I've had my Cuisinart for many years and I still love it. I would replace it with another Cuisinart if the old one ever 'gave up the ghost'!

I have a 11 cup KA that is about ten years old...it has been over used and very abused. The bowl is starting to crack and I'll replace the whole thing in the near future. I had a Cuisinart before this one and it was great also. I would compare between both for the features you will use. I think both makes are fine.

The comments that you see about any of them leaking are from over filling the bowl. I learned about that many years ago... don't over fill with liquid.

I have a 7 cup 24 year old Cuisinart....and I just replaced the lid and the feeder tube.
It does doughs containing up to 4 1/2 cups of flour, chops, purees, slices, shreds and mixes.
I have bought one just like ti for both of my kids and for the church...I can't keep house without it!!
Oh yeah....if you shop well and have a coupon you can find one for under $100.

lindac, what sort of coupon do you mean, like a coupon code to buy on-line or a store coupon for $10 off any purchase? I'm not sure where I'd find a Cuisinart coupon?

I bought one at Kohl's with a 20% off coupon...was on "special" for $100...minus 20%....and plus tax...$88!!
Coupon came in the mail with their monthly flier.

Thank you for answering me so quickly! I thought that might be the type coupon you were referring to. Have you found the 7 cup to be too small for certain jobs? It looks great but I'm wondering if that's big enough? I'll have to go and check my old one and see how big it is.

What will you be doing? It's big enough for 2 loaves of french bread... the crust for a 2 crust pie, a batch of hummous using one can of beans, a batch of of pesto using 2 cups of basil, grating a pound of cheese. I have to shred a large head of cabbage in 3 or 4 batches, empty the already shredded cabbage into a bowl and then shred more.
It will slice a pound of carrots without emptying and 3 medium sized onion.
If you are going to grind meat for ham or chicken salad or liver for liver pate, you will have to do it in fairly small batches and empty often....but it works well.

Thanks again! I just went and looked at my old one. It's from 1978 BTW...HAAHAA! I still have the manual which doesn't say anywhere what size it is. So I poured it with water to it's fill line and it's only less than 5 cups. OK so 7 cups is plenty! Here I was thinking I needed some huge 14 cups! HA!

I had a 7 cup Cuisinart that was as old as Linda's. The white body had gone yellow and it developed cracks in the bowl, so I replaced it with a 9 cup. Two people here, but I do use the larger size to make bread, shred veggies, etc. It was probably just me, but the 7 cup seemed over full with the 4.5 cups of flour, and the 9 cup gave me some breathing space. I do bow to Linda, who uses her fp much more than I do. As the fall approaches, I know it will be much easier to make sweet and sour braised red cabbage with this lovely machine!

After a few less than great food processors, bought myself the base model Cuisinart several years ago... close to $100. Was instantly amazed in the difference of power for others in the $40-50 range... ya get what ya pay for, they say. Money WELL spent!

THEN I find one at a THRIFT STORE, of all places, for $8! Just HADDA buy it. Thought was extra bowl and ALL the blades. Well, it ended up being a step UP from what I had... slightly bigger and more powerful.

My vote is for Cuisinart!

I saw a Cuisinart whisk attachment on ebay...have you used one of those? Seemed like it would be great for whipped cream or egg whites.

I have a whisk for my Cuisinart hand mixer. Don't need one for the food processor. The hand mixer is plenty powerful and I've used it a lot. My Kitchenaid stand mixer is nearly in retirement because the Cuisinart is so strong!

The new Cuisinart processors are awesome. They have been listening to the consumers and changing the problems processors have. Gaskets around the rim to stop leaking, locking blades so they don't fall out when you empty the bowl, larger function button pads, etc. I would definitely get a Cuisinart. NancyLouise

I have an ancient Cuisinart DLC7PRO and am trying to decide whether to buy replacement parts or buy a new food processor.

Does anyone have a favorite replacement parts site? Ones I have looked at say that replacement parts don't reliably fit the older units because they were not standardized from year to year even though the model number stayed the same.

Do the old slicing/shredding discs fit the newer units? I know the fps some with more discs now than they used to, but I have some extras that it would be nice to hold onto.

Does anyone have any additional thoughts about capacity, Kitchen Aid vs. Cuisinart, etc.?

I am another who has a Cuisinart and loves it. I got mine at Macy's when they had their 30% off sale. I have the Pro Custom 11 I think it is called. It does everything I need it too.

I have a 12 cup KA 700 watt and wouldn't want anything smaller although I do have an electric "Oscar" chopper I use all the time, for like one onion or so.

It works great and I would buy the same again. But I have never had a Cuisinart- I bought the KA to match my mixer.

UPDATE:

I did end up buying a Cuisinart from Macy's one day sale a while back. I got an 11 cup and I'm glad I got the bigger one. It was less than $100 too! They had a great sale! I've used it a couple times and I really do like it. I used it to make a batch of those Neiman Marcus CC cookies and made pretty much the whole batch in the FP except for the end where you add the CCs. I love the DVD that came with it. It made it look very easy and showed the basics of FP usage. Then I bought an OLD Cuisinart cookbook and it's very informative!

I see you got the same food processor from Cuisinart that I'm thinking of getting.I've been looking at them in the stores here the 11cup .One thing I did notice is that the plastic container is real hard to unlock to get it off.You actually have to hit the handle hard to unlock it.Clicking it back on is no problem,but getting it off is hard.Do you have that problem? I read that some other members are having the same problem.
