Which waterborne? (SW ProClassic, BM Impervo, Muralo)

Have 6 interior doors + trim to spray (with an HVLP gun). WB is my best choice because I will be spraying them inside so less fumes the better.

Which waterborne should I use? I can get ProClassic and Impervo pretty easily. Muralo paints are a little farther away from me, but Im not against going to get it if it truly is a better material. The only question I have with Muralo is which paint to use. I want a semi-gloss look on the doors and trim, and I notice their UltraCeramic only comes in gloss (or, at least the semi-gloss version isnt called UltraCeramic).

Any suggestions?

Muralo Ultra does come in semi gloss. I don't know what UltraCeramic is. If you are looking for a semi gloss, then Impervo won't work because it is satin. Is it worth driving far to get Muralo over ProClassic? Probably not...they are both good paints.

Thanks for the advice.

Muralo Ultra Ceramic has ceramic content, so my guess is the durability is very good. The drawback is that it dries as a flat. They have another line that says its ceramic, but MSDS shows no ceramic content (i.e. its about the same as the Ultra non-ceramic line)

I was figuring the ceramic will help with durability, but if I cant get semi-gloss it doesnt really matter......might as well get SW.

Kenzie you have the perfect kitchen for hand-painting kitchen cabinets. You are going to be amazed at the improvement if you follow Christopher's directions. Just don't skip any steps and take your time :). You will see a little grain since your cabinets are oak, but that helps eliminate the look of brush marks also. I am one of those people who don't mind seeing the grain of oak - at least they look like real wood. I have one question for Christoper: How does the BM Impervo and Advance compare to SW Pro-Classic as far as ease of applying?? My reason for asking is that I have used the Pro-Classic on a vanity and was very impressed with the quality of the finished product - just would like to know for future projects.

Michael, thanks for clarifying that. I think I'll stop at the BM dealer first and see if I can take a look at the actual finish. Obviously I know very little about paint. I thought semi-gloss was the standard choice. Being able to use the Impervo product would definitely simplify things for everyone involved.

Thank you all for you opinions! OK, if I go with semi the SW rep told me to use the "Metal Latex" over the dark primer. Is that good stuff? The BM impervo doesn't come in Semi right? So in order to get the impervo's smooth oil-like finish I have to go with satin sheen or choose another trim paint? Does anyone just use the type of paint they used on the wall, but in a higher sheen? I'm using SW Duration Home in satin on the walls...so could I just use that in the semi gloss on the trim? Or will it REALY not smooth out enough? For Turkish Coffee the painter said 3 coats, not the normal 2. Is he talking 3 on top of the primer then if everyone primes first??? He didn't clarify, but some of the cheaper estimators said 2 coats. (I made the dumb assumption primers were a given and weren't counted when they were talking about how many coats)

The painter I hired to paint our kitchen cabinets suggested this paint. I was not very impressed. The first night that I came home after he had worked, I noticed tons of runs and drips under the chair rail on the wainscoting. He looked at it with me the next day and said it was a problem with the paint, it was "drooping". He bought another gallon, same stuff, it did the same thing. Finally, with lots of care (and sanding off the drips and repainting), he did get a pretty good result, but given how much all of this cost, I was disappointed. Now that it is dry and we've been living with it for about 9 months, I have found that it chips pretty easily, and have had to do many touchups. To be fair, these surfaces were previously painted, so I don't know if this is a result of the new paint or the bond to the old (he did use XIM sealer/primer as the first coat). I used the leftovers to paint a few bookcases and trim in another room and I found the odor from the paint to be overwhelming. It made it hard for me to breathe. It is super thick, and hard to smooth. It does have a warranty, and I was tempted to take it back to SW, but with all of the labor costs I'd already paid, getting back $40 for the material didn't really seem worth it. Just a contrary opinion. Sounds like the previous poster really liked it - maybe I just got part of a bad batch?

I don't know how it would behave in a sprayer...but I just got finished painting bathroom cabinets with the Affinity Semi-gloss...and they look GREAT. There is a serious learning curve with that paint...you really have to be careful not to back-brush...but I am pleased.

Also--what about the Ben semi-gloss?

I assume you meant Aura, using Affinity colors?

I used Aura in my daughters room, VERY nice paint but no way would I expect it to work well brushing, much less spraying (it dries waaaaay too quickly). Kudos for being able to brush with it!!

Im looking at durability more than anything. Scouring the net led to recommendations for certain types of paint (mostly oil based) and some specialty waterbornes (Muralo UltraCeramic, SW ProClassic, etc). Thats why I havent really thought of a typical wall paint.......I know my doors will get beat up, so I wanted the best I can do (durability wise), while avoiding oil base (I need to spray in cold weather, so I dont want to leave the house open all day to get rid of fumes)

I have never sprayed Aura, but I can't imagine there would be any problems with spraying it. Yes, it dries faster but all acrylic paints dry fast these days. I don't think there is a paint more durable than Aura these days if you are looking at waterbornes. The regular BM semi gloss and gloss paints are horrible....it's like brushing glue mixed with caulk.

The guy at my paint store told me that there is an Aura approved extender...to increase open working time. Of course, he failed to tell me about it BEFORE I painted my cabinet doors. Here is a picture of the MB cabinet I painted:
