My son's barn wedding

It was a wonderful day however the weather did not cooperate so they had to get married inside.

Only one incident. After the reception everyone had left and the brides mother and I were packing up food that was left and the cake. My son packed up the remaining beverages and several of the young people were going to the bar. DH and I went to our hotel, it was too late and we are too old for that stuff. When my son asked his friends were his bride (Alisha) was they said she had gone ahead with other friends to the bar, so he left. When he arrived at the bar, he asked were is Alisha and they said she isn't here. Just then his phone rang, and it was the bartender and she said, "Well you got your food and your booze but you left your bride here". There was Alisha the last person left at the reception." LOL what a way to start a marriage.

Sounds and looks like a lovely event.

Choosing the bar over the bride should be saved for year #7 at least! LOL

Son had a large wedding and reception but because it was in the afternoon, no dancing. But if we did have a song it would be Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me." His small high school graduating class sang that to the parents then they gave the mom's a rose. Talk about crying! DIL knows what a close knit family we are and she loves how close I am to my son's. Now that she's a mother of a son she really understands the special bond between son and mother which is not like the old saying goes, "A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daugther is a daughter for the rest of her life." Heck, I still get onto my children! I'll always remember Barbara Bush speaking about Jr., "Just because he's the President doesn't mean he can put his feet on my coffee table!" lol

Thanks to all for the well wishes. The wedding was beautiful although the weather was not. They made the decision to bring the wedding inside at about 4:00 yesterday. The weather looked like rain and they didn't want to chance it. I will learn how to post pictures tonight or tomorrow. Really tired right now. Only one incident happened. Ha Everyone was leaving around 11:00 and the bride went over to the small building where she had dressed. She had a little too much to drink and thought she would lay down for a minute. In the mean time, my son was told that she had left to go to the bar where they were all going next. So he loaded his vehicle up with the unused beverages and the brides mother and I took the cake and some remaining food and we went to the hotel where we were staying. Well we learned this morning that when my son got to the bar, his lovely new bride wasn't there. Just then, his phone rang and it was the bartender and she said, "Well you got all the alcohol and food, but guess what, your bride is still here". There she was the last person there besides the bartender. Oh boy what a way to start a marriage. LOL

I think it is an absolutely charming idea. I would love to see a wedding like that. I don't know your dad, of course, but if you choose just to have your son escort you, I would be surprised if your dad were upset and saw it as any kind of disrespect. If you are old enough to have a son in the military, you are of an age at which I would think most women wouldn't be having their fathers walk them down the aisle anyway -- especially not for a second wedding. In fact, if I were your father, I would prefer it -- because I would want to SEE your son walking you down the aisle. Congratulations on your wedding, and good luck to your son in Iraq.

I don't know if the OP is still reading this string, but I think that we are getting off her point. She didn't ask how to do a wedding inexpensively. She didn't ask for opinions on whether spending money for "just one day" is silly or worth it. She didn't give any indication that she felt that the budget was too much, either as a matter of principle or with regard to her own finances. Here is what she DID say: My problem with this is that one, they are way too young to be getting married, and two, he is not able to support himself (due to debts he has accumulated)let alone a wife. He has acknowledged his unwise money choices but has yet to take action to fix these problem areas. ... Should we help pay for a wedding that we really don't support ...? We want to still have a relationship with our son and finance but... I feel like my husband and I are in a no win situation. Her question was not how to economize. It was whether, given that she feels they are not mature enough or prepared to get married right now, it would be wrong for her to agree to pay for the wedding. The dollar figure wasn't the issue (for all we know, pecan is a bazillionaire who would be happy to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a wedding --IF she approved of the marriage), it was the message of approval and endorsement for what she understandably considers an unwise move on her son's part. I doubt she would feel any different if they came to her with a budget of $500. What would make her feel good is if they came to her and said they had decided to wait until they are older and financially stable. Pecan, how are you doing with this dilemma?

Thanks for all the nice compliments. It was a wonderful time and my new daughter-in-law is a gem.

Wow, that is a beautiful place to hold a wedding! First thought that came to my mind was "OMG, he looks just like his mom!" Very handsome young man, beautiful bride, and I love, love, love her dress!

It was a beautiful setting. I only wish I would have taken the picture of the reception area after the tables were decorated. There were wine bottles with two white fresh calalilly's, with a few leaves and moss around the base. There was a narrow orange ribbon around the neck of the bottles. They were beautiful.

I never took a picture after they were decorated. LOL

Your son does look just like you and the bride is beautiful. I do like the details on her dress, if I were your son I'd have been sure I took her home, LOL.

Annie, They wanted the cake to be very simple but the frosting was not smooth and it looked like a top hat. So Alisha's mother and I put some fresh flowers on it. It helped a little.

How beautiful everyone and everything looks. I do like the looks of the cake with the flowers on it. Love the bodice of the bride's gown. Someone was right - they will have beautiful children, just as you did.

Karen, where the heck is that barn? What a cute idea! I love, love, love your dress, and the bride's dress is also gorgeous. Your son is indeed handsome. It looks like a perfect wedding to me, and I think your fresh flowers on the cake made it very pretty, but it would have been too plain without them. Good thinking on your part. Wow! You must be letting your hair down now. Two weddings about 6 weeks apart! That would challenge most of us! Brave, strong woman you are! Let's get together for lunch soon.

Beautiful couple, beautiful mother of the groom and beautifully-romantic setting.

The bride is carrying Calla Lilies, which are the same flowers my daughter has already requested for her wedding...someday.

Sherry, The barn is in Watervliet Michigan. A couple from Chicago bought two old barns and renovated them into wedding barns. They have one called the "Blue Dress Barn" but I don't know the name of this one. You can see them on the internet. Millcreek Barns is the name so I think it's probably millcreekbarns.com if anyone wants to take a peek.

In an earlier post I said that their Boston Terrier was in the wedding. Our oldest grand daughter walked her down the isle. She had an orange flower on her collar. I didn't get a picture nor did the photographer. She couldn't get it focused because Tenna was jumping around so much after she saw my son at the end of the isle. LOL I hope someone got a picture and if so I will post. She is their baby, at least until they have babies!!
