Upgrading sleeper mechanism on Lee/CB sofa
Comments (0)I have a Crate and Barrel Bayside sleeper sofa made by Lee industries. It's at least 10-15 years old and has seen very light use as we were overseas and had it in storage for at least 1/2 that time. It's an incredibly comfortable sofa and in near new condition with wonderfully supportive cushions. The sleeper sofa part however is horrific and pretty much alway has been. If there's 2 people sleeping, you alway roll to the center and even though the sleeper wasn't used often, the original mattress is puny and uncomfortable. I would be ashamed to have guests sleep on it and we're getting too old to be sleeping in a sling. We now live in a smaller place and having a comfortable sleeper sofa in our office/guest room has become a necessity. My parents splurged on an American Leather sleeper which we found to be fabulous, but very pricey. I'm wondering if it would be less expensive to try to "upgrade" my sofa instead with a new mattress and perhaps a sturdier mechanism/frame. Options for a new mattress include: CBs replacement integrated coil mattress with air topper (although I've read about some issues with "air failures" with these mattresses), foam mattress options from places like PlushBeds.com, replacement-mattress.com and Legget and Platt (the makers of some sofa bed mechanisms). I see that I can also buy complete sofa bed mechanisms and wonder if a sturdier, more supportive frame exists that would turn this pigs ear into a silk purse or if I should bail on this couch and invest in the American Leather. We're pretty handy and could probably pull off replacing the mechanism, but I'd be looking for a home run as far as better support. Has anyone tried any of these upgraded mattress options or has experience with sleeper mechanism quality and support? If I did both, it would be under $1000 compared to the expense of a new America Leather sofa. Plus my sofa is just so darned comfortable! Any advice?...See Moredaybed or sleeper sofa
Comments (32)I prefer futons. I have a very nice futon with a memory foam mattress that lays flat and people comment all the time how comfortable it is to sit on and sleep on. I tried out daybeds and looked at pull out sofas but the futon was the most comfortable. I have a flex room or the game room as we call it where the futon is housed we use it when I have more guests than guest bedrooms. I have found people downstairs in the flex room who were watching tv sound asleep. When I ask them what they are doing they say that darn futon is so comfortable it gets you every time. I can't find the exact one I have but this one is very similar. Mine folds down into a full queen size and the mattress is very thick. https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Somette-Ali-Phonics-Multi-flex-Espresso-Full-size-Wood-Frame-with-Bonded-Leather-Innerspring-Mattress-Futon-Set/8365989/product.html?refccid=GKG6BYEIEWAIRESI3TSU44Z2CY&searchidx=3...See MoreISO: compact but comfortable sleeper sofa...
Comments (3)Check out The Sofa Bed Store, you'll get a great mattress and they come apart to fit up stairs. Avoid Ikea if you want it to be comfortable and last, go with Ikea if you need something temporary in my opinion (when in budget of course). I have their most compact model and it arrived in a few boxes, wasn't horrible to assemble (and this meant I could choose what would fit the room, not what would fit my condo's elevator!) I have the Stretch, but they have others that will fit https://www.usa.thesofabedstore.com/collections/the-entire-line-up...See MoreErika sofa sleeper vs American Leather Comfort Sleeper
Comments (0)Does anyone have any experience with Erika sofa sleepers or American Leather Comfort Sleepers? I'm looking for both a comfortable bed for guests and a comfortable sofa to sit on. I'd love to know your ideas or if you know of other brands I should consider....See Moresusan209
