Anybody making anything for Boss's Day?

I'm making some World Peace cookies as a token thanks to my boss. Just got the dough in the fridge so I can bake thme tonight. Every time I make them, I always think "why don't I make these more often?" Easy and good!

My grandson turned 4 in April. He started the NT exactly as you described around 3. He seemed to have more episodes when he spent the night at our house than he did at his own. One thing I noticed (since I had him sleep in my bed with me and I am a light sleeper) he always started out by snuffling his nose as if he couldn't get air, then the thrashing, then the screaming. I was convinced it was a breathing issue, although Oprah had an entire show on it and it is supposedly just a brain thing. They said on the show that you should not try to wake them up, just keep them from hurting themselves and wait it out. They don't remember it and it is NOT from a nightmare. It occurs in the stage when you are not yet dreaming. I understand how scary it is when it happens but my grandson seems to have outgrown it too. I remember thinking if I didn't know he had a good life i would think he was being abused or something. He just spent the night lately and he snuffled and thrashed a few times but never did the whole screaming thing. His mother (my daughter) has always been a sleep walker and talker. We had a heck of a time waking her up sometimes. (another bizarre thing on Oprah that day, was Sleep Eaters! People actually get up , raid the kitchen and have no memory of it-not kidding-they filmed them and they were mortified) Hang in there, but you might have a while to put up with it.

Kat, thanks! Oilskin is too heavy and too bulky--the slicker looks good, but I wonder how long it is. It doesn't look TOO short. I saw something labeled "waterproof" at L.L.Bean, but I've hadn't seen that Lands End one yet. I'll have to look into that. All the REI ones are jackets. None of them are knee length. No, wait, I see a very few. Who in the world wants a waterproof jacket that ends at the waist? Eww! a wet butt? I can't make the Eddie Bauer link work, but their raingear things are either water repellant or hip length.

bob_cville, I'm happy to post the recipe. It came from the New York Times in 2009. Fiery Sweet Potatoes Time: About 2 hours 5 pounds sweet potatoes 1 cup coconut milk 1 tablespoon Thai red curry paste 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 4 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 teaspoon salt. 1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake potatoes on a baking sheet until very soft, about 1 hour. When cool enough to handle, peel and mash. 2. In a small saucepan, heat coconut milk with curry paste over low heat. Mix coconut milk mixture, half the sugar, half the butter, and salt into potatoes. Keep warm until ready to serve, or cover and refrigerate up to two days. 3. At least 30 minutes before serving, heat oven to 425 degrees. Put potatoes in a baking dish, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover potatoes, dot with remaining butter and sugar and broil until brown and crusty on top, checking often to prevent scorching. Yield: 10 to 12 servings. Notes: I've made this, the full 5lbs, following the recipe up through step 2. I've frozen it in portions at this stage. If I'm serving it to guests, I'll finish it with the butter and brown sugar because it makes a prettier presentation. If it's just for DH and me, I skip this. It's good enough as is. Cheryl

I'll be making shortbread for Chrystal, she loves the stuff. I'm thinking some pecan shortbread and maybe some cappuccino shortbread.

Her favorite breakfast is coffee and cookies. Now you see why we get along so well.

Maybe I'll make the World Peace cookies for the rest of the office.

That cappucino shortbread sounds wonderful Annie. And in a perfect world where I could eat anything I wanted without gaining a pound, coffee and cookies for breakfast would be at the top of my list!

Just got the World Peace cookies out of the oven. I think I underbaked the first batch-they didn't spread out too much, but the second batch looks perfect. Hopefully both batches will taste good!

Yes, I opened a can of tuna in oil. Oh, did I forget to mention my boss is a calico cat? Definition of boss: the one in charge, the one to whom you answer, the one who expresses approval/disapproval of your abilities. My boss purrs!

Since I tolerate my boss, no I am not making anything. But i may have to make the cookies for the rest of the office.

OK, I caved in. I had to taste the shortbread, just to be sure it was....um.....OK. Yeah, that's it. It was pretty darned good, but I think the dark chocolate on top had something to do with it.

Just because, I also made a dozen blueberry muffins for the office for breakfast, because I am the boss for the clerical staff and they deserve it for putting up with me the last couple of months!

This is the first I've heard of it. My boss is in New York this week (but she called me six times yesterday) and won't be back until Friday. Last week she was in London. If I were to make anything for her, it would be a card.

I didn't make anything but my secretary gave me a gift certificate for Barnes & Noble. Wasn't that nice? Maybe I'll buy a cookbook.

I never heard of it, either, until this thread. My boss is doing good to get some cookies on his Birthday and Christmas. One Christmas time he cut everyone's hours so much, I decided that was gift enough for him, so I didn't make anything for him. He then told me that even though no one gave him anything for Christmas, he was going to give us Christmas as a paid day off. He's so generous, isn't he?

I'm the boss. I'm also the secretary, accounts payable, the janitor, the receptionist, IT department, delivery girl, sales staff, and creative guru. But I did put a little Kahlua in my morning coffee.
