I LOVE paperbackswap.com! Just last week I received 2 of 10 books in a series I ordered. The cost of shipping most books is less than $2.50. And each book you ship to another member earns you a credit to use for to receive another book (you have to use 2 credits for audiobooks). Basically, that means that you are buying a used book for $2.50, and sharing your already read books with other readers. It's called recycling, LOL.

You can print the postage right from their website and put the books out for your postal carrier to pick up. You never have to leave the house if you don't want to. It's your choice, of course. You can choose to print only the wrapper or the wrapper with postage. You can use PayPal to load your account with a dollar amount you choose to use toward that end.

I signed up to do that, but when I go to the Half Price Books in the Dallas area, I can get almost anything I want for $1. The library in my daughter's town (Midlothian, TX) has a sale going all the time and theirs are 25c. Plus, I love going to the library, so I just never got into that. I get e-mails from them, and I know they're there if there's something I really want and can't find, b/c I have stacks of paperbacks I'd love to share. The whole idea is great. I do know a few people who do it.

I enjoy paperbackswap.com. I think it is fun to mail a book to someone who will enjoy it and I enjoy the books I order.

Donna Loomis-I can print postage from my house?? Sounds great. Do I need to have Paypal to do that(I don't right now and would prefer not too)?

Vannie-I normally go to the library or hit book sales for cheaper too, but I am in a book club and sometimes need a certain title right away. Hate to go buy a book brand new and my favorite Borders may be closing down soon (boo hoo)

Remember though, that books will be sent using media mail and may not always get to you as quickly as you'd hoped. I had one arrive 2 days after I requested it and another took a couple of weeks. But, in my experience it usually takes a week to 10 days.

I always request media mail when shipping books it is much cheaper but can take longer.

I have been a member at bookcrossing since it began(have a couple of accounts), there you can do a hunt for a book that has been put out in the wild in your area as in a scavenger hunt and you can release books into the wild for others to find it is a lot of fun, plus you create your bookshelf that is for swapping, all free and lots of fun.

you can look up your area in the list for released books and go on the hunt! I often leave books at hospitals in the waiting rooms because so many people end up there with nothing to do and a free book can come in handy.

I often hit the goodwill and salvation army stores for super prices on books.

I'm a member of the paperback swap for several years now. I've only had about 1 problem when the lady was in the hospital. She finally gave me back my credit. Otherwise its a great way to get books & audio's. Love it!

I donate all my paperbacks and newer magazines to our local library. I also donate hard backs and cookbooks, which are good sellers.
Our library system is so broke they can't even get paper clips and other incidentals. Someone started Friends of the Nipomo Library and one of the fund raisers is selling books and magazines in the front lobby. Major fund raising is through a silent auction with the items displayed in one of the display cases and through two or three big book sales.
