I don't usually measure sour cream, yogurt, mayo, I just use a big spoon to dish it out and kind of "eyeball" it. I use a measure for liquids, I'm not as good at those, things like milk, water, honey, oil...

Anything sticky, gooey or oily goes into it. It's like a rubber spatula in a tube...the clear tube part with the measurements on it comes out clean as a whistle without any additional scraping. Mine measures from 1 tablespoon to 2 cups, in increments easy to read. No name brand on it.

I've had mine for so many years I don't remember how I got it. Probably a gift from one of my kids. The pusher fits very tightly in the tube, so sometimes I have to push really hard...but I love the thing.

I have one; the only thing I use it for is peanut butter . . . and it's GREAT for that!

Yes, Alton Brown convinced me that I had to have one. It does work well, but in the three years that I've had it I think I've only used it twice. It's not a pain to clean, but it is two pieces, rather than just one (as in regular measuring cup). And it needs to be dry before putting it back together. And it takes up more space in the cupboard.

I sound lazy, don't I? I guess I should dig it out and start using it. It really does a good job.

I've been using one for two or three years. Very handy in baking, to measure out shortening. Very durable and accurate. Can be used for any ingredient that is a bit difficult to measure accurately and that is not easily packed into (and removed from) a regular measuring cup.

I don't have too many specialty kitchen gadgets but have had one of those measuring cups for a few years. I mostly use it for honey because it used to slow me down scraping the remnants of the honey out of my regular measuring cups. Great for peanut butter too.

I've tried it and haven't loved it. When I used it for sticky but liquid items like honey, once it was filled the stuff would sometimes slosh out when lifting it from where I had filled it on the counter into the mixing bowl and then as I started tipping it over some might also drip down the side before I got it upside down.

It might be nice for semi-solid stuff like peanut butter or shortening but I don't measure those often enough by volume for it to matter. Sometimes for shortening, I'll use the water displacement method in a measuring cup - if you need 1/3 of a cup of shortening, you put 2/3 of a cup of water in the cup and then put lumps of shortening in until the water level gets up to about a cup. That works particularly nicely when you needed the liquid in the recipe anyway.

More and more, I've been figuring out what a cup of something is by weight. Put the bowl on the scale, tare it out and add the ingredient. No packing, no scraping.

Depending on what I'm making, I sometimes use Annie's method too.

Diana(dlundin) gave me one in a swap years ago...paired with a little measuring shot glass. I love it for sticky things. I use it for peanut butter, honey, and corn syrup for the most part. I just run it through the DW and rub a little oil around the rim of the push up thing to make it easy to glide up or down,

I use mine for peanut butter and honey and other sticky stuff, works great. For shortening, I just use a measuring cup with water, but I don't see why it wouldn't be great for that too. The one I have is an Adjust a Cup, I got it at the local cooking store but I've seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond too. The trick to measuring liquids in there is that the liquid fill line is a little below the top of the cup so you've got some room to maneuver when you're trying to get it to the bowl.
