My First eBay Sale - Hope to declutter more!

So I have done my first eBay listing! I'm very nervous. Starting out with 4 items, which are clothing items. I have been told to start small, and earn some good reviews. Then I can move on to some of my collectibles. I am looking forward to decluttering some of my less wanted collectibles, so I can truly enjoy my collections that I want to keep.

My boss sold a lot of her daughter's nicer clothing, got good reviews, and then was able to move onto other items.

The key for me is organizing the sales. My idea is to sell small quantities, so that I can ensure I can get them shipped on time. I also have packaged them as I have posted them.

Does anyone else have any good tips I can use to stay organized and on top of things?

I too have been trying to declutter and sell some things on e-bay. I have only listed about 6 things at a time. As I list them I put them in a rubbermaid tote set aside so there will be no confusion what has been listed. I have so many professional clothes that I no longer wear it seems silly to keep them in my tooo full closet. I have started my items out at a very low price, I really just want them out of here and make a little in the deal!
One thing my post office said was to order the shipping things from usps.com and I have done that, its great to have the boxes here to package the items.

If there's a chance that someone may buy more than one of your items at a time and they could be shipped for less money if packaged together, you might want to wait to package the items until after the auctions are done. Buyers like to save money on combined shipping! Once I win an auction, I know I always look at what else the seller has listed to see if there's anything else of interest to me, if they'll give a discount for combined shipping.

Hi...its all as they say walking a thin line, and all advertising and many many low-life do it.... I often google plants in images to see what they look like and there is always lots of pictures from GW...there not GW's pictures there the people on this sites pictures but they are taken from here and used by who ever, because if you click on some it takes you to all different sites, having nothing to do with plants...so whats that.... and the world of words...you can put anything into words and what is discribed is not what you think was discribed...has that ever happen to anyone??? and where do you go to get this undone???? to get your justice???? I agree with you what you post is yours, but there is no respect, there is no keep your fingers off others stuff........... I see lots of so called good people in church every sunday..and I guess that makes up for their actions the rest of the week..... Please don't chop me up for this post.... I grew up when there were no locks and you respected all your neighbors the ones you knew and the ones you haven't meet yet....linda

According to counter at the bottom of the listing, it has had 515 hits! That seems like an awful lot to me, although I'm not used to following antique photo auctions, so maybe that's average. I hope the bidding isn't going to go impossibly high. I can't say that I'm crazy about the picture (I have better ones, although few so large), but I would like to have it.

Just wanted to add that where I suspect there was a scam (in fact I might even call it fraud) is in regard to Greyhound and insurance. He insurred each chair for $300 and from the sound of it, was assuming I'd make a claim through Greyhound and get reimbursed for the cost of the chair plus have one functional chair. He did not bet on my taking it to a antique furniture restoration store (which I might not have except that I needed to get my dining room chair fixed) and that person telling me that he saw these types of things all the time in insurance claims and said and put in writing that it was clearly not shipping related damage. When I spoke to Paypal they said this is the type of information they look for when handling a dispute. Now my other issue is if I send it back do I insure it (it's my understanding that Greyhound will insure for $300 for no additional cost). There is a page where the cost of the item is declared. For the damaged chair, I want to declare a cost of $0 since I want to prevent him from filing a Greyhound claim on return. FOr the other chair DH and I were discussing 1/2 the cost I paid--about $100.

E-bay; I spent a summer or three shopping e-bay back when you had to have a paypal account to bid and I did not. A friend handled all that. She loved getting packages. We argued over the different shipping charges. Later I found out I was correct sellers did use shipping charges as a way to hide profits from Ebay's % take. Nothing about selling made sense. I was buying 'collectables' for pennies compared to their original purchase price. The seller is under a lot of pressure to get things in the mail RIGHT NOW once an item is sold. Items come broken... Our post office is to be avoided at all costs. Nope the church garage sales/good will make sooo much more sense to me when off loading STUFF. The people shopping there also get items they are wanting at prices they can afford and that makes me happy. When I am done with something I am done! I don't need to expend even one more minute than necessary getting rid of it--and it doesn't end up in a landfill by my hand. Plus plus. Posting items, dickering on price at times, watching for final sale, wrapping, hauling to the Post Office adds up to a lot of time I sure don't have to give and I have a TON of time on my hands!!!

Karen and Silvercomet, those are great tips! I'm having fun! I listed 5 items, and only one has generated interest. I have 3 bids and 4 watchers so far. So either way, at least I know it's sold.

I'm like a kid with a toy -- I can't help but watch the pot while it tries to boil - LOL

My coworker also said his wife likes to do 7 day listings starting and ending on Saturdays because a lot of folks shop along those timelines. So we shall see what happens with my listings!

I have a few things I'm planning to sell on Ebay; I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe during these winter months I can take care of that. I read somewhere that ending on Sat. or Sun. is best.
