I've been thinking of Annie and the happy couple all week and wanted to post and ran out of time!
Toasting everyone with my ice tea! May you both have a lifetime full of love, laughter,happiness and peace!

Annie, enjoy every minute of the wedding you! Can't wait for pictures!

Ann, I have hunted for a while now for muffin tins! Where did you find them?? I want sooooo bad to make them from scrath. I have heard they are so much better than store bought. I was told to use tuna cans with both ends cut off. Okay, but now all the tuna cans have that rounded edge on the bottom instead of an edge like the top of the can has. You can NOT cut the bottom out of the new cans without loosing a finger or messing up your can opener. Why do they have to "fix" everything? That can was just fine the way it was! David loves fresh made loaves of bread too Ann. You don't happen to have a recipe for really good scali bread do you?? I love the way Wal-mart(of all places!) make their Scali bread or the little braided scali rolls!!! OMG...they are delish! Deb

Sanju, From the list you've mentioned, I can warmly suggest Jubilee Celebration. It's the best from the list for this climate type. It will repeat well, and produce lots of blooms till May in Melbourne. But it's a big one: goes in back of the border. Pat Austin ... It will get burned in January/February. It has big, gentle petals, and somewhat fragile. First flush is lovely, but when the heat hits 40 C in few days, it looks .. well .. :-( Also, petals will drop within 4-5 days from opening, no matter what weather. Be careful. Sharifa Asma is not too bad, but there are much better English roses suitable for this climate. Try Miss Alice instead: it grows better, and is overall a much better rose. Munstead Wood is a new rose this year, and it reminds of WS2000. However, sources say it behaves a bit better than WS2000, has a neater form and it's not as notorious in shooting long canes as WS2000 does in this climate. But it does shoot long canes nevertheless. JumboJimmy, we cannot still ascertain is Munstead Wood poor repeater or not; not yet. Many factors contribute to that and I don't always trust what nurseries say, because there roses live in somewhat extreme conditions compared to our gardens. Sanju, if you like myrrh scent, I'd avoid mishy-mushy Tamora and plant Ambridge Rose. That's one of the best English roses ever for this climate too. Period. It's strong, healthy and reliable, blooms first and ends last. Mayflower is fantastic, but makes great sense to plant few of them for best effect which then reminds of a thicket of Gallicas. All in all, very few roses from DA's Old Rose Hybrids group are fit for Australia. St Swithun is one of them. It's big, but it's an amazing rose. It has a very strong myrrh scent. Leander group, however, and Hybrid Musks Group are much better overall because they have scents that activate better in warm climates, petals that are not too thin, shallower flower shapes that won't burn in the sun. And all are strong growers. Another great one for Australia is Teasing Georgia. William Morris too. Pegasus has the most powerful tea scent, but tends to sleep later in season. Crown Princess Margareta is lovely and will grow big. However, they're all, as you can see, bigger ones. This season I've seen a new Strawberry Hill, and it looks very, very promising. I felt very tempted! Tea Clipper and Port Sunlight are other two to check as well.

RR, that's Ashley sitting on the floor in front of Makayla, with her hair back and the black sweater! She's letting her hair grow, so she just pulled it back. The cake was excellent, especially with the topping, which ran down and made the bottom of the cake sour/sweet and kind of crunchy. Yummy, and the guys swiped the leftovers for the bachelor party. I guess it went OK with beer and Jack Daniels, LOL. Glazed Lemon Sour Cream Cake From The California Cook cookbook Serves 8-10 Note this cake may be prepared up to 3 days in advance, and kept at room temperature, tightly covered. The cake can also be wrapped tightly in aluminum foil and frozen for up to 2 months. Serve with seasonal berries and a dollop of whipped cream. Ingredients: 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature 1 cup sugar 3 large eggs at room temperature 1 Tablespoon minced lemon zest 2 teaspoons lemon extract 1 cup sour cream Glaze: 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar 1/2 cup strained fresh lemon juice 2 teaspoons finely chopped lemon zest Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9-inch lightweight Bundt pan. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda together in a medium mixing bowl. Set aside. 2. In a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed, or in a food processor fitted with the metal blade, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Beat in the eggs, zest, and lemon extract and mix for 2 minutes. 3. Reduce the mixer to the lowest speed, add half the flour mixture, and mix until well combined. Add half the sour cream, mixing constantly, and then add the rest of the flour and sour cream, ending with the sour cream. 4. Pour the mixture into the prepared Bundt pan, and bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a cake rack. Make the glaze. 5. Using a wire strainer, sift the powdered sugar into a small non-aluminum bowl. Add the juice and lemon zest, and whisk to break up any clumps. 6. Place the cake on a wax paper-lined rimmed baking sheet. Using a long skewer, poke holes in the cake almost going through the bottom at 1-inch intervals. 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder 1/8 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon table salt 1 cup whole milk 4 large eggs 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 8 (1-inch thick) slices Challah bread 1 teaspoon butter Confectioners sugar for garnish In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, cocoa, instant espresso powder, baking powder and salt. Blend well so no cocoa lumps remain. Pour in about half of the milk and whisk until the mixture is a lump-free paste. Add the remaining milk, eggs and vanilla; whisk until well blended. Polk holes in the bread slices with a skewer (or fork) and dip into chocolate mixture; lay in a single on a jelly roll pan. Pour remaining chocolate mixture over bread and let soak, turning occasionally until all the batter is absorbed, about 10 minutes (or over night). Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. When the pan is hot, add the butter to melt then add the bread slices in a single layer. Cook until they look browned and lightly crisp, 4 or 5 minutes (reduce the temperature if the bread is browning too fast. Flip and continue to cook until lightly puffed in the center, another 4 or 5 minutes. Serve immediately dusted with confectioners sugar and serve with fresh fruit or maple syrup. *Inspired by Chocolate French Toast from Fine Cooking magazine. Segments of 1 large orange 2/3 cup fresh squeezed orange juice 6 large eggs 1/3 cup milk Zest of 2 large oranges 3 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon orange liqueur (Grand Mariner) 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 pound loaf French bread; cut into 1-inch slices Put orange segments and orange juice in blender; process on high 1 minute. Add eggs and liquefy. Add milk, zest, sugar, liquor, vanilla and salt; process 1 minute. Place bread in a shallow dish. Pour egg mixture over all and let stand overnight in refrigerator. Heat griddle to 250° or 300°. Add 3 tablespoons butter and cook bread until golden and cooked through. Cooking at low temperature so the center will be fully cooked and not soggy. Serve hot with warm syrup. **I have made this without setting over night. Just leave on counter about 30 minutes before cooking. 1 loaf Challah (or French) bread 8 large eggs 2 cups half & half 2 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 stick cold butter 1 cup packed light brown sugar 1 cup chopped pecans 2 tablespoons light corn syrup 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Maple syrup, optional Slice bread into 3/4-inch slices and arrange in a generously buttered 9X13-inch baking dish in two overlapping rows. In a large bowl, beat eggs using a fork and add half & half, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt; blend well. Dip each piece of bread into egg mixture for about 20 seconds and place back in the baking dish. After all slices have been soaked and replaced in dish, pour remaining egg mixture over all. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. Prepare the topping by placing the butter, brown sugar, pecans, corn syrup and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a food processor and pulse just until mixture crumbles. (Or combine in a bowl using your hands.) Cover and refrigerate overnight. The next day, preheat oven to 350°. Sprinkle the topping over the bread and bake for 40 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden.
