Living with no bedroom dressers & what goes over the bed?
Comments (15)Oh goodness, if you don't need the dressers, get rid of them, because to you they're just useless clutter and very large clutter at that! It seems to be all the rage to have all your clothing storage in massive closets with built-in drawers and no freestanding dressers at all, especially where the other furniture you've chosen is very sleek and modern in feel it makes sense to continue to streamline the room further. If you were on the other end of the spectrum, with Victorian antiques and a higher "fuss factor", it might be more likely to look like something is missing if you didn't have a dresser. My thought for the wall is a scattering of small, unframed (but perhaps beveled), simple round mirrors, just for some sparkle but not big enough to actually reflect anything you don't want reflected - if ya know what I mean. ;-) You can get the mirrors inexpensively at a crafts store or through eBay. Say, a mixture of 2", 3", and 4" ones. Think stars in the night sky, or moonlight rippling on the water, not disco ball. ;-) A little sparkle, a little roundness, but still keeping that clean, modern feel. If I may make an unsolicited suggestion (my feelings will not be hurt one bit if you tell me to stuff it where the sun don't shine :-)) the countryish white chair in the corner is throwing me off a little bit - it's kind of like you have the "black modern side of the room" and the "white traditional side of the room". Is there any way that the white chair could be switched for a black one, maybe a little severer in style (to riff off that great bed), or that one painted black if it can't be changed out? Since you're an Ikea shopper, I think there are a couple of chairs on their website that would echo the lines of that pretty bed really well: Roger (recover the seat in blue - perfect! this one's my favorite), Stefan, maybe Norvald. The room is coming together into a really snazzy one, though!...See MoreBedroom Dresser/Mirror before and after
Comments (9)Instead of centering the dresser on the long wall, move it to the left. The mirror and lamps are nice updates. That will open up the corner and allow you to place a small bench or blanket chest to the right of the dresser, and stack the two pieces of art above it, one over the other. A chair instead of the bench/chest would be nice, too....See MoreOversize Bedroom dresser
Comments (7)Have you looked at Stuart David furniture? They do not have franchised outlets; they are sold in good quality furniture stores. Their styles are fairly simple, nothing over-designed or very embellished. We have an SD mule chest (just learned that term here; thanks, Les!) in DH's study - it holds a lot of "stuff". It's made of alder, with a soft pine finish. We also have a perfectly-sized computer armoire in our LR, in alder, with a walnut finish. I turned to SD for this because I wanted an armoire with pocket doors, which this one has. On the other side of the LR we have a large console that sort of matches the armoire, but placed in such a way that it doesn't look matchy-matchy. Their furniture is made-to-order. You select the wood, the finish (stain or paint), and such details as hardware, carving, etc. I love them! They have had pieces for difficult areas in the house, and the quality is very good. Comments (6)I love my Durham Furniture in the Royal Cottage white sand finish but I wish I bought two Junior Chests to put side by side rather than the double dresser. The bottom two drawers are so deep and high that they really are only good for sheets and blankets. This leaves me hardly any drawer space. The chest of drawers is the best and even two of them would have given me more drawer space. It is only 36" wide, 52" tall and 18" deep but so much better than that double dresser in storage. I tried putting storage boxes under my bed but most of the containers bothered my allergies with outgassing. I really would like a place to put all my socks since I wear a lot and wear two to bed. I like the skinny drawer idea for separating colors and type of sock. My bedroom has a little hallway in between two walls where within the hallway is two tiny walk-in closets that I had to take the doors off of so one big door would not shut off the other side. I have my business suits and clothes in one and my jeans and tops and bathrobes in the other. So when you walk in the room, the wall on the right is split in the middle with the hallway. One one side of the split next to the wall is the Chest of Drawers. The other wall currently has white plastic drawers that look awful and I want to replace it with furniture that will blend with what I have. I have a lot of sweaters and now I wish I did not buy so many. I also have a lot of summer pajamas since I am going through the change and need to change the pair sometimes twice a night. My nightstand is a Wesley Allen Metal 18" round table with no drawers to allow space for the Chest of Drawers facing my bed. There is a wall next to my open door that is 23.5" wide and I am always putting a plastic set of drawers there that looks awful but I need something there anyway to put the humidifier on in the winter time. Hence, the idea for a Lingerie chest of drawers. Now I am wondering if I can live with the less costly and less stylish piece that is shorter at 49.5" tall and only 19" wide and 17" deep that has 5 drawers. I love the way the cottage Lingerie chest looks but it is tall at 58.5" and I can't use the top drawer without stopping on a step stool since I am not quite 5 feet tall. Or maybe the 29.5" high night stand that has three drawers that is 21.5 wide and 17" deep would look OK there or will it look funny since it is a nightstand? I know... I need to take pictures. My new computer would not let me install the Sony Software that is outdated. I need to call Sony up. I can always turn on my old computer (kept crashing my tax software) that I have not used to download pictures and then save them to a flash drive to install on my new PC. Maybe that is what I should do. I will try to take some pictures. I need to figure out how to install my camera on my new 64-bit computer. Thanks for replying. I just really want more drawer space from a nice piece of furniture that will not outgas causing me allergies as I sleep....See MoreRelated Professionals
