Sweet cherries?

I've got about 2 cups of pitted, chopped sweet cherries to use up. Suggestions? And NOT scones (my Mom hates them for some odd reason!)

I love sweet cherries but nobody else at home does. The last time I bought some cherries and I couldn't eat them fast enough, I juiced them with some red grapes to make 100% juice. I then put some kefir grains into it and let it ferment. The final product tasted almost like some very mild sweet wine. If you don't have kefir grains, the juice was pretty nice too.

Have you tried that summer torte recipe yet? I made it with cherries. Yummy.

I am in Zone 5 and my nanking cherry blooms before the other sweet cherries and I see no overlape for pollination. Anyway you have a good combo on your cherry tree.

Cherry can certainly be rooted, but you should be aware there is a reason cherry is almost always grafted onto rootstock. A cherry (and this goes for many different types of fruit trees like apples and pears also) growing on its own roots can grow to be quite big, and will take a long time before it begins fruiting. There's a reason that it's called a "cherry picker". Because in older times very big cherry trees were common and you would need a cherry picker crane to be able to go up there and harvest them all. If you want a cherry tree that will grow to be the size of an oak tree (and cherry trees are pretty fast growing trees in the right climate), then go ahead. Have you seen the cherry tree in Owen Rose Garden? That's in the neighborhood of what you're asking for if you grow these rooted cuttings. (Eugene, Oregon) If you want to be able to harvest cherries in 3 to 4 years, you might consider grafting them onto the appropriate rootstock. Otherwise you're looking at 8 years. And the tree will be pretty big by the time it begins fruiting. Rootstock creates a degree of incompatibility which restricts growth and diverts the tree's energy towards fruit production earlier on in its lifespan. (This is true of sweet cherry, other cherry species may not naturally grow as big)

Thank you for the replies! I really don't care if the cherries are sour or sweet -- what I liked is that the bush was small, very prolific, and had full-size cherries (easier to pit). I grow Evans cherry and the fruit is small! I wonder though, if that bush produced an edible cherry then why didn't any people, birds, or squirrels eat the fruit?! Are some cherries non-edible?! The cherries on this bush were definitely large and dark -- they looked just like what's commercially available here as dark sweet cherries.

I also made the summer torte with sweet cherries, and I topped it with some black forest syrup that was supposed to be black forest jam, chocolate and sweet cherries. It was amazing...

I made the Summer Torte with sweet cherries, too.
It was a little TOO sweet for my tastes.
Thought it needed something with a little 'zing' along with the cherries. Maybe a couple of tart plums or something like that.
We all have different tastes, don't we!
Sweet cherries are very good in smoothies.
I don't have any recipes for smoothies, just use whatever I have on hand.
Yogurt keeps the smoothie from being overly sweet when using dark cherries.

Rusty, some frozen sweet cherries in the blender with some plain homemade yogurt makes an awesome smoothie/shake!
