Best furniture layout/selection for this small space?
Comments (9)We have a small oddly configured living room with a sliding French door on one wall, the front door and fireplace on the opposite wall and our TV armoire and bookshelves on an adjoining wall, the combination of which makes a very unusual arrangement with very limited placement. A small sectional was really the best use of our space and we love it. Both DH and I ask ourselves why on earth we hadn't purchased a sectional before we did. It honestly has made our very difficult room enjoyable, giving us plenty of seating and floor space. We also have a square coffee table ottoman that we can use for either resting our tootsies or additional seating when necessary. Granted you can't rearrange a sectional, but if it fits your needs and makes your room more inviting and workable the need to move furniture around is a moot point. Our sectional measures 94" x 94" and is made by Clayton Marcus. It's a traditional/transitional style with no skirt, which makes the look cleaner and more tailored. I would encourage you to look at various smaller sectionals....See MoreNeed small eat in kitchen layout help.
Comments (27)I think you'll really appreciate those extra inches as it would give more space for someone to be at the sink while someone is cooking. Two people may be a bit crowded if one is prepping but you could also prep to the right of the stove, if needed. Not as convenient as it's farther fro the sink but it is do-able. I like how you changed the cabinet by the door as well. I know some people will shudder at your blind corner cabinet. They're not popular here. I have one and I don't mind it as I only store things deeper inside it that I rarely use. I rarely make a bundt cake, for example, but I'm reluctant to get rid of my pan. So the once a year or so that I have to get on my knees, remove the items directly behind the door that are more frequently used, and dig for the bundt cake pan isn't a big deal to me. If you decide to use the blind corner, consider your storage needs and ensure that you won't have to put things in there that you use often that would make the blind corner very annoying....See MoreBest Layout for smallest useable kitchen? Comments (101)Sorry, it’s been a long day. A lot of people here today, the designer and a team from the contractor and my head is spinning. As it turns out, you were all right. The designer arrived with 10ft of floor space instead of 7ft, needed by the staircase, which I was pretty frustrated about. Rebunky, I forgot to ask about the fire code but there’s no concern there, because the stairway and entry will be completely walled off from the garage. I don’t want an open stairway in the garage to the apartment. The garage will have an opener with a remote, so there should be no problem walking into the garage to access their storage. At this point, Sena, I’m feeling a little lack of trust in the figures and I’m going to have to have him confirm every measurement I’m using. I haven’t sat down to think about the layout again today. We had a lot to go over today and that was just one of many. As soon as I can, I’ll look it over again and see what I am willing to do to accommodate that. I am not going to go for part of the stairway on a second wall. I’d still like to see if I could keep the stairway in the middle and out of the bedroom and living room. Which would probably mean starting the stairway back on the North wall all the way in the corner, but I need a 5ft landing on the garage level, then 10ft of stairway and a landing at the top. So if I add 4ft so a total of 33ft in length, maybe that would get the stairway in the middle? That’s it for me tonight. Thanks for checking in with me....See MoreKitchen design advice for small awkward layout in 1900 farmhouse
Comments (6)Maybe, push peninsula even further back to give more space within. keep chairs with people out of walk way. need panel on right side of microwave hood. Keep same spacing on both sides of window to keep balanced symmetry around window. Stoves that close to corner is not ideal. make sure fillers in corner are wide enough so drawers don't hit handles...See MoreKaren Kirmse
