Satin Nickel and Stainless next to each other?

Installed a new Grohe Satin nickel finish pulldown faucet last week, love it! Unfortunately, Grohe does not make a complimenting cold water tap to match. I found a Newport Brass spout which is fairly close in design, and would be acceptable, but opened the box to see it is Stainless, not Satin Nickel. My dealer says I can return it, but what would you do?Am I being too critical? I like the faucet, but to me it just looks like a mistake with the two different finishes. As the sayaing goes, close, but no cigar...All I want is a water filler in a more traditional design, but can't seem to find one in Satin Nickel.

In polished form, mirror stainless and polished nickel look fairly close. Brushed I think the difference is greater.

How 'bout posting pics?

Well, with the strong sun backlight in this photo, it's hard to discern much difference. The stainless is lighter, and more "silver", while the nickel is warmer and softer looking...

It isn't 'Nickel' at all. It is 'Stainless Steel'. I know b/c I was trying to figure out finishes too for the faucet, soap dispenser and cabinet hardware and found out Kohler is one of the only companies that makes a 'Stainless Steel' kitchen faucet b/c people with stainless steel sinks complained that the nickel looked too yellow in comparison to the sink. That being said, yes, stainless is a little more blue and perhaps colder than nickel, but hardly anyone can see the difference when comparing small items like a faucet, soap dispenser or hardware. As far as the soap dispenser, what you are comparing is the finish of either 'satin' or 'brushed' in the nickel material. It is a personal preference - I like brushed and think satin looks like a cheap spray-on finish but I know people who don't like the brushed finish and prefer satin. The satin might be closer to the faucet photo you linked to but I think either would be fine. HTH.

"brushed nickel in ... on one of these posts someone said that finish is plated" I've mentioned "plated". Almost all / options / colors / finishes / are plated. Underneath the plating is something solid. e.g. solid brass (hardware like handles) or a brass tube (the faucet body) or a strong plastic (the faucet's handspray). I used to find it confusing to read "all brass" and "chrome" in the same description. Not any more. Chrome is plated and always has been. For some people, it's considered such basic simple knowledge that it doesn't need to be stated. For some reason, it was not part of my general education and upbringing. At this time I have mixed impressions on the quality. The faucets appear to be brass and the guts looked very solid and heavy. On the other hand, I replaced one kitchen faucet almost a year ago with the Melrose model and, due to carelessness on my part, managed to cut the pullout handle with a too-sharp knife (don't ask LOL). The metal shell on the handle was very thin and easily cut through. After several months of exposure to water, the handle seems to be delaminating (my best descriptive term). I have ordered a replacement spray handle, which should fix the problem. I haven't had any trouble with any of the other faucets (5 bath sinks, 1 tub, numerous towel bars and rings, robe hooks). The Anu has only been in place a few weeks.

Typo on the grades I listed, 302 not 392. My personal opinion on SS: -refrigerator/microwave:doesn't matter, limited chemicals in contact -range: probably doesn't matter; more chemicals employed in keeping clean -dishwasher/washer/dryer: presence of bleach and detergent makes better grades a plus for long term ease of retaining appearance; not sure it matters for all brands since the internal mechanicals of select brands will be shot long before the exterior finish is compromised; in commercial versions 201, 301, 302, and 304 dominate; 316 had in roads on commercial dishwashers 20-25 yrs ago

The styles are fantastic together. When I first installed my filtered water faucet I was sure I'd ruined my kitchen. Now I'd never notice it's there. The slightly different finish will be fine.

I agree they are fine together and on a stainless steel sink even better not sure what sink you have .

If it bothers you now it will bother you the more you look at it- and a faucet should last many years. Keep searching, you will find something. Do the two faucets need to have the same silhouette? Maybe the finish is more important.

Agreeing more with breezy and Laura, after looking at them at night, and agonizing, my wife says "what, you want it perfect?" (we've been married 30 years, so this was an inside joke rhetorical question:) I think Laura has it, the finish will be more important than the silhouette... Now help me find a satin nickel water filler that at least is not ultra modern... I even called my local metal refinisher to see if they could plate it, and he said he could have if it was any other material but stainless :(

They look fine together to me! You aren't going to regularly get right up in front of them at eye level at 6" away in direct sunlight like you've done in that picture. I sure wouldn't notice the difference in normal day to day usage, as from a couple of feet away they look pretty much identical. But it's a personal call and everyone's tolerances vary.

Maybe the bigger question is why doesn't Grohe make a coordinating water filler to go with this faucet??!!

The Kohler Wellspring is similar in design to the Newport. The main difference is the base - it doesn't have the curved body.

It comes in brushed nickel, which is close to, if not the same, as satin nickel.

No, it's not identical. If you want identical, I suggest looking for a different faucet - one that has a coordinating filtered water faucet.

Look what I found today! At my local plumbing supply no less, and it was in stock on the shelf! Not as elegant as the Newport, but in the right finish, and I saved over $200! Happy camper :)

ctycdm, which brand did you find for the water filter? It looks really nice. I am having the same problem with matching. I haven't bought a faucet yet since I cannot find a water filter to match.

Well maybe it's my monitor but the finishes look about as similar as the ones in the first pic to me. But the $200 savings is the clincher -- great find!! :-)

Peke, the brand is Kingston Brass... Taggie yeah, at night with the lighting, it's not such a perfect match... the guy at the plumbing supply tells me the Newport Brass is available in 27 finishes, and one of them is satin nickel, maybe there's still hope, ...but the fact that I could buy 8 of these for the price of the Newport is something to think about ;)
