Survivor tonight! And let's talk about last week....

Last week was a good beginning, didn't you think? I was cracking up when they first were making assumptions about each other without even having spoken to each other, the girls were being nice about the guys and the guys were being jerks about the girls. That was completely backwards of what I actually expected to happen. Usually girls are cattier.

"What's a pace?" OMG. Seriously, Sandy doesn't know what a pace is? I was mortified.

I think she did well in not getting voted off first, after all, but she's got a tough row to hoe ahead of her. She better figure out what a pace is and get her idol, if it's not already too late. Lucky for her, Carolina annoyed the rest of the tribe more than Sandy did. And Sandy did great building that staircase in the challenge.

The girl with the strep throat, I felt bad for her but I think her team is pretty impressed with her now. I hope they don't vote her out too soon, I like her.

The self-proclaimed "Renaissance" man, Coach, cracked me up. Give me the strong, silent type of man any day, not one who blows his own horn all the time. I think it'll be a good season of Survivor!

I liked Sandy. She's pretty funny. I was getting a kick out of her trying to figure out what a pace is. She was taking those itty bitty steps!!

Carlina was annoying so I'm glad she's gone. I hope to see more of the other tribe tonight.

Carolina was annoying, but Sandy was driving me nuts. Her facial expressions, and all ... and then being such a slouch in getting the campsite ready. I don't think that was too smart of her! The idol is only good if you're smart enough to play it before the votes are counted. What she has in her favor right now, at least, is that the others aren't aware there's an idol to be found. I don't know how long she can keep it quiet, tho.

I also was impressed by Strep Throat girl. She readied the site, PLUS worked hard in the challenge. I think her team is accepting her.

OK, I guess I should answer Terry. I have yet to make the short trip out to visit him and take some white cucs and my favorite tomatoes. :) Terry, I have to say that I really still like my Beefsteak and Bush Beefsteak. I didn't seem to enjoy the orange and yellow ones as much this year; too sweet. Lemon Boy being an exception to that. Cherokee Purple was awesome and I did enjoy the huge Don's tomato. Still have about 6 left on the vines. Super Sweet was "super sweet" and I wasn't crazy about Poseidon or Silvery Fir Tree. Husky Red was delish and so was Oxheart. Of the orange ones I liked Feuerwerk. I have at least 2 toasted tomato sandwiches every day with salt and mayo. :) The best! I have yet to stew any tomaotes to freeze as I have been giving them all away! Took about 10 toms and 6 white cucs to my doctor yesterday and she asked me if I expected her to share them with the staff. Lol! I told her she could keep them all to herself if she wanted. :) Dogs are fed and I am off to make my third tomato sandwich for the day. :)Picked another 3 pails full this morning so am off to deliver vegies tomorrow. :) Ginny

I usually harvested my Golden Spice about the third week of September here in our short-season mountain valley in western Montana. When a lot of them began falling off the tree, I knew they were ready. Of course, they may be ready sooner where you are at. I put them in a cool, dark room and let them ripen up a bit more (wouldn't have had enough room in the fridge). Then I would test by just eating one-- though the skin has a bit of a bitter taste, when they are ripe, the meat has a wonderful sweet, and some would say sort of spicy, taste. I used most of mine in a juice blend with apples. Sadly, after 25 years, between fireblight and severe winter injury (problems I hadn't had before), my beautiful large Golden Spice tree was devastated. I cut out a lot of dead and infected branches, and am hoping it will bounce back, but right now, it is just a pathetic-looking shell of its former self. No pears this year. :(

I fell in love with some pulls in a picture of a Goop pop up store in NYC last Dec. Couldn't find them anywhere and then suddenly, there they were on the Waterworks kitchen web site. Hooray!...until I looked at the price...$238 EACH! I had no idea one could spend that much on pulls and I sure wasn't - I needed 32 pulls. Insanity! I found some gorgeous ones on Look in the Attic. They're hand forged, polished, non- lacquered solid brass and we're just under $10 each. Now that's more my speed!

I'm not much of a flower guy anymore. We have a few hydrangeas, a hybrid peony, a few poppies and one bed that comes from seeds of what was there the last few years. Sort of a 'Surprise Package'. This year is thick with various sprouts and some sunflowers from feeding the birds last winter. I saw a couple of tractors connected to corn planters, stuck in the fields last week. A wide variety of soil types in this area. Some fields are so sandy, you can get 3" of rain and within an hour or two, be out there plowing again. With the more clay soils, it could be days or weeks of drying weather before you'd get going again. Farming can be a tough business to be in weatherwise. The latest tree I have for pushing leaves is my northern hackberry, Celtis o. It finally leafed out several days ago after a 2", two-day rain. Every year it appears dead but now I know better.

I was crackin up at Sandy, not knowing what a pace was.....i figured everyone knew what that was. I am afraid if she doesnt figure it out though, she will be next to go.
I dont know how that girl with Strep throat can stand being out in those hot conditions.

What was hilarious, too, is that she didn't know what a PALM TREE was! She was looking at a twig of a tree! I tivo it and cut through all the commercials. I've seen every one of them since they started!

I really hope Sandy gets voted off, I cannot stand her, she is so annoying!
