TV Over Fireplace: Please Show Me How You Designed Yours, Thanks!
Comments (23)I would not do it. It puts unnecessary strain on your neck or forces people to lie back like the dead and it's hard enough to teach my kids to not slouch. You might not think the neck thing matters but we all get old .. if we're lucky. It also makes me feel like I'm in a bar, an airport, or a bad restaurant. Sorry, if that offends anyone, it's how I feel and so far all of my clients have agreed without needing any persuasion. But that doesn't mean it's wrong to do it. Only the owner's family needs to like it. To me it's just not that difficult to put the TV to one side with the great adjustable brackets now available. The proper height of a TV is easy to determine, just sit on a couch, look straight ahead, and have someone measure the point you feel comfortable looking at. Perhaps take an average of your family members. If I had to do it, I would at least put the fireplace box tight to the floor, the mantel low, and be able to enclose the TV when not in use. These things are not pretty. It would also help to recess it and tip it downward for better viewing and less reflected light. I was in an Italian restaurant in the 60's called Charlie's that had multiple gas fireplaces recessed into the wall above seated head height. Would that work?...See MoreShow me your bedroom TV
Comments (1)Ours is not a flat panel, so it is on a wall-mounted tv holder (yes, I know, lots of people hate those because they scream hotel or hospital room). It sits in the far corner of the room, so it is pretty unobtrusive, but it is a great solution for us. No wasted floor space, and no furniture jammed closely together to accomodate the TV in the only spot it could be. Younger DS also has his older style tv on a wall mount, and loves it. He can see the tv from his bed or his reading chair, or turn it slightly and see it from his desk. Older DS is at university, but has a small entertainment center in his room here with a 13 inch tv in it, running parallel to the bed....See MoreLindybarts -- Can you tell me about your wall mount TV?
Comments (9)ROFL...love the reference to hubby's girlfriend! We built this house so we had the electrician put in the "tube" as he called it for the wires behind the wall. They just come out from the set and feed down the wall inside the tube to the outlet behind the dresser. The components were a sore spot for us as we struggled with what kind of dresser to buy and if we could somehow hide them but we ended up loving this RH dresser and just put them on stop. It doesn't look too awful although I would have prefered them hidden. I'll see if I can find any construction photos of the tube or wires behind....I don't know if I took any of them? Comments (5)Here is ours. We wanted the boxes out of the way of DS. When he is older, we will put them on the shelves of the "farm table"...See Morechris11895
