A small room used for TV viewing......My first thought was individual chairs,like parsons chairs, but they aren't very comfy. So......then comfort comes into play. Now I'm thinking club chairs. 5 club chairs? NOT! If your seating small children they will sit next to one another on a couch, but if you have adults over, they rarely will sit next to a non family member on a couch or sectional. Right? If this is a family only TV viewing room, then a sectional will fit the most people.

That's exactly what I'm struggling with - the non-family viewers on the sectional. It's the main reason I'm hemming and hawing over what pieces to get. We'll mostly have family in this room so should we just go with the sectional and grin and bear it when we have adult movie/sport viewing events?

For maximum family space, the sectional would be the way to go in a small room. You dont end up loosing any floor space as you would between pieces of furniture. If the room were larger or if it was more for entertaining guests, I would definitely say sofa and chairs.

For reference, 10x10 is the size of a standard suburban guest room. I really believe it's entirely too small for a sectional, any sectional, even one marked "apartment size". I'd get a very petite sofa and one, maybe two, small chairs.

This was my 11x11 guest room in my first house. The sofa is 87" long and took up the entire wall when you include doorswing. That coffee table's about 3x5. See how little space there is? And the walls were 1ft longer than yours :(

Yikes. That is concerning. I need to get that tape measure out again and head back to the furniture stores. Ugh.

Honestly, it is a little hard to make recommendations without seeing the room layout. Windows, doors, heating vents, etc. will all matter a lot in a room this small. Could you use one of the room planner sites or even draw the basic room on a piece of paper and post it here?

This may be kind of odd, but if this room is really only about watching tv, perhaps you should consider doing a couple of rows of theater seating or couches.

We have a sectional, and I seriously regret getting it. It makes rearranging furniture difficult, and I feel like it would have been better to have a love seat or a couch and a couple chairs instead of a couch taking up two whole walls, which turned out to be WAY more seating than we actually need. Ugh. Every day I want to throw it out the window.. if that were possible. It makes the room seem smaller than it is, too. This is just my experience, especially if you are the type of person to get bored with the way your room is arranged.

We have a small oddly configured living room with a sliding French door on one wall, the front door and fireplace on the opposite wall and our TV armoire and bookshelves on an adjoining wall, the combination of which makes a very unusual arrangement with very limited placement. A small sectional was really the best use of our space and we love it. Both DH and I ask ourselves why on earth we hadn't purchased a sectional before we did. It honestly has made our very difficult room enjoyable, giving us plenty of seating and floor space. We also have a square coffee table ottoman that we can use for either resting our tootsies or additional seating when necessary. Granted you can't rearrange a sectional, but if it fits your needs and makes your room more inviting and workable the need to move furniture around is a moot point. Our sectional measures 94" x 94" and is made by Clayton Marcus. It's a traditional/transitional style with no skirt, which makes the look cleaner and more tailored. I would encourage you to look at various smaller sectionals.
