I'm still an amateur at this. Hopefully these are good enough until someone better at it comes along.

What color is your counter/backsplash?

To be honest with you.....I think your cabs are very pretty without being painted. I have so been where you are!! I was not loving my cabs at all - had a faux painter come out - got the estimate (my cabs were barely 3yrs) & was shocked!! 2 of my previous houses had creamy kit cabs & I wasn't used to wood colored cabs & I didn't get to pick them out.

I would love to see a shot of your full kitchen. Maybe what you need is a new paint color on the walls - deeper - richer or if beachy is more your style - then a great blue or soft mossy green.

I would do other things first before painting your cabinets. They look fine to me. Maybe a little polish and new hardware will perk them up. Consider painting the cabinet base around the floor black or charcoal. It looks great with stainless/black appliances and medium wood cabinets like yours. I'm a huge fan of painted cabinets and furniture; but in your kitchen I just don't think you need to go there. I suggest taking smaller steps first, then see how you feel about the need to paint the cabinets. I agree also that a another wall color might help the look of the cabinets.

Linnea, my counter is Santa Cecilia Light and the backsplash is from DalTile, it's a very pale taupe matte finish tile.

Scoobyruby & Annie, I'd be the first person to admit there is nothing wrong with these cabinets. However, for the past ten years, I've had cherry cabinets and these are similar in color being that they are maple with a cherry stain. I really have "painted cabinet envy" and every time I see a beautiful kitchen with ivory cabinets, I drool....my poor keyboard has taken a beating ;) I found beautiful hardware in a black wrought iron finish that is just what I wanted. I am also planning on painting the walls after the cabinets are painted, either in a dark taupe or mossy green. My kitchen is situated in the center of the first floor and only receives indirect sunlight. That's another reason why I'd like them done in a light paint, to brighten up the kitchen. As it is, it's just too dark for me.
