Recent Wolf 30" and 36" ranges - problems/like?

We are thinking of getting a wolf 30" or 36" range. Would like to save money so thinking about the all- gas model but not sure. Reliability and lack of bothersome surprises are also very important to us. We would like to hear from those who own or owned these ranges, purchased within the last year or two only, whether you have had any major problems, whether it has been reliable, whether you would recommend it. We read some postings about mysteriously hot panels an hour after turning off the oven, and difficult to clean tops. Curious if these are still problems and whether they exist on the all gas as well as the DF models. We are also wondering if the small burner in the middle has actually (not in theory) caused burning/hotspots. We love the look so if it is reliable, we will get (yes we are aware of the limitations of sealed burners and are aware that there are other ranges with higher btu burners). Also, if any clear preference between the all gas and DF. . . Thanks!

We got a Wolf 30" gas cooktop which we installed in August. It's been great. My DH loves wok cooking on the big burner. It's easy to clean.

We have had no issues but it isn't even a year yet so not a long time.

We also have a 36" cooktop, not a range. We did have a problem with one of the burners within a few months of installing it, but the Wolf repair guy came right out and fixed it under the warranty. We love it. In fact, it was the one part of our kitchen remodel that really had my DH drooling, LOL.

First, a warning -- I have never lived in a house that needed make-up air. Not even close. Double-pane glass makes little sense for us since all the heat goes around the sashes in our Victorian. My experience with MUA is related to commercial systems. What follows is an opinion about the kinds of things that would make me consider MUA. Unless you have a Code requirement for make-up air, you have a fireplace you use when cooking (I seem to remember that you are South Bay?), have a "naturally" vented gas appliance in "connected space" (no always-closed doors between the hood and the appliance), or have a "tight" house (recent, energy-efficient construction, most likely), I would skip MUA. Even if you do need MUA, the difference in the maximum hood flow probably wouldn't significantly influence the the cost of the MUA system, which I would think was primarily labor driven. If not significantly more expensive, and you can run at least an 8" duct (preferably a 10"), I'd go with 900 CFM for two reasons: * You have it when you need it -- guests over, and the kitchen fills with smoke... * A 900 CFM blower at 600 CFM may be noticeably quieter than a 600 CFM blower at 600 CFM The 24" will serve you well. Thank you all for the additional information. The main problem I'm having is I have to decide ASAP since the cabinetmaker will not start until I nail this down - he's supposed to start Monday and we're already 8 days behind schedule. The original plan was the Viking+Electrolux, and wiring has been done already. My original original plan was a cooktop + double ovens, but that didn't work out since there was no other place for the MW. So it was suggested to put the second oven under the cooktop. I convinced myself this was better in case either broke, I could replace each easier/cheaper - this may not be true. A couple days ago I thought, why not a Wolf range (since I was revisiting the whole thing) --- but with them being so expensive, and having to redo electrical --- I thought maybe it's easier just to go with the original plan. I'm glad you sent the info on the Bertazzoni since it looks like that cooktop would actually work with my oven -- I was worried I'd be limited since the Wolf cooktop plus some others will NOT work above the Electrolux oven. So I do have some options there if I need to replace.... Thanks again!

We have had the 36" Blue Star range (model RCS36SB) for about 5 years and would not recommend it. The knobs get very warm and we have had problems with the convection fan as well as ignition (gas would build up in the oven while it failed to ignite), both problems required multiple service visits The latest problem, the oven knob broke off and Bluestar said they no longer manufacture the part. Bluestar said they changed from a mechanical thermostat to an electronic thermostat and the ”upgrade” would cost $350 to purchase, not including installation (total cost estimated at least $500). I assume they redeigned the oven knob/thermostat because they had so many problems with the knob, convection and ignition. Even though it was under warranty and the knob broke due to faulty design, the service manager refused to provide a replacement part. I guess you can expect problems to occur with any appliance, but I do not expect them to provide such poor service, especially when they know it broke due to their own design flaw. It takes them days to follow up on service questions. Best to stay away from Blue Star.

Do you use a griddle now? I would consider an overlay griddle instead of a built in. The one I have(Royal industries)is 15”x23” and is about 50% bigger than a 2 burner built in. I have a Wolf range. It can be bigger because it is made of heavy aluminum which has much better heat transfer properties than steel so heats more evenly. It comes in bare aluminum which seasons over time and nonstick. With a built in you have about half of the power, somewhere around 15K BTUs. You can set the griddle anywhere you want or you have the flexibility of using all six burners. I have picked up my griddle and put it in the oven. You can take it to the sink to clean. These are Royal Industry overlays. They are pretty inexpensive. http://royalindustriesinc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_22_48 Chef King makes a similar griddle out of steel. With the built in, you have a thermostat so you can repeatedly turn it in to a certain temperature and get that amount of heat. If you go this way, look how the different brands are built. Wolf uses an infrared burner to get a more even heat. The steel is twice as thick as BlueStar. BlueStar uses this burner on the RNB griddle. Thermador uses an aluminum griddle and an electric element.

I've had the soon-to-be-discontinued open burner, all gas 30" for a week and a half, so too soon to know about problems or long range reliability. I bought now because I prefer a more open burner pattern.

I roasted a turkey and made gravy the other night and held the gravy on the super teeny middle burner without any problems with burning or scorching or a hot spot.

The door is definitely warm in places (particularly behind the handle area), but I had been purposely running my hand over the door wanting to see if it was really hot (I too had read about the same problems you are mentioning, and my husband thought I was nuts to do this). It certainly doesn't stay hot for an hour though.

We replaced an old dual fuel Jennair with much less power than this one, and our kitchen definitely seems warmer now than before because of the venting of the Wolf's non self-cleaning oven (we had self-clean and electric oven before). But, we also don't have any ventilation hooked up yet.

So far the top has cleaned up quite easily. The turkey had spattered as it roasted, and my husband wiped out the inside of the range, including taking out the side rack supports so he just had a clean swipe to do. He said it wasn't too bad cleaning it up, but he can see how keeping on top of this is the way to operate so it won't get too bad. And, LOL, this is the first time in forty years of marriage he has ever cleaned an oven!
