Which sink, wainscot, vanity, or other combo option do you like?
Comments (16)Thanks: Michoumonster, I'm with you on the usefulness of the side counter, thats why I am liking the side sink. Mydreamhome, I like symmetry too, but I sort of like the intersection of the listello into the side of the soapstone backsplash. I want this to look like a console instead of a cabinet installed. Andreadeg, thanks for your vote, I bet you like symmetry too :) Treasuretheday, yes, I have 2 single scones in chrome and bathroom quality on order: Sweeby, the drawers will be very small on the center vanity. I'm guessing 4" wide. They might work if they were the box type without the drawer glides, but I really don't know how cabinets are made. So, since I am not a fan of "useless" I am steering away from the centered design. Inmc, just for you I have updated the centered cabinet without the backsplash. But for our house it won't work. Also as I mention above, I want this to look like a console instead of a base cabinet installed. I am trying to make this a beautiful spa like farm bath - heard of those? ;) What this means is that I can take a lovely soaking bath from time to time AND my family can still wash their tractor greasy, livestocky hands in the sink AND guest can use it. I don't think the marble listello will hold up to all those uses, while the soapstone should be prefect for this use. For Inmc (and I put a human in there for scale):...See MoreWould you do a carrara marble backsplash over pedestal sink?
Comments (1)Personally I think I mini backsplash over a pedestal sink would look strange. The only way I think it would work would be in the case of tile, where you did it around the room as a wainscotting kind of application, which then went a little higher than the sink to act as a backsplash. Just my opinion though. I say do what you like! You're the only one who needs to love it....See MorePedestal sink vs. vanity cab - ladies, where do you store...
Comments (10)OMG, I can't believe they make a special recessed cabinet for plungers! Anyway, something like that would actually work really well. I'm not sure how much recessed storage I'll be able to have, though, because I have no idea what's in my walls. As you can see, the current medicine cabinet over the sink and that hamper are recessed, but that's partially because the lower half of the walls are built out with cement, and that's being torn out in the remodel. Perhaps that Hy-dit would fit in the old hamper space... Gscience, I agree with you that non-recessed cabs can make the place look smaller. I'd like to recess a cab in the spot where the blond wood cab is not - if I can't, I may just put a mirror there. I'm also planning a much larger medicine cabinet over the sink - don't know if I'll be able to recess it, so I guess I'll wait to buy anything until my contractor starts tearing things up... Anyway, thanks for the ideas, ladies - keep 'em coming!!!!!...See MoreInstalling pedestal sink basin on vanity counter top question
Comments (12)Thanks. I don't comment on fixtures often, but I do have to say I think the Memoirs is a lovely sink. The sink itself is large, the wide rim I absolutely love, and it has a good-sized bowl. It is indeed a nice sink. We had the same feelings over the backsplash. We went back and forth between painted wood or teak. I thought the teak backsplash would make the Memoirs pop more due to contrast, but my wife didn't want too much wood grain in the room. So we did painted wood which I topped with a teak cap. If my wife ever did want teak, I told her I'd simply glue a teak veneer over the painted wood. It's still painted. That run of cabinetry changed a couple of times during the design process. It was originally going to be a spacious 2-sink vanity. My wife really insisted on one sink! So that freed up space for the floor-to-ceiling storage closet on the left and what we call the "toilet pantry" on the right. The design has worked quite well for us over the years, I built it around 15 years ago. My daughter, who was 7 or 8 years old at the time, designed the profile for the toe kick cutouts. That was quite a bit of fun "working" with her. If you go in another direction, no worries. Choose what works best for you....See Morenewdawn1895
