ChapStick vs Lip Gloss

Been hooked on ChapStick for years, but I'm finding I prefer Lip Gloss keeps my lips moistier than ChapStick.

Am I the only one?

Chap Stick isn't very good. I like CarMex.

ChapStick and most of the other commercial brands are self-perpetuating because one or more of their ingredients dries out the lips. Keeps people buying more, I guess.

I buy mine at the health food store. No petroleum products.

Lenore, who is installing the granite slab shower? Start there and make your priority be hiring a VERY experienced tile professional - one you have vetted carefully to insure that their qualifications meet your design requirements and product selections. Stone slab installations are not for the B team, and especially in a wet area. Can it be done? Yes, depending upon the structure over which a solid surface stone is installed and the methods used. We install solid surface shower walls regularly, but from an empty cavity which we build to meet all specific design and installation specifications, including the pan. A solid stone slab cannot be supported by the pan (it is not meant to support a slab wall). A slab wall is pinned and tied so it is self supported, not supported by a pan. This is a very complex installation. A LOT to consider. As one example, the thickness of your slab? 2cm. 3cm? (effects the weight load on the space). And I could go on. After you have carefully vetted the qualified tile contractor, have this conversation with them. If you question or want to clarify their recommendations, check back or seek professional advice from other qualified sources. Please consult with a professional onsite. Good luck with your project.

CHAP-STICK ADDICTS: Please consider what I've read for years......that Chap-Stick really is addictive, and the reason is that its ingredients keep lips dry. To break the addiction, find a non-petroleum product at the health food store or natural foods section of the supermarket.

Whew! I'm glad this thread got back on track. There is a lot of helpful info here. I have acquired a couple of samples of both. I really, really, like the look of the Virginia Mist (not the one that is also called Jet Mist) honed, but the granite place is telling me it will definitely stain in its honed version and suggested leathered, which I don't love. "ngcurt" mentioned "antiqued" Virginia Mist. I have never heard of antiqued. What is that? I have played with the samples of soapstone from Alberene and went to the quarry to choose a slab, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I can definitely scratch it all up with my fingernail and dent the end with a pot easily. However, I have yet to permanently stain it with anything acidic while ketchup and lemon juice for 30 min barely etched the granite surfaces. I left marks all over the granite with a key and have yet to get them off, even with suggested acetone... Oil definitely sits on the soapstone, but I haven't tried Simple Green as "athome inva" mentioned. Never thought of that. It seems like an easy solution. The quarry said to use denatured alcohol. Didn't happen to have that around. I'm surprised yours darkened so quickly. I think I would like that. But Alberene had a piece in their office that was used to create a "cabinet" and its top. The unoiled cabinet was still very light while the waxed top was very dark. I wonder if they are now quarrying a different vein than what you have? It is all quite beautiful. After speaking to the granite fabricator, I am now a bit more nervous about trying the granite than the soapstone because I have no idea how I would remove stains from granite. I had thought it was pretty indestructible. "Sabrina Alfa Interiors"--Are you saying that the drawback to black honed granite is really just the fingerprints? I think I could live with fingerprints as long as the stone and the finish itself is not actually damaged. Also, there is the leathered version of AB that really doesn't show anything. It looks like cheap Formica, but it seems to be extremely durable. The black is beautiful. Any thoughts? For that matter, there is a leathered "Virginia Mist," too. Also looks like cheap Formica, but it would be durable and would probably hide a lot. Thank you guys so much for all the input. Of course, I will still accept more of it. :) It seems there are pros and cons to both, so I almost feel like flipping a coin or choosing based on price.

Does this tell you anything? lol The basket is 5" tall.. I'm not about to dump them all out to count, but I should dump them out fairly soon to cull. I know there's some dark shades on the bottom that I'm not likely to wear again. Marilyn, I'm very familiar with the sort of shade you prefer, as it's one of my favorites too--although my preference might lean more toward the brown than yours. If you think of it, check out L'Oreal's "Mica." I was surprised to see it recently (at Walmart) as I remember wearing it years ago. I still like it a lot. Also see if you like Maybelline's "On the Mauve" or the lighter "Pink Quartz." And Clinique's "Pink Bamboo."

I like the more natural ones too...then if I want I put gloss on top of that.

Nothing seems to really work for me. I even tried Olive Oil that someone recommended.

I don't care for chap stick. I usually don't wear anything.

I like Arizona-Sun, Lip-Kist. It has sun block in it too. SPF 15.

I usually buy Chapstick brand. Lately I am loving a new brand called LypSyl. The original and Honey Rose are THE BEST!!

I prefer lip gloss. Even regular lipstick will moisturize your lips.

Sure as heck can't wear chap-stick as I have 3 cats!! LOL How does the old saying go? NEVER kiss a cat if ya have chap-stick on! hee hee

I am addicted to chap sticks, I have one on my keychain, several in my purse, several in the side table drawer where I watch TV, several in my desk here at home and several in my desk at work. My all time favorite to wear and smell was Redkin lip moisture lipstick, but they discontinued it. Sallys beauty supply sells some i like in different flavors, and Avons plain lip moisture is good too. I have tried them all and will use anything in a pinch. If I am out shopping or anything, and don't have something on hand for my lips, (as you can see is almost never) I will find the first store i can buy some at. Usually it happens when I am out of town, and not in my own car. Crazy huh?

I suffered for a long time with extremely chapped lips...nothing I tried helped....no more.

I was at the Dermatologist for an unrelated problem and mentioned my chapped lips to her. She said "try this" and gave me a sample of Neutrogena Hand Cream (Norwegian Formula).

It comes in a box, it's not cheap but it will last a long time...use tiny amount. I apply the cream every night, have never had a problem since. My husband's lips were cracked at the corners, it also worked for him. I use the Fragrance-Free.

It's worth a try, if it doesn't work on your lips you can always use it on your hands :-)

I haven't had a problem with chapped lips in years and seldom wear lipstick. Guess I'm lucky about something in my old age. DD has to have plenty of chapsticks on hand. I keep several brands here and there around the house so when she is visiting she can find one.

Recently I watched How It's Made and they made Burt's Bees Lip Balm. After watching that, I'm interested in trying it...but can't remember to pick it up.

I am a serious Chapstick addict. I have them everywhere. I will stop at a store if I am in the car and don't have one. I need a 12 step program. LOL!
