Please! It's not "how did she loose her keys." It's NOT

"when did she loose her mind."

How did she LOSE her keys? When did she LOSE her mind?

lol Can you just tell I read an article where the author

actually used LOOSE instead of lose? criminy! I see

it ALL over. And it just seems like it happened lately,

within the last year or year and a half.

I know we talk about it all the time, but like I said,

I'm grouchy! ahahhaaa And I needed to post! lol

Lol! I know, I'm the same way... I like writings to be grammatically correct. And when I read my posts back sometimes, I wish I'd worded things differently myself. I can totally relate.

I do sentinal beach combing, write down and keep track of everything that washes up on the beach. Years ago I went to Florida for the seabean convention, yes, it's real, every October in Coco beach. One of the attendees works cleaning the beach. She had found a "brick". Threw it in the dumpster at the park. Well, when we found out we all HAD to go and look. So we loaded up in 3 cars, drove across town, PAID to get into the park and proceeded to pull everything out of the dumpster she had thrown in. We were looking at bottles, big chunks of something we tried to break open by dashing it against the parking lot, the "brick", which was a very well-wrapped package of very high grade marijuana. It was pretty stinky and rotten. But did that stop us? Oh no, we all had to smell it, touch it. So here we are, a bunch of old farts in a parking lot, professors, lawyers, nurses, throwing around stuff that had washed up on the beach and playing with a couple of pounds of rotted marijuana. The people at the hotel had a good time watching us but luckily noone called the police. I do not know how we would have explained that one!! Honestly officer, we're out here in the pitch dark digging through a dumpster with a couple of pounds of marijuana because we're at a seabean convention!!! Do you think they would have thrown us in jail or just the nut ward? I gotta make reservations for next year, that's a fun convention. Tally HO!

I've had the same problem this year with my basement. For weeks all I could think of was "A River Runs Through It" or "Waterworld". :-) Tomatoes hate being waterlogged. Moreso than most plants. You could always stick your finger (or a stick) in the ground it see if it's soggy down around the roots. Or, if you pull up one of the plants, check to see that the ground is not waterlogged around the roots. If it is, that is likely the problem. I doubt anything leached from the roof into the water and killed the plants. We are down to some of the most likely suspects: 1. Water - way too much or way too little. 2. Herbicides -- either sprayed nearby and drifted unto the plants, or in the manure (or soil, if brought in). However, I would expect to see deformed and stunted foliage prior to death. Looking at the dead leaves, it's hard to detect any distortion in the foliage. The wilting leaves don't look distorted. 3. Disease. There are several diseases that can cause wilting, but disease is not obvious from the photo. Afterthought: Since your sedum looks unhealthy also, did you use cow manure on that too? Many farms use pasture pesticides that pass right through grazers' digestive systems and into the manure unchanged. Then we take the manure, dress our gardens, and it causes our plants to die or at least struggle. When getting manure or soil or compost, it would probably be a good idea to ask which pesticides they are using in their pasture. Then use accordingly. My kids used to spend lots and lots of time with my mother. She was, and still is, very active, has a pool in her back yard, etc. Like you, she spends way too much money on them. She still has lots of energy, she's the same person she was, but my kids don't spend nearly as much time with her now. As stargazzer says, they want to spend time with their friends. They rarely ever spend the night anymore, even though they used to practically live over there in the summers. I don't know what your budget is, how comfortable you are with technology, etc. One suggestion I have, if it fits your budget, is to get some kind of computer gaming station or something like that that your grandchildren will enjoy at your house (especially something they don't already have at their own house). You might look at something like a Wii(sp?), Dance Dance Revolution, etc. You might have enough energy to sit on the sofa and play those types of games with them - not dance dance revolution but some of the other games. Your 11 year old granddaughter should be able to set it up for you. The nice thing about gaming systems is that they don't make a mess, the kids love them, you don't have to always be running around after them. When my kids were as young as your grandchildren I limited their time on gaming systems, etc. But if you were my mom, I would surely make an exception so that you could still enjoy time with my kids. There are lots of things your son or daughter could do to help with this issue. Your son or daughter could once a month rent a really fun movie for them to watch, do something with them outdoors all day like swimming (so they are tired), and bring the kids and the movie to your house for a movie night. You could order takeout pizza, snuggle up and see a movie while your son/daughter has a night out with their spouse. The other thing you might do that makes things more manageable would be to have them over one at a time, not all at once. Here's my last suggestion, and again, you'd need your son/daughter's help. My mom lives in our subdivision, and I tried to teach my kids that it's their responsibility to help look after their grandmother. It's good for kids to be needed and contribute to the family. So if you were my mom, I would expect the older girls to come help you on a regular basis. The 10 and 11 year old could help you grocery shop, and their treat for helping might be to pick out some special food treat and have it at your house. My kids used to love to help me grocery shop, in fact they still do. They are old enough to "help" you by cooking simple meals for you. Sometimes when kids "help", it's way too much work for the adult. But if your son/daughter comes over at first and teaches them what to do, then your granddaughters will be terrific help. My mom always has something fun for my kids when they come help her - she bakes them brownies or something like that. Talk to your son/daughter and find some special treat you can get for your grandchildren that's unique to your house. If you are like my mom, you probably don't want to "put the kids out" by asking for help. But keep in mind that in the long run you are showing the kids how to be part of a close, loving family in good times and bad, and your grandkids will feel better about themselves in the long run. It's so much better for teenagers and young adults if they have a good relationship with loving grandparents. They need someone else to talk to when their mean old parents don't like their boyfriend, or is mad about their grades, or won't let them pierce their eyebrows or get a motorcycle. So don't feel that you are imposing by getting help from your granddaughters. My mother misses my kids terribly.

I guess I'm more than eligible to join this exclusive club! Just a few minutes ago I went to put a dish towel in the washer for the next load, and guess what? Yep, there was the last load from a few days ago!! It was a small load of darks. So now it is being washed again, and it just occurred to me as I am typing this that I should have added some things to it! I guess that is a twofer that adds to my eligibility. and no matter how many times we cringe when we see it written, it is not going to change.
Drives me nuts, too!
And.....some people tell me "Your cute." Instead of "You're cute." I guess I should be glad for the compliment. LOL

Yes, that makes me mad also. But the use of 'seen' when what the person did was 'saw' makes me even madder. I saw a pretty bird, NOT, I seen a pretty bird!!

It saddens me more than makes me mad. It seems that command of the English language is extremely sporadic and nos is the art of spelling. . . without spellcheck! The computer doesn't understand whose v. who's or its v it's. It used to upset me then I remembered...."Don't sweat the small stuff, and is ALL small stuff".

I would rather read it with less than perfect grammar than have a person not post because they fear making an error.

Lose and loose, and chose and choose... I always have to think about them before writing/typing. :)

But my biggest problem I've posted about before. I tend to use strange made-up words like "duh'nt" for doesn't, and it'nt for isn't. I've gained a lot of weight over the last few years and think that maybe my tongue has gotten fat, too, and it makes some words hard to pronounce. LOL

Don't get me started . Kids can't spell, they can barely write cursive now.
I don't know what the heck they are being taught, but it isn't English grammar.
How many times have you seen this..I should OF gone to the ----. Drives me nuts.
I have even corrected folks on FB where I see it on a daily basis .

I must admit it drives me nuts too; my mother is a grammar fanatic, thank you mother! :) The one that gets me the most is "you're vs your"....come on people! Weren't you listening back in 3rd grade??

People keep asking me how t spell something..

HELLOOOOO, I am the one that learned English as a second language.... it doesn't come easy to me... I really have to think about it... and write it out at times....

I've had a problem myself with lose and loose until I finally got them straightened out in my head. I stop and think of a 'loose' wheel, and even envision it as a wobbly wheel.

Often too, if I am in doubt about grammar in a sentence, I will just reword it to avoid possibly making an error.

The one that drives me nuts is "ain't got none." I used to have a boy come here after school that said this. Didn't surprise me one bit when I heard his mom say the same thing..

I hear ya, Kat! I get aggravated by poor grammar and spelling all the time, too.

For instance- grown people who write "fourty" instead of "forty". Sheesh. I used to see that on checks all the time when I worked in a shop.

I wish everyone had the little spell-check thing that I have - it underlines words with a red squiggle and if you right-click on that word, it gives you the correct spelling or different words that are similar.

Remember the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond about homework and grammar?

Ray: Reading all those sports books and watching those sports on TV, that's how I got to be where I'm at.
Marie: (long pause) "That's how I got to be where I'm at?" Ray: Yeah.
Marie: You're a writer, and that's how you use the English language?
Ray: Yeah, what? What did I do?
Marie: You never end a sentence with the word "at!"
Ray: Okay, okay. Big deal, so I ended a sentence with a proposition.
Marie: Preposition! It's a preposition--oh my God!

I found that particular show exceptionally funny.

Thanks for starting this. It also drives me nuts when people write loose for lose, or the other way around.

Also the misuse of I and me. My former boss did that all the time. In fact, she even "corrected" me when I wrote it correctly. Maybe I should say she corrected I. Hah.

How about "I could care less" when the correct phrase is "I couldn't care less". If you say I could care less, you are saying that you DO care, since it is possible for you to care less than you do. If you say I couldn't care less, you are saying it is not possible for you to care less than you do now. In other words, you don't care.

Is that as clear as mud?

I am guilty of using the wrong spelling and probably should look up a couple of words and tape them near my computer to remind me. But then grammer was never my favorite in school. Thanks for reminding me how to drive others nuts--LOL--but I try not to do that --much--

While I'm not a 'text' person.. I understand that there are some 'aut-corret' programs that drive people crazy... the ones that can spell...
irregardless is not a word.. the correct word is regardless. thank you for allowing my to share a pet peeve.

I'm with Gazania. I really hate when people say seen for saw. A coworker does this, and I feel I should correct him but don't want to be rude. But it bugs me!!

i'm also one who just restructures a sentence if i'm not sure of the correct spelling or usage of a word...

i'm also ashamed to admit that even though i know it drives many people crazy when i don't capitalize, i do it anyway (grin)

I complained on another site about bad spelling/grammar,
then realized I had made a mistake in my own post, so now I
laugh it off when I see something not right.
(It was kind that no one pointed it out to me, I reread it
later and caught/corrected it myself)

Yes, seen, saw, your, you're,

but LOOSE and LOSE aren't spelled wrong, they obviously
have NO CLUE to the MEANING of these words. That is
really crazy to me! lol It's not like they are a strange
scientific word, one that most people wouldn't know.
