Where do I put these suitcases & duffle bags?
Comments (18)The thing that struck me about your post is that you have what "seems like" 2 dozen duffel bags. How many duffel bags do you actually have? I'm a very literal person, so I'm visualizing 24 duffels in 1 house. That's a lot of bags, whether they are floating around/distributed throughout the house, or all stacked and stored neatly in a well thought-out location. You say they are floating around the house. To me, that means they don't have designated homes. I do understand from your post you are trying to get ideas to make an organized home for things. I would do an actual count of bags so I knew exactly the status and project I'm dealing with. The way my brain works, I don't classify the duffels as the problem (other than the fact that 24 duffels are too many)...it sounds to me like you don't have homes for the contents of the duffels...and you are using all these bags as a means of storage for other things...and you don't have storage places for the things inside. My point, in trying to get to the core of your question, I'm trying to determine if you want to: 1. store the empty duffels when not in-use? 2. organize/store the contents of the duffels? 3. want to store the full duffels and contents in a sense that you would use duffel bags as the storage containers instead of traditional boxes, rubbermaids, or whatever. Different solution ideas for what you intend to do. Could you clarify? I really want to help...I'm either not getting your question, or wondering if you are so focused on the duffels themselves, that you're not thinking about the contents, and the other options you have. As for the suitcases...I have a musty basement too. You could get a large airtight bag (large garbage bag or 2), twist & secure the opening, and store it in your basement. As long as the contents of the bag are kept airtight, you shouldn't have a problem. You stated you do use the suitcases for business travel...so it's not like the suitcases will be shoved in some musty corner and never touched for years on end left to degrade and deteriorate. I'd love to further discuss the duffels. Could you provide more info or thoughts? Gayle...See MoreHappy to have found a staging designer!
Comments (9)Depends how large your house is, would people buying have children or grandchildren who visit? Do they need to have a place to watch TV away from the adults? Is there a first floor family room in addition to a formal living room? Or would the media room be a family room since there is not one on the first floor? In that case I would at least throw a cheap couch and TV down there otherwise I would reconsider the office idea, especially if there is no first floor office You say you have a lot of stroage, is it hidden away? One thing I did not appreciate about my house is the hidden storage I have, a full basement, now finished with some huge closets and a laundry furnace room and an unfinished attic with a full staircase. I will miss the attic because it is such a luxury to store empty computer boxes, out of season, out of size clothes indefinitely. I like that, DH throws everything out as soon as it looks the tiniest bit worn. If you are like him you may not be the best judge of how much storage you need. There is one house we rejected preceisly because it had very little hidden storage despite being a big house and having a walk in master closet the size of most bedrooms. There was only a tiny spot in the attic to store suitcases and the garage was not suitable...See MoreBuilt-in beds with storage?
Comments (8)Mamagoose, the fold up bed which becomes a dresser is similar to the ones we saw in Ireland in the castle and museum near Shannon. It is like the shaker pegs up high that they would hang chairs from, or even small chests hung on the wall from the "chair rail" and the wainscoting rail which was even higher up the wall. The shakers did not waste an inch of space. And it was flexible for use in different ways. I was thinking of the 4 captain's chairs (Windsor wooden) that my DH wants to keep, but which have no place in the house. I'm planning a high wooden board with good pegs spread on it, in my Teahouse, up high above the cement blocks where the wood framing for the end gables and the roofline begins. I'll hang those four chairs up there to preserve them. Also, if you think about it, a huge table can host a mattress. My former neighbor had a raised captain's bed built with draw curtains and a huge assortment of drawers beneath. Her grandson now has her house, she lives with his parents. Her home thus is staying in the family. The house was a small post WWII construction that my friend bought for her retirement. But it is back to serving a younger generation....See MoreWhere to put an overnight bag/suitcase?
