Well, had she not won I sure would love to see the ones that beat her. Those are fabulous! Congrats to her. I know it must have taken a lot of hard work to learn how to do those and then to do them.

Having dabbled in Cake Decorating as a hobby I can truthfully say that these are unbelievable and she deserves first prize!!!

gillian when you mentioned these last night I could hardly wait to see them. I knew they were going to be pretty, but I have to tell you these are way above and beyond what I had expected. They are awesome. I truly am at a loss for words to tell you how impressed I am. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures with us.

Thank you all-- I will try answer some of the questions my daughter does the cake making/decorating just as a hobby she is not allowed to have a business from her home (health dept.rules in AL). The contest was for cake decorating so she used "dummy cakes" made from styrofoam forms and covered them with Fondant and made the flowers from butter cream,she does put alot of thought into them and she enjoys it all, last year she won in the novice class so this year the wins were in the Advanced and next year she will be in the Professional class. I think she just likes to compete, she has degrees in radiology and worked in a hospital until 3yrs ago and just burned out plus her father died, cake making was the last thing I thought she would get into. I have quilt making as a hobby and hate cooking, she cannot sewing but likes cooking so our hobbies do not clash. Somebody ask if I have anymore pictures she has a big folder of every cake she has made I can get more if you like. I will try answer any questions you have after I have asked her the question LOL.I will show her all your replies.

In this area, it used to be that women could bake pies at home and bring them to the church, but now they must be baked at the church.

If churches in your area are cleared by the health department, could she make a deal with a church to do her baking there?

Could she decorate elsewhere?

Actually, as those are styrofoam foundation, why would health regulations apply?

Those are beautiful cakes! I took a couple of Wiltons cake decorating classes so I can appreciate how much talent and work went into those cakes. Stunning!

I've got the Extreme Cake Challenge rerun on FoodTV right now... Duff and cohorts from Charm City Cakes are judges so fireworks and "over the top" are the goal. Not my favorite type of cake construction, although I appreciate the talent and techniques required.

I really love to watch the cake challenges of more delicate designs as your daughter has fabulously done with these two cakes.

Her Teapot presentation reminds me of one FoodTV cake challenge where participants had to make cakes based on a china pattern. I can almost see the stitched edging on that linen napkin! Simply amazing.

She should be proud of her art as her mother surely is. What talent, perseverance and patience.
