Opera problems-color of theads that have new replies not changing

Now I remember why I gave up on Opera the last time, long ago. There is a problem with the threads 'not' changing colors, though there are new replies.

Additionally, some threads have new replies that have not been read, yet the link color reflects them as having been read.

Is anyone able to use Opera with GW and have the thread link colors correct? I'm have Windows XP and am using Opera 11.

Help please...Opera is quite zippy for me, so I hesitate to dump it again if there is a possibility of getting the problem solved.

I rarely use Opera, but I just gave it a try; version 11. It worked fine.

Two thoughts:

Are you signed in when you surf here and have this concern,

Do you have your Opera cookies set to something other than default?

hmmm...so when I reply to this thread, it will show that it has a new reply (when using Opera)?

Remember I am having 2 different issues with the thread link colors...
There is a problem with the threads 'not' changing colors, though there are new replies.

When I have read them, they change color just fine.

Yes.

Do you have your Opera cookies set to something other than default?
Well, I am not sure what or how to actually set to default, or if I have even made any cookie changes.
When I go to Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Cookies-- I have only one check and that is Accept cookies only from the site I visit

Should I make any changes maybe?

Dawn, I received a report this evening. I'm puzzled. Not for sure if it was for the first two or all four. She says there is no disease issues and I need to quit spraying copper/daconil. Don't feel she paid attention to the part where I said I had septoria issues and also TSWV but didn't send them in as I can diagnose them. She kept repeating you don't have TSWV. I sent an email stating the plant that has it I didn't send. She says it is stress only and they will recover. I know better than that. When I sent the second plant I debated which one to send. The one I didn't send I pulled last night. It had shriveled up to where it was a foot shorter and the fruit was starting to shrivel. The roots look fine and the soil was very moist. I have left some in the past to try to ripen fruit. If it gets to breaker stage and you pick it and let it ripen inside it will be bitter. I have never seen stress affect plants in this fashion. I also had 3-4 plants that exhibited the same symptoms last fall from mid Sept to frost after the cooldown. So I'm puzzled and not sure what to think. Like I told her in the reply. I will continue to pull them as I've found even if they live 3-4 weeks they never grow again even if it is cool and the fruit from them isn't fit to eat. I yank them and plant squash in their place. At least I get some good from the water I'm using. So basically I don't know anything. I know for sure the last plant had wilt. It was completely wilted at 6 am last Sat morning when it was in the 60's. Again the soil was very moist and it had a great root system. I had the wilt hit two more plants. The one in a container was toast in 3 days. When I pulled it one morning even the stem was limp. Being that I've started I will continue to spray Daconil/copper till at least Sept and maybe for most of the season. I've been trimming leaves. It takes at least 30 minutes a plant. I feel the reason I had septoria was we did have over and inch of rain during that time. Also I had the sweet corn on the south side and our winds quit for several days. And the plants were 6 ft or taller with lots of foliage and canopy. One evening when picking fruit I noticed it was like a sauna in there. I think the combination caused the issue. Being that I've cut the corn down and it hasn't rained and i've been spraying the issue is under control for now. I plan to remove all dead and diseased looking foliage although it is a very slow process. It is just on the caged rows. They were the early plants. I've trimmed up either 4 or 5 plants in 4 evenings. I do everything else first. Will get out early this weekend and try to get several done. Have at least 20 plants to go. This evening I finished up a Prudence Purple from George's seed. It is setting fruit good now. And then moved to the Cowlick''s Brandywine. Knock on wood it has considerable fruit set. One reason I won't quit spraying. I hope I can taste a few this year and save some seeds. I'm guessing maybe 20 or more. From tinies to some around 2-3 ounces. Due to the heat I have some malformed fruits. Mule had some pictures on his site of some he has picked. I have some real oddballs. The one Grandma Suzy's plant that shows heat stress has several with big scars on the bottoms. The other GS's plant so far knock on wood hasn't shown any stress issues. It is at least 2 ft taller and I haven't noticed any problems on the fruit on it. But it is fast proving to be a good setter here. Hopefully both plants will last through the season. Both plants are fairly well loaded. So the fruit set on the Cowlick's was the good news I needed after finding out they didn't find the reason the plants decline and eventaully die. I just never heard of stress causing a change in the color of the top leaves and stems to a light yellow and the blooms all die. Some very small fruit set drops off. The leaves usually never curl till later as the light yellow color works it's way to the bottom of the plant. As it goes down then the stems and leaves curl. She said the one almost looked like herbicide drift. I guess that is possible but why not all the plants in an area and whyt does it continue to happen 1-2 plants a week or so sometimes several feet a part for most of the season? May never know the cause. If it continues I will send plants elsewhere to get a second opinion. Jay

Pooh, I had the same problem a year ago, and posted at Computer Help. It seems there were others there who were having the same trouble with Opera 9.01. Some members went back to version 8.52. that link scanner has been a big problem in AVG at various times, I would try doing as one person suggested and disable that link scanner from AVG and see if that works. AVG in their FAQ in fact tells how to install AVG with out the link scanner since it causes so many problems. Frequently Asked Questions this is the reply I am referring to by ripling "I tracked my particular problem to AVG 9 , specifically the AVG Active Surf-Shield in their LinkScanner, I unticked that & all has been fine since apart from not having that particular component of AVG available to use." Of course you can always try reverting back to an earlier version of Firefox which it seems many there have done and it seems to go back to normal. do you have the no script add on in your firefox by chance? I see in some threads there may be an issue with it causing a similar problem, however the most recent update of no script supposedly fixes it. from over on BBR I found this comment "tool>options>security uncheck block reported attack sites and block reported web forgeries. restart firefox and see if that helps" There is a new release candidate of firefox that you can give a try if you want to do that, see if it makes any difference new Firefox! seems to be a problem many are trying to find a cure for and none I have seen is the end all be all fix, some things work for some not for others. Those are so difficult to dig out the root cause.

Today GW has been slow to load. In fact one thread never did load so had to go back to the list of threads and try a different thread altogether. So far today, the ad has not gone crazy covering the words. Hopefully the powers that be have mastered this problem. Like so many of you, I sense a shift in the people who post here and the GW atmosphere. I've only been around for 1 and 1/2 years, but I agree with Breezy that it seems that many of the long time members who posted a lot when I first found GW are not frequenting the site. This makes me sad. It is selfish on my part, but I had hoped that they would be around to help with my kitchen layout for our reno. They really give valuable insight! I have marveled at their skill and also their generosity of time spent helping others. So Breezy, Rhome, Marcolo, and so many more of you talented people please don't leave GW. Persons like me really need and appreciate your advice. You are Godsends to those of us who are floundering in this remodel maze!

Sue, this is exactly the reason I gave up on Opera and use Chrome as my default browser. I love Opera except for the problem here at GW with the threads not going back to blue when a new post is added. I really don't know what the answer is, but if you find out, please post the solution.

Well on Nov 21st, 2010, a member posted on that forum link I posted, "Used to work in 10.54 but not since then."

I wonder if I would delete Opera 11 and then go get Opera 10.54 if the links would maybe work. I wonder if it would download my existing bookmarks.

I don't recall the links working in any of the recent versions. A couple of years ago they did work. But I guess it's worth a try with v.10.54.

Well when I click on that link above (for v 10.54) it then goes to Opera 11. I don't think it is even possible to install an older version. I have already removed Opera 11 for now.

I did however post to the existing thread at The Opera Forum.

Hey Sue, if you want Opera 10.54 here is a link to download it.

On the right side on the window are all of the Opera versions. Above the versions is the download button. The download is 12.52mb.

Maybe I've had too much egg nog the last few days and I am not reading this thread correctly, but I just went to this thread using Opera for the first time since this morning when I posted (8:43 a.m.). The thread shows read as does several others that I took a look at then. The "Return to the Computer Help Forum" on the very bottom of the page" shows I have visited the forum.

DA, what Sue and I are complaining about is that the thread will not revert to blue after a new post has been added to the thread. Therefore, it appears that there is nothing new in the thread because it is now red (read). Other browsers allow the thread to go back to blue (unread) when a new post has been added to a thread. Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

Well I deleted 11 off again yesterday and installed 10.54 and then no pages would open...sigh. I then deleted that off and installed Opera 11 again. I'll keep it installed but probably won't use it much, due to the link color problems, and since most of my on-line surfin' is here at GW.

Sue, That is the same reason I stopped using Opera on my desktop after I installed it a few years back but now that the new one is much better, I like it enough to put up with the none color changing as long as it does OK on other forums I frequent.
So happy you started me on the ad blocker.
Thanks again! Boo to FF for not being as good as Opera. "LOL"

Sue, I use Chrome almost exclusively now. I have AdBlockPlus and several other ad-ons that prevent the ads. Thread colors change the way they should, and Chrome is fast. I have it set to update automatically, so I always have the latest release version.

I just came back here to check and was SOOOOOO HAPPY to see NO ads or problem other than the color issue with Opera as described above so I am a happy camper.

grandms, I had my eye on Chrome but shied away cause of something I read about a privacy issue of it being Google etc. etc. that I am sure you must have heard how they talk? Don't mean to sway people away from it but makes me uncomfortable and talk like that is said of gmail too and I still have accounts from them.
I may just try that one at a later date.

Well I tried Chrome previously and can't remember exactly why, but I ended up deleting it completely.

I just downloaded it again, and unless I'm missing something, don't see that it is anything I want to use.

How do you bookmark things anyway? It sure looks stripped down. I don't even know what version I got. There are no things up at the top like with other browsers...ie file, edit, bookmarks, tools, help. I'm lost and unless it is something quite simple that I am missing, I'm over it once again. I don't see anything great about it, at least not yet.

Urlee, I'm glad you are happy to have the ads gone. I also downloaded WOT (Web of Trust) for Opera also, as I missed it after having it on Firefox.

Boy, that is putting it mildly. I thought I was just at a Google search page.

One feature of Google Chrome is the ability to bookmark and store your favorite websites.
One feature? I doubt if that'll be enough to make me an avid Chrome user.

Thanks for the link zep. I have saved it to my Computer Folder in Opera bookmarks for possible use sometime later.

If you really want to try chrome out you have to look at the options. Click on the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner and look at the options. After you click on the wrench click on 'Tools' and look around there. I turned on the bookmarks toolbar there and it works just like in firefox. Then click on 'Options' and check out all three tabs. On the 'Personal Stuff' tab import your browsing data from firefox.
Chrome is a complete browser and it is fast.

I could NOT get that program to work with IE on here (Win7 64 bit) but it sure works with Opera! Opera scores again!Ã¢ÂÂº

I am having so much fun with Opera, I don't mind coming back here now that it works great with Opera in more ways than one.

What I wanted to mention which I haven't tried is, do you think the color change would work if Opera was made the Default browser or do you have it as Default and it still doesn't work on the color situation?
Just a thought.

My opologies to FireFox!
I UNinstalled it and DL'd over and installed new from scratch.
After I watched the video Zep516 posted for me to follow the steps to adblock/easylist filter, ALL is WELL!
NO ads and I can log in and POST a reply here. YIPPEE, I have two great browsers to play with now. (smiles)

Wonderful!

I've been reading of all the complaints over at another forum here at GW. I urge, as always, that they come here to get help with the troublesome ads...I don't know why they won't come and ask for help...makes no sense to me to be bothered by them and expect GW to not advertise in order to keep the site free to us. I wonder if they are computer challenged or something or afraid to post for fear of getting geeky replies.

Oh...setting Opera as default browser didn't help the thread colors...sigh...but at least it is zippy.
