I'm sorry you're by yourself. I am too... but I chose to be. I'm severely depressed and I really don't think my family needs to see me this way... It's ironic really, because if ANYBODY could bring me a smile.. it would be them... and I'm just sitting here staring at the wall.. alone. I hope your night turns out to be better than the day. JYG, I was alone today, too - I'm a bit depressed, too - it's been 19 months since my husband died and I miss him so very much!

I wish I was alone today. Someone invited me over, and asked me to make the dressing for her, which I didn't mind. I brought a pie and made a cranberry salad too. She had to go to the hospital to see someone, so I stayed there and cooked.

She was gone three hours, came home in a horrible mood and 90%lit up (drunk). It was all I could do to stay there long enough to eat a bite and then left, took a plate to the old man I look after. I really would have loved to have been home alone. I am so far behind on everything here. I'm not depressed...just tired and have no patience for alcoholics...especially those who get drunk and wallow in their misery. However, there is nothing on God's earth that would get her to make a change. :(

I guarantee, come Christmas day, I will have my excuse ready....and I am going nowhere!!!

I'm not totally alone. I have two roommates sharing the day with me. And a friend I haven't seen for a while stopped by for a while. There's been some things lately that bother me but there's nothing I can do about it so I'm here with two friends who care about me. I have relatively good health and yes, there's lots to be thankful for.

Getting together with people who don't like each other "because it's the holidays" is not enjoyable to me. I don't like this business of acting like you like someone to get along. I thought about making a nice meal but just didn't feel like it. Wasn't that hungry. But I did "force" myself to have some pecan pie, ice cream and whipped cream! :D And I shared with my buddies!

Terri, you didn't miss anything. I don't have the girls for the weekend, but I have custody of them and everything and I very well could have spent the holiday with family. I'm just extremely down and chose to stay home. I don't even have an answer as to why.... I just get like this sometimes.. and it seems to be getting worse every time...

Cynic, I spent the day with my little cat buddy who can chill out as well as yours do. lol

I didn't mind being alone today..my choice.

Had a few tummy issues, but did have turkey in the form of a turkey meat loaf. My little Stash cat had her Fancy Feast, turkey flavor with gravy..yummo. When I served her, I told her how thankful I am for her and I could tell she understood. :)

I was alone today too. It was a week ago today that my mom died and I didn't feel like being around a lot of people.

Hey, don't worry about stealing the thread! It's not MY thread! It's amazing how many people choose to be alone on the holidays. If I had a huge, loving family, it would be different. One of my sons called, the other I was told (by the one who called ) was working, so I hope to hear from him sometime later.

I'm not feeling sorry for myself, in fact, the only thing wrong with my day was I wish I had read instead of sitting on the computer all day, but I didn't.

I can sympathize with ones who are depressed and alone,,,,been there,done that.Thank God I have a close family and we enjoy our dinners,and there is no strife. There are times I wish I could spend the day alone,,and there is a difference in being alone and lonely. I havent been real well this year and I was just too tired to cook and enjoy the day,even though I love my family.I pray for those that are depressed and alone,that circumstances will change for the better for them.Being lonely is a horrible place to be,and my heart breaks for those who are.I can only pray for better times and send big cyber hugs to all. I was alone today but not lonely. I am recuperating from foot surgery and must keep my foot elevated. Tikki, Gidget and Peggy Sue were here to keep me company. Jake is vacationing at the kennel this week.

Sending big hugs to those who are alone, missing someone, lonely or depressed. I have been all those things, and I know it's not a good place to be.

Since I lost my parents (6 years ago, and almost a year ago), holidays just aren't the same. This is such a busy, crazy time for me at work, that I don't even put up a tree.

And I hate to see people going so crazy with presents. I always feel so sad for all the children in our community whose parents can't buy the presents their schoolmates get.

I just wish January would hurry and get here.

As many of you, I too chose to be alone but not lonely.

I was with my family for almost 40 yrs. (tradition) so when I finally moved out, I started to enjoy a "no company" life. I am surrounded with friends at work and at other times when I want to but never had felt like I needed to always have someone around me. Fortunately, not yet anyway. Maybe, it's because I just had enough with my family years ago and now it feels like... freedom!

Normally, either my oldest sister do that gathering or I do it at my house. This year however, we were both so worn out and just needed some good rest. So, we didn't do it.

I had a few invitations but had to turn them down.

Since I still wanted a nice Thanksgiving dinner for myself, I had made one good meal. I had a good movie on TV to keep me company and it made me laugh while enjoying the nice dinner. That was so much more than I could hope for.

My neighbor who earlier I turned down her invitation, understood and later brought me over some homemade carrot cake.

I think that when you're alone and knowing that God, friends and family are thinking of you, it's a warm feeling that does not make you feel lonely. Don't you agree?

You all have a great weekend and know that I'm thinking of you all! =o)

I wasn't alone on Thanksgiving. I was sitting by my dying mother's side in the hospital most of the day. She passed later that evening as I was driving home...............................

So sorry to hear your mom passed away Jeanin.

I was with my dad on his last day too. He passed away the day before my birthday. In many ways, I think of him alot on that day and feel warm because I was with him on his last hours.

I hope that somehow, you'd find warm feelings from the last hours you were with your mom too to ease your pain.

Jean, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I know the pain of losing my husband, but also the sigh of relief when he was no longer in pain. The loss of a close loved one can be a duel-edged sword that cuts so deep.

I just didn't choose to be around people this holiday, but chose to be alone, reflect and REALLY COUNT the blessings in my life!

A lot of people choose to be alone or by circumstances are alone but it's often not a situation where people need to feel sorry for them. It's very nice to have some private time and avoid the drudgery often involved in the get-togethers. To anyone who may be sad at being alone, my sympathies. To all who are happy being alone, my congratulations!

Jean...I'm so sorry for your loss...20 years ago on Thanksgiving Day my Dad called us in Georgia...He was in a nursing home in Indiana...He sounded so good and really in good spirits...Two hours later I recevied a phone call that he hung the phone up, had a massive heart attack and died...Thanksgiving Day will never be the same for me...I feel blessed that of his 7 kids...I was the last one he spoke to while on this earth...I miss him so very much...

To those who for their own personal reasons are alone, I wish them the best and a thought. If you choose to do so, there are some organizations that need help in serving others. Like the Salvation Army, and many churches do need help in serving others. For some it is a matter of preparing the food, OR serving OR cleaning up OR entertaining OR just reading etc. But this would be YOUR choice. Or like some of us, sitting by a picture window, with a cup of tea/coffee etc and watching little critters eat outside. I too like my quiet time.

Mariend, I do volunteer my time when my health allows so I know what you're saying. But I think your encouragement is at the wrong place/tread... not so appropriate at this time.

1) Although, it's rewarding, volunteering is very hard work. I even work harder when volunteering than with my pay job. Most of us here had explained that we wanted to be alone to "rest". Meaning, we need some recuperation. How in the world do we get energy to help others at this time?

I have to eat; therefore, I have to cook for at least, myself. I don't consider cooking as hard work unless, I cook for a largre group or party. In that case, I would have had my family Thanksgiving at my house, wouldn't I... you see where it's going, don't you?

2) The rest had explained that they need time alone and not want to be with others. How could someone be cheerful around people and help them if he/she needs some quiet moment to him/herself?

Sorry, but you're making us feeling guilty for not spending time more wisely is sure redundant here... Wrong time, wrong place.
