Gap between countertop and range - what can be done?
Comments (6)Hi Momtoalex, When I first got my DW, I was devasted. I thought that it had to much room on either side. It was not until I saw other DW that I realized it was normal to have a tiny bit of space. I know this is a range but maybe seeing other ranges can help you see if yours is way off. Does your range have little feet on the bottom? My Bosch does which can help make the range more level. There should also be an anti tip device too. How to check if something is level would be to use an actual tool. This way you can help center the range. A simple way if you do not have a level would be to find a marble. If the marble rolls to one side, you know it needs to be lifted a bit. I would also take some photos for GW. That way we can see what the issues are exactly and help you find a solution. If the space is huge, you can buy a simple product or have your counter people fashion a sliver of stone to help cover the space. Meanwhile here are some images of ranges that might help you determine how terrible the space you have is. A slide in range should have little to no space but a regular oven range is going to have milimeters of space on either side. Good luck and hopefully you can get this fixed. ~boxerpups DIY Tiles with kitchen in a bag Kenmore website Google range Range buying guide This Old House farm kitchen Stove and tile backsplash...See MoreHelp: how to disguise 4" gap between wall and new gas range
Comments (8)If I am visualizing this correctly, I think that a shelf is a great idea. Whether this is a range with a back or a slide in with a level top, it should work. SS would be my first choice, easy and readily available. You also might be able to find a scrap of matching pre-fab granite either at a local yard/shop or online, if yours is one of the common granites. If you have more of your tile, you could also tile a piece of wood for the shelf and bring the wall tile down to counter level. Edited to add: Can not your plumber move the gas outlet closer to the wall? Mine was moved with little difficulty, but he had access from the basement....See MoreMore Ikea help - gaps between base cabinets
Comments (60)I deleted my comment, toyed around with it in IKEA's website and realized that if I moved the stove to the fridge wall I'd have to get rid of my lower cabinet and add 2 12's.... Not nearly as functional. There would be a plus to being able to see into the living room, but the negative is that I would always be in the way when I'm cooking. Our fridge can't go into the corner because of our heater, even beside the window is out because of that. I think I'm just going to be stuck with some filler pieces. At the end of the day, it'll be 1000x more functional than it is now. I do think that I'm going to move the microwave beside the fridge, and put a nice hood over my range. Will just have to adjust the height of my cabinets on the basement wall. ETA: Weird question... if I use 20 inch cabinets above the microwave, can I line up the bottom of that cabinet with the bottom of the fridge cabinet and have them at different heights? I can't find a taller fridge cabinet.... is there one? Kitchen with hood...See MoreHas anyone ever left a gap between kitchen cabinets to use for storage
Comments (24)Both Rev-a-shelf and Slide Out Shelves offer pullout fillers that will fit a 4" gap, so it doesn't have to be an open cubby if you don't want it to be. But do measure carefully to be sure that the gap really will be 4", which I think will make the actual available storage more like 3" (double check with the designer), and that the stepstool will also fit height-wise with the mechanism in place. I have seen open cubbies that are nicely finished on some kitchen reveals here, also, used for towels, sheet pans, even paper towel holders - the first and last with pullout hangers for them....See Morekgolby
