Need help with Foyer Chandelier.....

Hello,

I finally found a beautiful chandelier for my foyer and am wondering if the size is appropriate for my space. My foyer is open to the second floor with a vaulted ceiling. The ceiling at the highest point is probably l8', however, where the chandelier will be hung, because of the vault and staircase...is 14'. After doing the math...I will have 2.8' of chain from the ceiling and 8' feet off the floor. The chandelier is 38" h x 39" w....my foyer floor space is about 15'x15'. I'm thinking that the size of the fixture should be good. I tried to link to the fixture, but, couldn't figure out how to do it. I know the formula for hanging a chandelier and I am going alittle bigger, however, I'm thinking because this space is so open...I can get away with it.

Any thoughts?? I could use the input.

Barbara, do you know how to copy and paste? If so, go to the website where the light is, copy the URL, then in your reply paste it in the "Optional Link URL: box. In the Name of Link box write Chandelier. The link should show up.

Hi Barbara, your foyer sounds very similar to what I have~two-story open to the foyer. I chose a lantern style, 36" x 36", but can't remember what the chain length is,looks to be about 3 1/2'. My foyer space is 10' x 17', so a little longer, but narrower. The light fixture doesn't look to be over or under scale. IMO, you're right in line with the size you've chosen. ;o)

Your foyer sounds exactly like mine, actually, yours might be a touch larger. I currently have a huge fixture in that space. I believe the original owners chose it to fill the large window, and fill it does! We call it the big brass spider. I'm struggling with getting rid of it because its a gorgeus real brass fixture (and priced at $3k new on Progress Lighting website), but I feel its far too large. It has 3 tiers, 21 lights total and trips the breaker if I have it on and try to vacuum the hall. Now, my fixture is 48 inches wide, and it is far too large. But I think 36 would work for me, and I think from what your describing, my foyer is slightly smaller than yours. Here is a link that might be useful: The big Brass Spider

Thanks for the budget. With no constraints, I seem to gravitate toward $2500+ multi-pendant fixtures for foyers. Not a comfortable budget for most people (including me). Let me know if these are too modern for you. We need help deciding on what type of chandelier for our tall sloped ceiling and what to hang on the walls of our foyer. You can see the chandelier from the foyer. It needs to provide enough light but not be too “fancy“ for my husband or too bulky because we want it to not interfere with the view from the foyer through to the back yard. Our plan: -foyer railings stained darker -walls painted in both rooms after the new fixture is installed. It’s a very neutral color now. -possibly have foyer cabinet painted or grey washed -add something above doors? Above wooden flag? -change doors? -change what is on top of foyer cabinet Any suggestions are appreciated. Sorry I can’t figure out how to unedit some of the pictures that were marked up. And our youngest kiddo likes to play with boxes of tissues so that last pic has tissues all over. :)

Ok let me start out by saying you do not need a huge fixture there, or a chandelier, In fact, your options would open way up if you started looking more at entry fixtures. This one is kind of plunked if you will, in no man's land. The only good view of it is at the landing area, otherwise, you are looking at bulbs from the top. Or you would have to crank your neck from the bottom to even look at it. If you change the entry fixture, you should also change the landing fixture. I would consider putting a recessed light in the landing or a semi-flush, this way there is only one "star of the show." Also, you would be better off to look at oil rubbed bronze over black as it will lend itself to more paint finishes. satin nickel (imo) is rather dated builders look for an entry. I see a chandelier in your dining area there that would be a good jumping off point for you. I'm not saying dont hang a chandelier, but if you have searched the entire internet..maybe a little gear shift wouldn't hurt

I like the look of a larger chandy in a two-story entry. Just checked the length of mine and it's 41".

Do you have a window there, too?

Thanks for all the help with the size of the chandelier...I'm also thinking that alittle bigger is better than smaller. I just needed to hear it from someone else other than my husband!!

I've also done the link thing so I'm hoping that it works. If not, it's a Varaluz product and the collection is Soho. I'm interested in the 9 light fixture.

My foyer does not have a window...one less issue to deal with. The other thing is getting an electrician over to change out the box and hang the thing. My husband is not handy!!

It is just wonderful and so interesting looking, I like to see you taking a chance on something a little different, most are so typical foyer styles. I love it.

That is a truly unique and wonderful light fixture. Definitely would want that on the big side so that people can appreciate it.
