Thank you both! Any ideas for paint colors or drape colors? The close ups of the rug are pretty true to color. The rug color is called mocha. It is "Chatham Square" from the Karastan Carriage House collection. The current paint color is SW Ecru. It has a green cast to it. In bright light,which I don't get, it is Khaki/Tan. I don't care for the greenish tint.

Are you keeping the bedding? If so, maybe go with a pattern drape to bring in a little more pattern there?

Hmmm...hard to say about the bedskirt w/o seeing. The white looks like it would go better with current bedding, but the linen color with the rug.

Maybe try pulling the rug out from under the bed a bit? Can't tell if there is room opposite the bed or not. If there is, it might look bigger since it would cover more floor? From the picture though, it does not look too small for the room at all.

Love the rug and the headboard. Is the headboard burlap and may I ask where you purchased it :) I think your room is beautiful as is so I'm not sure I'd be any help with the paint choice, but have you looked at any shades of blue as I see there's blue in the rug. Can't wait to see what paint color you choose as I'm sure it will look fantastic!

The reason I mentioned brown moire taffeta is because I have some and it looks as though it would work perfectly with your pretty rug.

My first instinct is to suggest pulling out the blue that is in the rug for your wall color. I think it would make the headboard and your rug really stand out.

If blue walls aren't you, then I would go with a more bronze-toned brown from the rug, rather than some of the pinker-toned browns. Then do a pale blue on the ceiling.

But what I am wondering is if the rug could become the center of a wonderful seating area in the space, rather than half-stuck under the skirted bed? What might happen then is that the room will feel like you have areas of interest, rather than the bed placed dead center in the room and everything else just rotating around it.

Les has given you some great ideas. Our room is very similar and so is our bed. So, I will be reading this thread for some ideas too. I love the mirror above the bed.
I think the size of the rug is fine. I think the linen bedskirt would work nicely.

It looks like you can move the bed and night stands down more away from the window. If you can, I would try it. That will give you more space for your sitting area. With that, perhaps you can add another small area rug in a different pattern or solid.

As far as wall color, I'm with Les. It's the first think that hit me when I saw the rug was the blue. Les's idea of a blue ceiling would be spectacular and really add a nice decorators touch.

For the windows keep is simple. My suggestion would be to look for pleated drapes close the the wall color. Try expanding the size of the window by using a longer rod and adding panels for a more luxurious look.

Are you planning on changing the night stands or updating them. Darker wood would look nice with new hardware.

Defintely club chairs and a little table.

Woo, nice find! Unless you're adding a pillow or something else on the bed in the linen color I'm having a hard time picturing that being the only thing, on the bed, in linen.

Love the rug! Perhaps because I've been focusing on my DS's room so much and looking at various shades of blue for his room, my suggestion would be to work with the blue in the rug. I think your headboard would look stunning against that. Perhaps, one of the colors I'm considering for DS would look good--the BM Wedgewood Gray or BM Palladian Blue.

It is a very pretty rug! I would definitely slide the bed over and create a seating area in front of the window, grounded with the rug. Also, if you have the bedside table in front of the outlet (even barely flush with it), it would hide those cords (a huge thing for me personally-can't stand having cords showing).

There's a nice grey-blue in the rug, which might work better on the walls than the green you have.

I'd use the blue, cream, mocha and rust from the rug in florals and stripes or window-pane checks.

It's a light color combo, not too feminine, and currently easy to find.

Thank you everyone! Some great suggestions to think about. As far as moving the bed down: currently it is centered under the peak of the ceiling. You can see a little of the slope in some of the pics. Also, there is a ceiling fan (ugh) also centered in the room. DH would never let me replace that with a nice chandy although I could do without the fan. Directly across from the bed is a triple dresser and mirror. I will get a pic of that. There is a wonky wall. When I was moving the bed around to place the rug, I did place the bed in front of the window with the nightstands on either side. I loved how it looked even though it was in front of the window. The drapes framed the bed and that wall being shorter created a very cozy look. But that left me with the rest of the room empty and as would happen, moving one thing led to moving another and so on and seemed like a lot of trouble. The TV is propped up on my dresser across from the bed also. That's were the cable outlet is.
Shee, the linen bedskirt is very similar to the headboard. It was either all white or something very similar to the headboard. This is an old pic, but it shows a little of what's across from the bed. Also, a closeup of the headboard which is from Nate Berkus via HSN in Sandstone.

Due to the symmetry of the cathedral ceiling and the ceiling fan, I can see why you have it centered along that wall. What is on the opposite wall? If you were to take the bed off center, perhaps if you were to paint your ceiling at say 50% of the wall color it would draw less attention to it than it does now, painted white.

Did you take any pics of how it looked in front of the window? Would it be possible to create a cozy seating area on the other side of the room from where you could view the TV or is it impt. to be able to view the TV from the bed? Your room looks so large that I think it would work better with two separate areas to it--perhaps even adding another smaller area rug beside the bed and using the one you bought to ground a sitting area; or grooming area, with vanity for you, valet for your DH. I can only *wish* I had so much space to play with, though I see how it does present a challenge to decorate.

I was just in TM yesterday, they had a pretty green one like your brown one. And a terracotta colored one on hold for someone.

Just from the one pix you posted, I see that the dresser/tv is sitting in a little niche area. Is that wide enough for the bed? I think it would be amazing to place it there, paint the inside of the niche a darker shade of the wall color. It would certainly ground the bed and increase the cozy feel.

I am not a fan of beds in front of the window, in part because it can be tough to open the window, it can limit how you can use the window if the weather is a bit wet or chilly. I also think the window area is the perfect place for your seating idea, with the rug to ground the space. A couple of comfy chairs and a table between them, maybe a small bookshelf on one end wall.

Having the dresser on the wall where the bed is now would open up a possibility to add another case goods piece as a companion to the dresser, maybe a taller chest.

Put the tv on the taller piece on a turntable type stand, so that you could rotate it to be seen from the bed and the seating. Down the line perhaps a small, wall-mounted flat screen will work for you.

Les, that niche is too small to accomodate the nightstands too or else I would have the bed there. I would rather the bed be across from the entrance than on the same wall as the door, but that's what I have to do I guess. I will take a few more pics so you can see more of a 360 view I hope. I do have a tall chest on a smaller wall. In the meantime, I mwas in Target last night and it all started with the pillows! There is no gray in my rug, but I was wondering how these colors would look. The silk pillows are a gray, tan, cream color. The smaller pillow shares the same color scheme. As I was walking around I saw the gray wuilt and then finally the duvet with the gray stripe. It looked so nice together but not sure if my rug would be out of place? The colors are richer IRL. I may go to target today and bring them home to see how it looks.

I just did a side by side comparision of the rug with bedding and the bedding reads cooler to my eye. You say it's richer IRL... I'm sure that wasn't much help!

May be a crazy idea, but if you'd like the bed on the niche side, why not have the bed float in front of it just enough that the nightstands don't need to be in the niche but on the wall on either side? Then I can see doing something dramatic with the space inside the niche with molding, fabric, paint or wallpaper.
I guess you'd need to move your cable outlet, though.

I'm back! There are three pillows, two are the same silk stripe, the other a chenille lumbar stripe. I wouldn't use them together, just brought them home for comparison. I unfolded the dark gray quilt at the bottom. The two shams with the silvery blue border are mine. The darker duvet is still folded in the square. Didn't feel like going to the trouble of unfolding and folding. So here is everything!
Keep in mind, once again the flash changes everything.
The quilt is a dark charcoal looking gray.

How much too narrow is the niche?

I think Alex's idea about the nightstands being on the side walls is one idea.

The other thought would be to use one nightstand as a table between the two chairs in your sitting area. Use the other on the long wall with the dresser, as the place for the TV. That would let you have the dresser top clear for lamps, a large mirror or art above the dresser, etc.

Then mount a couple of small shelves on the sides of the niche, to serve as your nightstands. Wall mount plug-in wall lamps on the back wall of the niche, after you paint the back wall and side walls of the niche in a deeper color to really show off the bed.

I like the new bedding,and it seems to work very well with your headboard. I wouldn't worry about matching the rug - as long as they compliment each other, it works, and gives the room more interest and depth. Besides, I still would love to see you use it in the seating area, so for sure it won't be right next to the bedding.

If you go with the bedding, think of a wall color that has a blue-grey tone, tho I would still want it to be a bit more blue than grey.

I like the bedding with the pillows (even though you say you wouldn't use them together) and with the rug and your existing stuff!

Love the texture of the lumbar pillow and I like how the darker stripes look with the quilt.

I wouldn't use them together because of the different stripes. Can't put them all together. I do love the colors with the quilt and it picks up the blue in the rug and the tan of the headboard. It looks bluer in the pic than IRL. The first set of pics was taken in the store with the lovely fluorescent lighting which made them very blah gray looking. I'm thinking I can use my original silver blue bordered duvet and shams instead of the darker gray in the target/fieldcrest duvet. I don't think it will make that much of a difference. They do have the darker gray shams like the quilt, but I would rather euro size and they only have standard size. My pillows and shams are king size. Also, there are solid darker tan pillows that also go very well. Essentially, Target's Home collection does a very good job of coordinating all their pillows, bedding, throws, sheets and duvets. You can mix and match a hundred different ways.
As promised, here are the pics if the rest of the room taken from all corners. As you can see, the niche is one sided with the window on the left. Ideally, a flat screen could be placed to the right of the dresser on the wall "outside" the niche, where I can add some chairs and a table. Swivel chairs would be ideal!

One thing I would change is how the curtains are hung. Using the moulding on the end window as a guide, place the rod about halfway between the crown and the window moulding. Then lengthen the rod so that the inner edge of the drape hangs at the outer edge of the window. I probably wouldn't use the tie-backs and let them hang.
Probably means new drapes, though, huh?

It is a little funky with all the angles! Once I get nthe wall color nailed down, I'll look at new drapes. I was thinking maybe something in ivory although TM did have lined and interlined silk in a beautiful platinum color. If you look at the window in the first set carefully, you will see the curtain panel on the left is hung from the header section and the panel on the right has the ruffle on top. I was toying with the length. From the top of the window trim to the floor is "84. If I hang 96" length drapes I would have to move the rod up and hang it from the trim piece. I guess that would be ok. Not sure how to address that. That rod was the longest I could find at 8', so that is what I used. Also the window to the left of the niche has the wall on the left, so I could only go out so far. I am assuming I would have to use the same width on both windows. For now, I need to address paint I think and I have gotten blue gray as a direction. I was wondering about something like Putnam Ivory, Monroe Bisque?

I did notice the different lengths in the one pic. I assumed you were testing :) You would definitely not need to have the same length rod on all the windows, although the height they are hung should be similar. As far as 84" vs 96"...you may need to get something that is hemmed easily so you can customize it to your situation.

Good luck on paint. You have a lot of options, so it depends on how you want your bedroom to feel and how the light reacts to the color. I would tend to NOT use a color that is in the bedding like the grays and blues because I like warmer tones in the bedroom. Creams and light golds look really pretty with gray and blue.

Alex, that is the way I was envisioning the room, in cream and golds instead of the blues and grays. The silk pillows were great inspiration for me because of the warm tones mixed with the cooler ones. The room is on the darker side for most of the day so I would rather a color to warm it up. As you can see, the SW Ecru that I have now goes very green. It has always bothered me. In bright light it is much lighter and you don't see the green. I want the room to feel lighter. Of course I need to add more light to the other side of the room with a lamp on the dresser. If I could only put in a pretty chandelier in place of the 90's ceiling fan. *sigh*

I feel your ceiling fan pain. We have one instead of a pretty fixture, but we NEED it so there is no changing. In the summer I have both ceiling and a table fan going because our room is so hot in our Gulf Coast summers.

The Laura Ashley Pale Golds are pretty, maybe sample the light end, too.
