I am right there with you. I got my Kindle in November and have purchased exactly 2 books, but I have more than 900 books on it right now. And I have a couple of hundred more that I have collected but haven't loaded yet. I won't live long enough to read them all, but it sure is fun having all those choices.

I was just looking at a e-reader last night, trying to make up my mind about getting one. The prices of books are really high, unless I am looking in the wrong place. I usually pick up (at least) two paperbacks at Costco every month in the under 6 $ range (sometimes the larger ones) and trade when we are traveling. My hands cannot hold hard cover books and some of those 'publisher' size I really have to want to read or I pass them by for size alone. Still looking and contemplating.

Well, I'm a hoarder, but of the paper variety books. I cannot pass up a book sale, I get books as gifts, our library has a sale four times a year, etc. etc. I don't think I'll ever get an e-reader.....I love the feel of paper, I guess.

I buy loads of books and magazines. But I've found great places to recycle them- a local charity has set up a book drop in a shopping center prking lot. Magazines get left either in the hospital waiting room or laundromat.The guy who works at the laundromat came over and thanked me for leaving magazines.

Heather-- No, you arn't the only one. Count me in. I'm addicted to my Kindle and to free books. I can't help it. I do actually read them though. It's my drug of choice, download free books, enough of them so that I can breathe easier.

Oh, I can't see a problem here... LOL, cause after all, you have only 1 Kindle! LOL

Now, if you had that many hard copy books.... that would constitute a problem.

Yes, we have over 3,000 hardbacks. We read, a lot, and collect specific authors. Yeah, we probably could sell some but that's a lot of work.

Do you guys not delete your books after you've read them? I go through several in a week, I'm addicted!!

I only delete the books I don't enjoy. I love rereading books and have one collection labelled books to be reread.

Heather, you're not alone and you are in very good company. I'm right here in the middle of it, too.

I have an iPod. Have I mentioned (at least 1,000,000 times) how much I love, use, need, appreciate, rely on, and love my iPod??? Of the 149 Apps I have in it, one of them is the Kindle Reader App. I can download all the free books and I can buy Kindle books for it too. It does most everything a seperate Kindle would, but I can't get the voice enhanced books.

I subscribed to Pixel Ink (notifies folks about new free ebooks) after reading about it here.

I don't know how many Kindle books I have in the iPod but it's well over 100. I have that many more in iTunes free downloads, and then about 150 audio books that I've paid for. Oh I love my iPod...and reading is just a small part of why I have it.

I also have way-too-many "real" books. But that's for another thread.

I used to be a book hoarder with hard copies. DH and I had more than one argument over books. Surprisingly, though, since I have had my kindle I've been very careful to only download books that I -really- want to read so I don't feel like that's hoarding. I'm quite proud of myself, actually. :)

I would love to have a library room in the house. All books, a comfy reading couch, and a warm blanket!

Heather, you are NOT alone, but most of mine are paper back. And I re-read a lot of them! I got my Kindle Fire for Christmas. Most of what I have, I bought. I haven't found many of the historical romance free. And I have favorite authors. In fact, I will eventually re-buy some of the collections I have in paper back for the KF. I love my "real" books, but I love my KF too. I can prop it in my lap with the cover as an easel when my hands hurt and not have to hold it.

Caroline, I also have all of the books on the Kindle on my iPod and iPad. They get synced constantly. I read the Kindle when I am outside in the sun, but my favourite device to read a book just happens to be my iPod too. The one nice thing about the Kindle is that it allows me to sort the books into collections or folders. When I want to read a book of a certain genre, I just go there to see what title to choose. Unfortunately the Kindle doesn't show the cover of the books so I look to the iPod and iPad to see covers. I wish the Kindle App for those devices would have a way of sorting the books into collections too.

I only have about 200 on my kindle, but I am trying hard to get rid of all the paperbacks in my bookshelves. I got tired of books stacked around everywhere.

Yes, I delete books from my Kindle after I've read them. I rarely re-read a book. There are just too many un-read ones waiting for me, so why would I want to read a book twice?

When I first got my Kindle I downloaded EVERY free book I found out about. I'm a little more discerning now, but not much. After all, if I don't like it I don't feel bad at all about deleting it, since I didn't pay for it.

And our library is getting into the swing of things and I can check out ebooks from them, too.

I love my non-E books, every one of them and have a very hard time getting rid of any, but because of limited space I find I have to donate to the library thrift shop on a regular basis, in order to make room for more. But there are many "keepers" which line my walls and will always retain their place there. I find myself looking at them all lined up on the shelves, and remembering certain feelings I have experienced while reading them.

I love the smell, heft, and feel of a book. Also, and very importantly, I can share that book with others.

My husband wanted to buy me a kindle for christmas and I said noooooo I have too many hard copy books I have not read yet. He said that is the point, maybe we could get into the guests bedrooms. Nooo, I said, I want to keep my books, what if the kindle malfunctioned and I lost all my books that I downloaded? Anyway he bought himself a kindle, but he did not get rid of his hardcopy books..but seriously Could that possibly happen, you loose your downloaded copy of books on kindle? I have over 521 books that have been catagorized, so far that have been counted and catagorized. That was several years ago. We have built in book shelves in both guest rooms for mine and my husbands books, plus the books our children left behind...if we both bought a kindle a piece do you think someone would be interested in these books? or just good for kindling? Who would you suggest we call?

All books are kept on your file/account with Amazon. The ones you get from them anyway. Every one I have on my Kindle is from Amazon.
My experiences with hardcover books is you will never regain the cost of them. Unless of course you have an extremely rare copy.

Unless you fully delete the book from Amazon, you just archive it once you have finished with it if you want and then you just download it again when you want it again. The only way you would lose your books maybe entirely is if Amazon ceased to exist. I have my books stored on my Kindle, my iPod and iPad and I don't imagine all of the devices would go to cyber heaven all at once. I could transfer the files to my PC as well but that would be overkill.

Thank you, Nodakgal, heather...good to know. I wasn't planning on selling them, but that is a thought. I am not sure what my grown kids want to do with old college text books, old novels, etc. None of my books are that rare. Some are from the 1970's though, and on up. Boy, this is going to be a job!! When my husband and I first got married we did not own a t.v. for 7 or 8 years. So guess what we did. LOL
