LA News Reporter Having Speech Problems

I am sure you have seen the reporter that had a problem with her speech while reporting at the Grammy's(?). Anyway, the first time I saw that, I immediately thought she was having a complex migraine aura. Why? Because I have had those where I couldn't speak and my fingers to arm to shoulder to side of face would go numb. I had my first one at 7, and we were eating supper of Torsk and chocolate milk. That is all I ate, as I was a VERY picky eater. One of the triggers is from too rich foods. (duh lol)

I rarely get a full blown migraine anymore...thank God and preventative meds and always have meds on hand to take at the beginning on one coming on. It is so scary when you try to say something and you can't say it!

I am NOT saying if something like this happens to you, it is 'just' a migraine!!! Don't take chances. I just wanted to state that 'I was right'! LOL =)

sure was scary..her mom was the one to get her the docs the next day...apparently she had something like that herself...will be glad when she can get back to work...

i heard she is now doing a food diary...

I have seen clips of her and what happened to her. You could see on her face that she knew something was wrong and was trying to get through the report. then I saw an interview of her and she said she knew whar she wanted to say, but strange words came out. I too am glad she was getting some help.

Sandy in Ia, that must be a strange feeling when that complex migraine hits, and how scary. Thankfully you can control it some with meds.

I keep hearing Bosch DW leave wet plastics. Is anyone aware you can adjust the drying on these units with programing? Mine has a 0 or 1 setting. The 1 setting is super hot drying. My dishes come out hot to the touch as would a regular element drying machine. Almost too hot to handle for the kids. Plastics are bone dry.

Well I tried Chrome previously and can't remember exactly why, but I ended up deleting it completely. I just downloaded it again, and unless I'm missing something, don't see that it is anything I want to use. How do you bookmark things anyway? It sure looks stripped down. I don't even know what version I got. There are no things up at the top like with other browsers...ie file, edit, bookmarks, tools, help. I'm lost and unless it is something quite simple that I am missing, I'm over it once again. I don't see anything great about it, at least not yet. Urlee, I'm glad you are happy to have the ads gone. of course everyone would like a quick fix but nadine01 is right the only way to really lose the flab and tighten those muscles is healthy eating and exercise and it will take time you didnt get flabby over night and you aint gonna be toned over night either believe me i know i was very small in highschool a size 3 but after high school i got married had babies (4 of em in 5 years lol) my youngest in now 11 and im just now getting back in shape part due to the fact that i hate to exercise and i love to eat but i am getting real close to 40 and i have decided to change for me for once just me so i have been eating right, exercising with weights and doing a lot of walking and learning to drink water until about 6 months ago i had not drank a full glass of water since i was a kid i hate the taste of it, still do but i manage to choke it down in 6 months i have lost 40 lbs and 6 inches off my waist :) my goal is a size 5

Although I don't know anything about your son's situation except that his language has not developed by that age, I also recommend for your son's hearing to be tested and language development evaluated if not done already. Then you will have a starting point. I am also a teacher of the deaf and I am Deaf. I was very fortunate to have parents who started me in a good program for the deaf right away after finding out about my deafness at the age of 2. They also started learning sign language to communicate with me. All of that helped me greatly with my language development compared to many deaf people who are still struggling with English. Now my son is also deaf, I have already began working on his language development so he will have the same advantage as I had.

I never heard of a complex migraine until this news story came out. Must be frightening! I've had a couple of ocular migraines (I think that's what they're called), where you see kaleidoscope-like patterns, and that was scary enough until I found out what they were.

I've had 3 of them. During the 2nd one my friends saw something was wrong and I was trying to cover up a problem. I was embarrassed that I wasn't making sense. They were asking test questions of me and I couldn't even tell them what my name was.

This happens to my son also. The numbness was a side effect I had never heard about from friends who had migraines.

I hope the point was made in the media that if this should happen one should make sure it isn't a stroke, first and foremost. It's amazing how much the symptoms of this kind of a migraine mimic a stroke.

Poor lady - I saw the interview about what happened.

As sjerin says, the first thing to do is make sure the person did not have a stroke.

Three years ago my GF had a full blown stroke. The moment I recognized the symptoms I called 911 and had her taken to the emergency room.

When we got to the hospital the doctor wanted to know the exact time when the symptoms first presented. I told him it had been about 40minutes and he said,,Thats great! And off he went.

About an hour later he came and told me that there are at least 7 different conditions that present the same symptoms as a stroke, however if it is a real stroke they have an injection that must be started within 4 hours of the onset or it will not work. If they have the time to give you that injection you will be up on your feet again within about 4 to 8 hrs with little to no side effects, if not, your looking at months of rehab and probably a permanent parallisys.

The doctor told me, even if you have very strong reason to believe your condition is a result of one of the other problems get to an emergency room immediately. It is far better to have a doctor tell you that it is another problem that is not nearly as critical as a stroke than it is to ignore the symptoms and hope it will get better on its own, only to find out you ran past the 4 hour window and have to resort to steroids and rehab for months.
