Oil-based white paint yellowed in days -- need replacement
Comments (10)If it yellowed literally within days (under a week) then it was not the "oil paints yellow over time" issue, but something else. Was the new wood primed with the right primer? I painted my kitchen soffit trims with Ben Moore Dulamel (or Satin Impervo; oil) in 2006 and the ceiling an eggshell latex both mixed in the exact same color, and the oil has not yet yellowed to the point you could see a difference in a side-by-side comparison, and it's 8 years in to my "test". Up at the ceiling line it never sees direct sun to help keep it lighter (UV light negates the yellowing process) So within days? seriously, that is some other deal going on. Comments (18)Hi, I have painted by house with several BM colors. I actually have Monroe Bisque, Standish White, Pittsfield Buff, and Shelburne Buff. I have low ceilings, natural oak floors, with white trim. I have furniture of all colors. Of all the colors I used Shelburne buff seems to have the least amount of green. I personally think Pittsfield Buff has a lot of gold. The color that everyone loves believe or not is Monroe Bisque. I was not sold with any of these colors until I put them up as samples. One of the reason that these colors have some green is it tends to give these colors more versatility. For me I didnt want a creamy yellow, because I didnt want my rust colored furniture to look too red....See MoreFarrow & Ball color for bedroom -pls help me fix my mistake
Comments (13)Palimpsest - will the pinkish hues work well with the dark beams? DD has never been into pink.. Any other pale neutrals that can work with the beams? I used pale powder on the ceilings in the master bedroom with theresa's green on the walls. Like it there as the room is facing east and the color just seems to morph with the light. Abundantblessings - I will check out cabbage white and borrowed light.. From the website, I too prefer borrowed light. Liriodendron- frankly when I was uploading the picture, I too was surprised at the amber color.. But IRL it feels loud, hot and brash. The painter knew I was planning to change the color so he was not very careful during staining:( The louvred doors are just primed and need to be panted. I was planning to paint it the same color as the walls in eggshell finish. That way, I hope it will just blend in. The ceiling currently is BM cream in regal select matte. I know what you are saying about the ceiling colors. In the other bedroom that is similar to DD's room, I painted the walls in BM HC-1 Castelton Mist and ceiling in HC-3 Greenmount Silk. They work well with the dark wood beams. F&B is expensive but they seem to give a matte appearance similar to lime wash which is the traditional finish on the adobe bricks. FB actually makes an excellent excellent lime wash but they do not sell it in North America. The other lime wash options I have tried did not work well.. These walls had been painted many times before, so I am OK with painting it....See MoreTake the Yellow out of BM White Dove wall paint?!
Comments (94)WD is not my favorite white, but many do love it. First you need to test some whites with your other finishes - floor/counter and backsplash. You also need to consider the trim color that you are using in the rest of your house. Do you have white trim? What color is the current trim color? Whites often do not play well with other whites. When you have picked the color have to have a sample painted with whatever paint the cabinet painter is using. Their color matches are not always perfect, so better to find out before they paint all your cabinets. Many people who have used White Dove have re-painted with Simply White. It still has some yellow undertones, but never looks dingy. WD can go dingy. Personally, my favorite is a color match that BM stores mix for me. Match of Devine Color™ V0101W Icing. The difference between Simply White and Icing is that Icing leans just a bit more toward the orange yellow then the green yellows. I sometimes detect a touch of green (Chartreuse) in Simply White. Computers do a lousy job depicting whites, but this is an analysis of several of the whites that were discussed in this chain. The LCH designations are L - how light the color is, C - Chroma - how colorful or gray the color is and H- Hue - where the color falls on the color wheel. Yellow range is 72-105 Yellow green is 105-130 As you go down in chroma and the colors get closer to gray we see it as a blue or cool undertone (Chantilly Lace, Decorators White)...See More- 11 years ago
