actually, I wouldn't want to ask him. Maybe he would surprise me and agree. Hmmmm... Have you asked your hubby? The worst he can say is "no". Well he might add "are you crazy?" LOL

Becky - the sofa is about 7ft so I suppose it would fit in 9ft bay, maybe pulled forward farther than LS. But snce it's a sleeper, it weighs a ton and would be much harder to move for tree. I don't really want to *add* seating so much as work out a better arrangement. They didn't have matching chairs when we bought the sofabed so we got the LS instead - I should have just bought the sofabed and kept looking for small club chairs (saw some nice leather "bucket" chairs at Raymor & Flanigan). But that was b4 I discovered this forum and I was thinking "matchy-matchy" like my mom LOL!

I haven't dared ask DH yet. I don't think he's accepted the $25 wicker settee, and now I'm going to ask him to spend more $ on furniture? Actually, I think he'll say no, since he told me last year "No more furniture until the house is done!" He hates moving things around to paint and put up trim, now we're looking at having to replace tile in the foyer, PR, kitchen and mudroom so wll have to move range and fridge into FR. And if we bump out the nook or switch the slider and the window to put a sunroom on then we'll have to move the FR furniture. So getting more inside furniture right now is a bad idea - I'll have to stick to wicker for a while LOL.

But I'd still like to see if people think 2 chairs instead of LS is a good idea, and what wall color would work with shades and sofa.

In our last living room we had a sofa, loveseat and one chair. That worked wonderfully.
I do understand where you hubby is coming from considering we live in an unfinished home too. But I also understand where you are coming from since you want the home to at least have that finished feel. I know I do!
If you only had to move the sofa twice a year, that wouldn't be so bad though. And you'd probably have room to put a sofa table behind the sofa in the bay area for a lamp and some other decor items.

Decor items! Ha! (not laughing at you Becky). I had put the box of LPs and the wicker toy chest full of board games into the coat closet when we put the tree up, shoved the ottoman against the wall (had to move the end table *right* up against the sofa) b/t the ice box and the sofa. Now the toy chest is back in the bay and the LS may go back there too so we can put the ottoman in front of the slider. The kids still fight over who can lie on the ottoman and I don't like them putting their feet on the ice box or dropping toys on top of the trim stacked against the wall.

Any "decor" in this house has to be high up and/or secured to the wall!

Actually, I have 2 small caned Victorian chairs I was going to use in the bay (with bookcases on the sides) before we decided that wasn't going to work with the kids. My 6-yr old DD plays in the FR since she doesn't have much floor space in her BR. At least I got the Ariel tent out of the FR!

I say leave the loveseat. I think it works. I'd get a large dark leather tufted ottoman and add some colorful pillows and a coordinating window treatment!

I guess I should know that considering I watch out two year old grandson a couple times a week. Although he is beginning to understand when I say something he's picked up isn't a toy that's it belongs to Grammy to not throw it to the floor and watch it smash into smithereens. The first time he did that he felt so bad he reached to pick up a piece of glass and had to have stitches.
So moral of the story is when the kids are little decorate with bright colored toys of their choice. It makes a home look happy and well loved. They grow up way too fast as it is.
