All the time. In the winter I like baked squash. And I eat wild rice because that is what I got alot as a kid. When I was a vendor at the Farmer's Market, getting up at 2:00am facing a 12 hour day, I often ate a pound of pork chops for breakfast. This morning it was roasted purple and white fingerling potatoes which my friend grew.

I lived alone for many years before I got married, and only had to please myself. Plus, I worked in the restaurant biz, so my hours were a bit off the mainstream.

Cereal was more often a late night (or very early morning), light meal before going to bed than it was a breakfast food. Eggs & breakfast meat of whatever kind (and other traditional breakfast foods) tended to be a lunch or brunch item.

My main meal of the day tended to be "lunner"... some time in the late afternoon or mid evening depending on the shifts I was working.

I've retained some of my dietary oddity, despite a more "normal" schedule.

Breakfast for me is often cheese melted on toasted good bread, a bowl of hearty soup, cold meats & leftover veggies, lentils & rice with various pickles or chutney, leftover pizza if we had pizza the night before, a huge bowl of cut up fresh fruit (when Summer fruits are in) with yogurt, sprinkled with grape nuts, peanut butter toast, grilled polenta with meat sauce..............

er.....just about anything I fancy, really! :D

Eating alone offers different oportunities for creativity in the kitchen.

Not only that you need to think about recipes, you also need different cookwares and tools.

For instance,
I have a one-egg egg beater.
electric whisk for one serving of whipped cream.
Meat chopper for one hamburger

I've never been a big cereal eater. Whatever is leftover from last nights dinner is fine for breakfast. Dh thinks its weird I don't necessarily have to have "breakfast food" at breakfast. I also don't think its weird to have pancakes or eggs for dinner if that's what I want. I like food! It's my favorite thing to eat! LOL!

I am a total zombie in the morning and my brain doesn't start to function until half an hour after my feet hit the floor.

Breakfast has to be exactly the same thing every day. Black coffee and cereal. My brain cells won't allow for anything creative in the a.m.

If there is any pie in the house it will certainly be eaten for breakfast. Except for that, my breakfasts are pretty conventional and I don't even consider pie to be far out. I'll sometimes have soda pop as an eye-opener. That's not strange is it?

Thanks for raising the issue. No reason I can't get out of a rut.

I confess, when alone I will eat leftover cake, chocolate if here, with coffee; fruit, dinner or leftovers, meat wrap, spaghetti or sauteed veggies with egg. I don't think that's so unusual but DH always comments so that's how I eat when alone. I wake up hungry every day so eating something handy keeps me from overeating carbs considered traditional.

I don't live alone, but my breakfast habits have never been normal.
My favorite breakfast is leftover Chinese. I will eat any leftovers for breakfast.
I do sometimes eat toast for breakfast, but cereal is a once a year thing for me. Every once in a great while, I get the taste for frosted flakes with bananas. I eat that for 3-4 days and then it disappears again.

I am making an effort to reduce the amount of carbs I consume in general and it seems that starting the day with conventional breakfast fare - cereal, toast, waffles, French toast, hot cereal, pancakes, spuds - is setting myself for immediate failure. Mind you, I love all of the above. And bacon and eggs. But I know that once I start down that path I want bread and sweets all day long. And my calorie needs seem to have diminished dramatically. At 5 feet tall, I've always had to be careful to balance calories vs. calories out. I will soon have the nutritional requirements of an air fern.

This morning, I'm having a tuna sandwich for breakfast. I was packing my husband's lunch and the tuna just smelled so tasty!

A good thing, because before I made the sandwich, I had sliced him some of my pound cake and filled a little container with my strawberry preserves for him to eat with it and those aromas had me convinced that I could have nothing but THAT for dessert!

This morning's meal was half of a red bell pepper on more baby spinach topped with chopped hard boiled egg (steamed in the shell actually) with a dressing of nonfat plain yogurt, rice vinegar, dill, s&p, and some Mrs. Dash. Coffee with milk and Splenda.

Cajun fried venison yesterday and the cold leftovers today. Over the weekend it was potatoes nuked and doused with vinegar. Tomorrow who knows... I've been craving pancakes recently.

Cold pizza with warm coke to wash it down is the best unconventional breakfast, IMHO. :)

Do cold oven roasted brussel sprouts count? And we are having breakfast ofr dinner tonight-egg souffle.

Guess I'm getting less adventuresome in my "mature" years when it comes to breakfast. I used to eat cold pizza, fried rice, leftover casserole, just about anything. Now I want eggs and toast everyday with some kind of breakfast meat now and then. Of course, I don't have that breakfast everyday. Today was a small piece of cheese toast, an orange and coffee.

I'm still on my "continental" breakfast jag when I remember to get sliced deli meats and cheeses from the store. I roll them up and put them on a plate with some good whole wheat or multigrain bread, fruit and some yogurt. I pretend I'm at a B&B somewhere in Sweden or Norway. ;o)

It is a very acceptable and common tradition for a single person to have dim sum breakfast in a restaurant.

You are most likely be seated with a few others. When that happens, you are not expected to greet the others. It's like going in an elevator in the morning (in NYC).

I don't eat breakfast type food at breakfast and never eat cereal. The first thing I do when my feet hit the floor in the AM is make myself a large glass of iced tea and take it back to bed to sip on for a while. ; ) It's so nice to be retired! When I get back up I might have a glass of buttermilk, a bowl of soup, some of Woodie's sausage flowers, a BLT, fried rice, leftover casserole, potato salad, or most anything other than what people normally think of as breakfast food.

Sometimes at night I will have a frittata. I especially like them made with lots of cream, angel hair pasta, onions, artichoke hearts and prosciutto.

I'm 5'2" and I have to be careful what I eat also. I normally just graze on tiny amounts all day instead of having three complete meals.

I don't even want to think about breakfast until I've been up for a couple of hours.
Just coffee, thank you.

Because I leave for work before my stomach is ready to eat, I have to pack breakfast.

Favorites are:

Homemade Mcmuffins (homemade canadian bacon, egg, fat free cheese on a double fiber muffin).

Plain fat free yogurt mixed with rolled oats, fruit, splenda and maybe spices or sugar free coffee creamer (yeah! try blueberry with the new (er) vanilla caramel creamer).

Whole wheat/fruit based muffins and some kind of fruit.

Most weekends I actually don't eat breakfast, I hit the ground running and realize I'm hungry around 11-ish. I'll eat a traditional "lunch" food then. Meat sandwich, soup, leftovers, whatever.

I'm a protein freak, so most of my meals are centered around some kind of protein.

Now, I'm not sayin' I don't/won't eat cold turkey or ham, cookies, pie or anything else that sounds good..ANYTIME it sounds good.
And I don't live alone! :-)

Today's morning repast was celery and Skippy Super Chunk peanut butter and a cuppa Joe. I can almost face the world. ;) I looked for a few raisins or dried cranberries for "ants on a log" but a visit to the pantry didn't reveal any.

Normally I eat a pretty normal breakfast but in the event that we order pizza and the impossible happens and there are leftovers that WILL be my breakfast. No two ways about it. Fortunately my husband finds cold, leftover pizza to be disgusting and I revel in the fact that I am under no obligation to share.

This morning it was leftover breaded and sauteed pork cheeks! Yum! The gallbladder has settled down and I can eat meat again!

You guys must have stomachs made of iron. I could not face most of what's listed here first thing in the morning. Any time after 11 a.m. -- bring it on.

Yesterday I tried Taylor Pork Roll or Taylor Ham as some call it. I had two thin slices with a scrambled egg and wheat toast. The verdict.....meh....may have to do with the slices being so thin. That stuff is expensive! I got 4 thin slices to try for $1.60something. I think I'll stick with my turkey bacon and I am going to make some turkey sausage from the recipe posted on the "ground turkey" thread.

Today was Muenster cheese on wheat toast, raspberry yogurt
and tea.

I'm a protein in the morning person too. It stays with me so much longer than cereal and milk.

I cleaned out the freezer this morning in hopes of finding a few coffee beans tucked away. Jackpot! Things were looking grim there for a moment... I was woefully eyeballing an S-bux Via packet. I can handle instant but only if I toss in the blender with ice, milk, cocoa, and sugar for a faux blended iced mocha.

While I was there I munched a few walnut halves. I bought five new-crop pounds, shelled into perfect halves, from a friend with a walnut ranch recently. I also ate a couple of hardboiled eggs and I am almost ready for a 20 mile bike ride. The weather is gorgeous.

Kate, if I want leftover pizza for breakfast, I must secure a couple of pieces and hide them before I put dinner on the table. My husband, excellent as he is in many respects, is a pizza vacuum. And, while he will considerately ask me if I have intended this or that scrap of leftover whatevertheheck for another purpose before he eats it, no such query is attempted regarding the occasional slice of pizza he wasn't quite equal to finishing the night (or the middle of the night) before.

As a pizza-for-breakfast aficionado, this has been quite a trial for me in my married life.

Ah well, we all have our crosses to bear.

This morning, I had several spoonfuls of tomato-meat sauce, a dill pickle, and a few pretzels dipped in peenie bunkle (peanut butter). Then we went for a hike and came back for a lunch of easy over eggs, strawberry pancakes topped with extra berries & maple syrup, bacon & rye toast...yeah, I know, why do I need toast with pancakes? FOR THE YOLK!!

That would be hard! Two people in one household who both worship at the 'pizza for breakfast' altar:) I guess you just have to make sure you have plenty to go around in a situation like that. I used to hide the leftover pizza under something large in the crisper until I realized no one would touch it but me. Hee hee.

Just finished up my "breakfast" this morning: House Lo Mein and a bowl of egg drop soup! Now, this is not a usual breakfast for me, but I have a fall "crud" that is going around and I can't really taste anything. Yep, when I don't feel like eating then I know I'm really sick - lol! Yesterday afternoon I thought to myself.....egg drop soup...that's the ticket and some lo mein to have something a little more solid.

Everyone's choices sound good to me! This morning I had turkey burger with barbecue sauce. I need that morning protein hit. No coffee. I will walk to the coffee place this morning to break my weekend hermit mode.

Today it was a grilled, smoked pork chop from Tollefson's stand at the Farmer's Market. Good thing I brought a little cooler with me. I saved what I could not eat and will get at least 2 more meals out of it. The thing was huge.

Since the word breakfast means to break your fast, anything goes. When tomatoes are in my favorites are a sliced tomato sandwich on good bread or fried tomatoes on same.
