Bella - your daughter's room is so pretty! Does she like having a princess room? I would love to replace the ceiling fan in my DD's room with a chandy, but we do use the fan during the hot summer nights. Maybe I could find a pretty antique looking desk fan instead. Mitch - I have no idea who to call for an estimate. We have a finish carpenter that we're going to use for trim and he comes with great references, but I'm not sure if finish carpenters actually build these types of cabinets/shelving. I'm uncomfortable just calling someone blind, since I had an unpleasant experience having a cabinet made (doors aren't flush, don't close properly, etc.) I was hoping it wouldn't cost more than $1500 or so, since they'd stay with the house and we've invested too much money already on a house that we intend to resell w/in 5 or 6 years! I guess I could recoup some $$ by selling her antique furniture and it would save so much space though. I really want to move her play kitchen and store out of my living room and into her own room! If anyone has any references in the SoCal area, I'd appreciate the info!

that's a huge room but your items and placement are doing no favors for you. do you really need those two dressers because it's screwing up the bed area. any idea what you like? have you looked at all of the bedrooms here on Houzz to get some ideas? what I would do is center the bed on that wall and get two nightstands. Like this. you have no patterns in your room. trade out your solid drapes for something like this if you like the blue/white theme. you have enough room for a bench at the foot of the bed too. move that other dresser out of the room. For the large nook area, get a 6' or longer dresser to place there. a longer dresser means you don't need those two white ones. I assume you have a decent walk in closet? If any wall needs an accent color, it's the wall behind your bed. A nice deep navy would look great. if painting isn't your thing, try something on the wall like they've done here matching nightstands, lamps, a bench or the two ottomans, a nice white comforter, matching rug,,,, That is the focal point when you enter the room. Make it look nice! instead of that chair sitting out in no mans land, you have enough room for a low back sofa and ottoman at the foot of your bed. much better looking and will eat up some of that ginormous space. bring in a natural wood dresser like this vintage walnut piece for the nook. it will lend some warmth to the area. They made them long back then, so you can find something that will fit that area. hang some art and a mirror on the wall behind it. check craigslist or vintage furniture stores to find something like this or, if you want a sitting area, put a small sofa and an end table for a little sitting/reading nook. do you watch tv? media console and a large tv that can swing outward is another option. The little vanity is fine, but hang some artwork on the wall next to it, or a potted plant or something! the room is void of any decoration. (and please replace the white chair w/the proper vanity stool. most of those had stools at the time. And they look really nice painted what's the blue chair facing? is there a tv or something? do you sit there? might be better if you moved that. honestly, you have so many options it's mind boggling.

Yes Helen that is the goal I am going for just a separate comfy living space that I can relax in that isn’t always in the eye of people who walk into my house. On our first floor we do have a separate office space for my husband as he works from home every day but on the occasion I do work from home it would be nice to work somewhere that isn’t my kitchen island or my dining table but since I don’t do it often I don’t need a dedicated office of my own, just a small desk in this space would work fine. Our main floor has: Living Room/Dining Combo Kitchen Office Bathroom Guest room (the guest room has a pullout couch in it with a tv). We entertain a lot during the holidays so we didn’t want this to strictly be a guest room so we could use it for extra entertaining space. I also have young nieces and nephews so it doubles as a guest room when they sleep over We also have a basement that is half workroom/laundry and the other side is finished which I have yet to do anything with besides storage. I don’t really want this space to be another guest room - I like the separation when guests stay over since there is another bathroom on the first floor and I have a room dedicated for guests already. I do like your idea of a coffee maker/mini fridge. Perhaps I could add a small bistro table with two chairs...

Sash, we need more info from you to help you with this one. Please take a picture from the doorway to bedroom & from doorway of master bath looking into bedroom. Also please post a floor plan of bedroom that gives measurements of each wall, window & doorway . We need to know the entire room measurements. Hopefully there will be a way to use at least one of your nightstands that you’re wisely replacing. It looks like your existing nightstands are part of your bedroom set. We also need to know the size of that one dresser shown in a picture.
