Please help...how big should the gap be between range and cabinet
Comments (17)Like everyone above says, the cabs should be tight to the range. Our kitchen cabs are within 1/8" of the range on each side and the granite is flush. However, it is possible that your cabinet maker really does mean 1.5 inches ... because that did happen to us recently with a new build townhome we bought. Never occurred to me in a million years that this was even possible, but here that's what the builder actually gave us and then tried to pass off as 'standard' in our PDI. Needless to say I threw a complete and total hissy fit lol, and they did come back and add filler panels in the days after we closed. I'll show you pics of it with the gap so you can see just how completely ridiculous it looks. Here's our home kitchen and what the flush cabs should look like: And here's our townhouse kitchen when at closing. Whatever you do, ensure your cabinet maker does not copy this look. :-)...See MoreHow do I cover this gap between wall and stairs? Photos!
Comments (13)Baseboard will look strange here. I was the one who suggested you make a block for this area. But here is another idea that will look very good. You could use some full profile door casing. By full profile, I mean the kind of case that's used with corner blocks because it is a full 3/4" on both sides----not tapered. Some of it has flutes or beading that would look nice and some of it is 5" wide. I would use something wider than your baseboard. Here is something else for you to look at----it might give you some good ideas. This website is one I found a while back for corbels, but they also have some neat wood panels that you might find useful. It's under "new products" on their site. www.osbornewood.com...See More2" gap behind freestanding gas range?
Comments (50)In new build homes should contractors be installing gas stove piping in a universal manner to accommodate most new model gas stoves? To my understanding, most new stoves no longer have that extra space behind the units which prevents a flush fit. We just moved into our newly built home 3 weeks ago and had no idea this would be an issue. The building contractors excuse was, that had we purchased the appliances through them the stove would have fit. We didn’t purchase through the contractor because the type of stove we wanted wasn’t offered. We learned from the plumber that installed the stove that most new stoves have the same issues. if that’s the case, then the builder should have considered that. Comments (5)Are the cabinets level in each direction? Meaning -- is this the wall out of plumb, or the cabinets? If it's the wall, I think your best bet with a gap that size would be to replace the countertop with one that can be custom fit to the wall along the back side. Butcherblock would be one inexpensive option, assuming you have woodworking tools (Ikea carries butcherblock for a very reasonable price). If you can't cut the top or have someone else do it, then you could use a separate backsplash -- not one that is part of the countertop -- and depending on its thickness it might cover a lot of that gap. Tile wouldn't cover much, but a butcherblock or laminate one would be about 3/4" thick if memory serves....See MoreJosh Lardinois
