Master bedroom help, please?

AFter many years we are finally getting new bedroom furniture! Hooray!

Now to redecorate. Found a chocolate brown tone on tone Cal King duvet on line since stores around here don't carry that size. Woodwork is painted white. Thinking of choc brown walls and trying to find a robin's egg blue to accent room...drapes, pillows, throw on bed. The problem is finding the accent bedding and drapes! Any suggestions of where to find modern or contemporary bedding pieces?

Check out the JC Penny's site. Many of their draperies co-ordinate w/bedding, pillows, etc. Love the color combo! ;o)

Thanks for the link...no luck at JC Penny's, Burlington, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond or Kohl's. Would really like to find the robin's egg blue coverlet to use as a blanket and the same color throw for the end of the bed. Would really like some print with the choc/blue to lay cross the bottom of the bed but haven't had much luck with that or curtain panels. Have been looking at things on line but haven't found the right color. This driving me crazy!

We are building this plan, and both DH wanted an upstairs master suite, which this plan delivers. However, I'm worried arranging furniture might be awkward with the room size and the amount of doors. I was hoping to incorporate a sitting area with book shelves, and to have the option of moving bed to a different wall in future. We don't have furniture that we'd bring to this new bedroom, so there are lots of possibilities with this blank canvas. I had thought about moving the closet entry to the bathroom to reduce the number of doors. The wall of windows in bedroom faces East for a great view of property and sunrises, and we will have privacy to the West in the bathroom that we don't need blinds on window over bath tub. (Property is 160 acres, no neighbours for miles) Here is a picture of someone else's bedroom built on this plan. I don't know if it's their furniture, color combo's, or the scale of the windows, but it just wasn't what i was envisioning when I saw the plan on paper. It doesn't feel right to me. Any suggestions from GW would be so much appreciated. Thanks!

I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

@designinteriorsouth Please see my responses following your questions. 1. Your bedside tables are just floating and the bed is completely overpowering them. Add your heavy high boy dresser and it will really accentuate this fact. Are these new? Can they be returned and replaced? You need more solid bedside tables. -- Sadly, the only thing that I can return is the dresser. It is not as high as it appears in the photo (if that helps) 38” W x 46” H. I was truly in love with the nightstands and the bed. The nightstands arrived prior to the bed and once the bed was put in place, I too felt that. The wall sconces did help balance it out a bit. Do you have any suggestions if we were to keep these, because I am not able to part ways with them. 2. Run the wires to your sconces tightly down the wall or horizontally and then down behind the head board. Any exposed wire should be taught and then paint it the color of the wall. -- Good point. Another comment mentions the same. :) I've been searching for a brass cord cover, but will simply paint the cord of this one as you suggest. 3. Anchor the foot of your bed with a bench or two stools. -- I was going to definitely do that, but do you think there is enough carpet space? 4. Keep your draperies neutral and just get ones with darkening lining. Your sheers are too short. -- Neutral as in beige/grey linen neutral enough? 5. I am finding your rug choice with the fabric on your bed and then your wall color all don't relate to each other. You have 3 separate elements here. Were they all chosen in conjunction together? I would bring in a lot of texture.-- Yes, sadly I chose all in conjunction together. I must have horrible taste :P.

Your second bedroom layout is so much better because you'll have windows on 2 walls in the bedroom. However your closet is barely a walk in with it only being 4'6" wide. Very tight. Also clothes can't turn corners. The toilet room doesn't need 8' in length. Again poor design. Your shower doesn't need to be 6'. If you make it 5' and then add 1' to the closet, that would be a better use of space. Actually Marks layout is better except he has a thing against toilet rooms. I'd switch the shower and tub and then enclose the toilet in his version with the wall of the shower being solid. (Glass walls look good but are a huge pain to clean.) As for your whole house plan, there is so much that could be improved. Your kitchen with the dog leg island and the second island is awful. Not bad. AWFUL! As in really poor design and going to be a real PITA to cook in. Also, these plans were custom drawn by an architect, just to put everyone's mind at ease. I gave him the layout though, so you can't blame him for the layout, only for not correcting my ill-conceived ideas. Well it's obvious he wasn't too good in the fact he wasn't willing to let you know why the design was bad. A good architect would have suggested other ways to make the design better and helped you to see why this was not such a good design.

Try the Company Store. They have a beautiful chocolate and blue duvet cover, but I know you said you already have that. Maybe they have accessory pieces. Not sure if it's the right blue, but boy is it gorgeous.

Also, expensive but yummy, is Soft Surroundings. And they have good sales as well as online coupons sometimes.

Same for Garnet Hill, but I saw they have a throw that might be the right color...don't know your budget.

This is kind of ?? and would suit some people.

Also, has anyone shopped this site? It seems to be all over the place in terms of quality/and aesthetics. Some pretty good, some not so much. But lots of linens.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I not only found a great coverlet but I also found a comforter set with sheets and shams that are perfect and that I really like. Now to figure out how to layer them all. My walls will be choc brown and the duvet is choc brown. Do you think I can fold this blue comforter over the brown duvet to make the bed 'pop' against the dark walls?

While not a true robin's egg blue, Restoration Hardware is having a sale on their silk quilts. One is in a color called eucalyptus and has brown on its tufted buttons.

Oh...the tufted silk quilt is beautiful! It isn't availale anymore in the color and size that I need though. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
