Dear NYC LOVER, When I read your original posting asking for advice on a sleeper sofa/chaise I was happy to see it was the exact same thing I am looking for- style, size and everything! It's funny because I actually just came home from Jensen Lewis where I found the Cadet by Cerrito. It is the one I like the best, but it is just so expensive. I saw one at Macy's- Portofino by Max Home for only $1200. It seems comfortable and has a great flip-flop chaise so you can switch sides, but I am scared of the quality and I can't find much information about it online. I wonder why some couches are close to $4000 and others are only around $1000. I am very curious to know why you chose the Tyler by Carter. Did you see it at Jensen Lewis? I looked at it online and love the look, but what are the dimensions? I couldn't tell from the website. It seems like it might be 117" with the chaise. I can't go over 110." Also, you mentioned you saved $1000 over retail. How? Do you know if it is possible to find the Cerrito sofa online for less? I must decide soon if I should just buy the Cerrito or keep looking. There are a number of manufacturers that manufacture on a component level basis,ie; the arms are bolted or screwed on to the seat/back during manufacturing. But this is only during manufacturing and was not designed for disassembling at the consumer level. Manufacturers will not honor a warranty when the consumer tries to disassemble. Many things can go wrong. A standard prong T-nut is most common connection at the base, which can easily be strip-out or pushed out of the frame. This would have to repaired by a professional or returned to factory. Their will other connections made at various other points along the frame which can be very difficult to see or access without removing the outside back or outside arm. I dont think this is a good recommendation to make. However their are some RTA upholstery available, most are cheap and very poor quality, not recommended at all. Some others that have very limited styling or choices, more expensive, offer a poor value compared to standard fully assembled sofas. I dont know of any that offer RTA or KD in a standard sleeper, because just about impossible to engineer and manufacture. Now you can buy futons that is RTA, but not always a good choice for most people. Best to measure twice and buy once.

Have no experience with Romano..did sleep on an American Leather one as a guest, for two nights..that was the best sleeper sofa I ever slept on (not including great sleeper sofas that are unfolding, futon-like.They used to make very good ones. Some still do, just gets very expensive) The sofa itself looked okay..the quality of mattress hiding inside, that what was impressive. I'm a light sleeper who often gets cold, and this, and that..in short I do remember good mattresses))

The American Leather unit has the same mechanism as the Taylor King and Hancock & Moore sleep sofas, and its stout and solid. The problem with this frame design common to all three of those brands is 1) they are extremely heavy (appx 370 lb) 2) the front arm comes forward to the frame. This results in a every difficult delivery as the unit cannot be taken apart into components. You need a wide doorway to get it into the house (35" minimum) and due to the weight its not going up or down any stairways. While these sleep good as a bed and sit well as a sofa, they are pricey and half our delivery attempts fail with them because of where our clients want us to place the unit. Great sofa if you don't mind spending $ 3K to $ 4K on a unit and its a straight, wide door shot into your room. Go to my Facebook page and scroll down to the April 20th post. Hooker furniture is doing the most innovative leather sleep sofa I've seen in a very long time, it's made in Italy and reasonably priced. You will see photos of the Loveseat size, the Queen is a bit longer. This has quickly become a top seller in my store. Plus (this is my favorite feature) the arms slide up and off the piece, allowing the delivery team to get it into homes and rooms where often they cannot go otherwise. Pretty cool sleeper.
