Trying to make sense of BM grays and greens---help!
Comments (11)Thanks---yep, we've played with their site, which is definitely very cool. Found unfortunately that it's not a great representation of the actual colors with the monitor oddities, even after adjusting the calibration, though. Ah, well. I got stuck because I like the gray-green combos fine on screen, but when we started pulling the chips they didn't look at all the same...argh! The guy at our local BM dealer said the same about the historical colors, interestingly---he thinks they're richer. We like a couple of the HC grays (Edgecomb + Stonington) but haven't had much luck with greens there---they seem more muted. (So far the front runners there are Pear Green, Wales Green, and maybe Potpourri Green from the Color Preview line.)...See MoreColor match or not for switches, switchplates etc.
Comments (8)In terms of complexity, your husband is kinda correct on that. But it is nice to make the utilities like switches and receptacles blend in as much as possible, at least in my opinion. But in my house this has lead to Lutron Black, Lutron Palladium, Lutron off-white, two push button switches, and matching Lutron covers, back painted glass covers, custom plated metal covers, mirrored covers etc, ad nauseum. The next owner is going to have his hands full if he wants to change the paint colors. I usually don't paint the plug itself or the switch itself but if I want the switch to blend in best I use the small toggle not the big Lutron style, and I might change the plug from white to ivory to grey to brown or black depending upon the wall color. There are a couple of companies who make completely concealable switches and receptacles (Imagine a template to cut out the switchplate in wood, granite, or cover it in plaster with just the actual slots for the plug to go in, for example--and all completely flush with the wall surface. There are "mounting depth jigs" and all kinds of tools involved). Extremely expensive as you can imagine with parts and labor in the hundreds for Each outlet or switch. Minimalists have to make a lot of money....See MoreHelp decide colors for house makeover. Painters coming NEXT week!
Comments (54)Please do not apologize for all the posts parker_31! They are so helpful!!! Of the paint samples I tried on poster board, we like SW Oyster Bay and Magnetic Gray the best --- but I'm not sure if either are exactly right. I see what you, raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio, are saying about the trim not necessarily being white because it's not very prominent. However, that is one thing we originally thought made our house more interesting :) since we don't have brick or stone. If we go with a more monotone scheme, I definitely like going lighter with trim... Oh man, all these suggestions are great! Still think I might keep the white triangle which is a big switch for me (I just don't know!) :)...See MoreHELP with choosing grey cabinet color
Comments (12)That is a lot of busy pattern, and a lot of different colors in your elements! I would consider NOT introducing another color. It looks like there is a pale blue-gray in your backsplash - I would match that. Otherwise, a slightly tinted white that works with the wall paint, stone and counter would be a good choice (there are whites with a warm gray undertone - look for one of those to sample)....See MoreFaron79
