Well, my first reaction to the pix where they are now, is that the pillows are 'fighting' with the one on the bottom, and the lights with the one on top. You need to decide what to feature - the pix or the accessories. Moving the pix elsewhere would be a good idea, but at least over the sofa you will want something else... how about a mirror? How about scrapping the pillows (there) and just using (if you feel the need) small rolls which would not be in the picture's 'face' so much? The tapestry too looks nice, but needs more attention, e.g. either one of those proper little lights meant to go above a picture and angle right on to it? Or else move it to a wall where it'll be appreciated and not just 'muzak'.

Yes -- try the painting in the dining room! The dark frame would work well with the color of the wood in the buffet! :)

I remember this post not too long ago, and since you are back, then you are definately not comfortable. I like the colors in the picture, have you thought about another frame? Lighter in color, not necessarily wood? Maybe painting the frame yourself to another color? That might change the whole feel for you. Also, it seems too high over the sofa. Lower it so that it is 6" above the sofa. As for the tapestry, can you move the lamps out a little? They look lined up with the edges of the tapestry from here. Moving them out will create a better view of the tapestry.

I love the tapestry in there, and think it goes so well with your lighting fixtures : )

I like the tapestry alot, but it looks too tall for the dining room. I think you might have the same issue in the living room but can't tell from the photo.

I also do not like the painting. It is not as sophisticated as the pillows nor the sofa. If you don't like it in the living room odds are you won't like it in the dining room.

I think the issue is not so much the painting, but the frame. It does not go with the painting or your furniture. Change the frame and then decide. I'd prefer to see a mirror behind those lovely buffet lamps than the tapestry. The tapestry could hang on a wall all by itself where there is nothing below.

I took some quick pics with my not so good camera - they are blurry. I am realizing that home pics look best without the flash but I am not steady enough to take a decent pic. But, the flash really washes out all of the colors....

Here is sideboard that I could possibly put plate collection above then put smaller painting where the plate collection is currently. OTHER OPTION - I have some wonderful professional photos of my DS - simliar to the one in my foyer - he is about 6 standing outside by a wrought iron gate (of course, I think it is gorgamous :) but I don't want to overwhelm my house with his photos. I would want a nice size photo of that picture with a gorgeous frame.

Finally, here is the plate collection. I think Les mentioned before it was just kinda floating...it is. This photo is not a true representation of the colors (with flash) I could replace with small oil or even the photo of my son that I want.

Here are a few more. A plain antiqued gilt, an ebony, a dark brown, and another dark brown (reminds me of hunt country, similar to a horse/pony pic near the new chair in your lr).

I love all the different looks, but the darker ones may be too dark. Kinda like "back at square one"! I love the color of the first "fabulous" one you did.

I like the painting in the DR. I like how it looks in the background of your son's painting in the foyer.

I also like the mirror over the sofa. I think the plates look ok, maybe just adjust them so they're a tad closer together. I'd put the photo of your son over the side table in the LR.

Those just might work somewhere else. The plain gold one is, ok, but doesn't seem to really do that much for the painting. Definitely the first :)

What I notice with this is to be careful with the edge of the frame -- something too straight reads like a big block, even when I make it a big narrower, whereas the endulating edges look great. Last pic is a bit narrower.

It's large, but without the whole room area visible, maybe not too much. I think something to its right over the side table for balance.

What a difference a frame makes! Maybe some plates on the sides? Or a bracket/sconce thingy with a plate on each side? Like the one she has in the middle of her plate display. Maybe?

An amazing difference!! The style of the other was, uh, is, just off for the room.

The frame does make a huge difference, but I must vote for the mirror over the sofa. It looks wonderful!

I agree the more rectangular shape of the mirror is nicer over the sofa, though it feels a bit large. I'd definitely reframe the painting though :) It looks gawgeous!!

Here ya go, kmcg! I think these plates are a bit too similar to the pillows, and maybe take away from them, but they're what I have on hand : ) The colors are good though, I think. I like it very much, but need to see the whole area.

Looking good squirrel! I agree, the plates are too similar and read a little busy with the pattern on the pillows. The same can be done if she puts the mirror there. Brackets on the sides and a small rectangular platter/picture or scrolly iron/resin thing over the mirror. Creating an arc from one bracket up and over to the other. I'm not crazy about the picture in the DR. It seems to take over the room. Scrolling back up, I see that we are having a grand 'ole time with her room, lol! Johnatemp, come back!

My recommendation is to find a picture that you love and put it over the sofa.

I have a painting of a vase of flowers (a print) over my sofa that I simply love and enjoy looking at over and over, but a pastoral scene would bore me to tears.

The ornate mirror looks great there.

By the way, next time you want to take pics in low light, use a tripod or rest your arm on something - I've used a stepladder as an arm rest.

Regarding the mirror over the settee: what about antique sconces on each side?? I could even do "dummy" boxes around the mirror and sconces with 1-1.5" trim. Carried over thru-out the whole room.

A couple of antique sconces sounds great for the lr! Do you mean reframing the painting and putting it in the original location you'd bought it for?? I was wondering the same thing, except that maybe it would be too similar to the mirror -- although it's done allll-the-time!! and looks great : )

Probably freakin' everyone out with the humoungous painting over the buffet. Didn't realize just how big this painting is. I think I actually made it a little smaller than rl over the sofa in the virtual. I like it over the buffet though! Unless it feels like it's looming over when you're in there, lol. Have been noticing designers using way over-scale pictures like this, and I reallly like it.

Hey, it's ALL in the details! I keep bouncing back and forth between these two threads and then Johnatemp threw in a picture of her DR on Val's thread...MY HEAD IS SPINNING!!!

I really love the tapestry in the dining room. It is just lovely,you have done an outstanding job. I oohed and ahhed when you first posted that it was finished. I love the mirror over the sofa- I think it's curves complement the back of the sofa. I do like the frame Squirrel PSed for you, but can you find another room for the painting- in your own house(too funny Squirrel) Sue
