I had not signed up previously, but I read a lot anyway. I keep up on another thread with ‘what is everyone reading’, and May was so busy I only read 2 short books. I’m into another now and already have several downloaded in prep for vacation coming up soon. I’ll participate as I can though!

Thanks for the info, Elmer. I plopped my butt down in front of the PC and poked around, learning a little more. Its a fairly new experience for me. My library only recently went digital and its been so easy to find a good book without buying from Amazon... until now when I go looking for something specific. :)

This sort of format (Goodread) might not lend itself to my idea. I'd be willing to buy a paperback copy, read it and pass it on to someone else. My main issue with buying books is that I already have 5-6 bookshelves full of books that I can't bear to part with and no library for massive storage. If I passed it on, I wouldn't need to store it.

Just an idea.

There are even free books for Amazon Prime members so that's an idea also. Prime Reading. This month's book isn't available but there are quite a few free books to choose from. Something to think about for future months :)

The "Prime first" or whatever it's called could be a great resource. That is how I found "The Naturalist" last year.

I'm in Canada and found out that there are many holds on And Then There Were None, so I purchased a copy. (Should have checked used book stores!) Who would have thought that an "old" book like this would still be so popular? Good on Agatha Christie for being such a good writer! I've seen the movie and the play, but have never read it and I'm really looking forward to experiencing it in print form.

I ordered both books from Amazon. I checked the library in my little town and they had a copy of the Agatha Christie book but not the other one...but it was out. I should get them both next week. I think I'm going to sell some of my other books I have piled up, to help pay for the books for this book club. ( :

Sure, happy to share what I found. I read a fair amount and so I try to make use of Overdrive as much as reasonably possible, and using several different libraries. Each library has a slightly different OD subscription and definitely different customer preferences so often one has something available or with a shorter wait-list than another. In California, residents can have a card from any in-state library system that takes state funding and most do, so I've accumulated many cards (from the larger systems, the smaller ones aren't worth having). Thing is, you usually need to apply in person. We drive around enough so that isn't a problem.

This book seems to have quite a following and available copies were hard to find so I looked harder and came upon the source I gave the links for. I was a bit surprised that the copyright had expired and it was in the public domain, but maybe that's what happens after one or two copyright renewals? I don't know enough about it to be sure.

I found a lot of sites to download it but I didn't know how safe they were so I didn't suggest them. I'm glad you found this one.

Guess I am in again. My husband and I share an amazon account so any books ordered come on both if our kindles. He has ordered and read The Naturalist so I just called it from the cloud to read. I'm not sure this will be my kind of book but am willing to give it a try.

I'd like to join but I read two books a week and put the best sellers on hold. Presently I have four books going. The Perfect Mother, Biography of Paul Simon, After Anna, and My Ex-Life. I don't have a kindle, just use our wonderful library. I prefer real books, call me old-fashioned. But good luck. Maybe I'll join later. I've read the Girl on the Train. (and saw the movie)

Llily316, I am SO glad to know I'm not the only 'old fashioned' one here. I don't have a Kindle, either, nor do I want one. I want real books! And I also go through about 2 books a week, sometimes more, occasionally less. Years ago, when I had a house full of boys, I often had 3 or 4 books going at the same time, one in each of the rooms I was most often in. That way I could pick one up and read a few sentences (or more) whenever I had a few spare moments in that room. Not sure I could keep them straight if I were to try that now.

I was old fashioned up until a year or two ago, so I understand it! We'll try to pick books that also have a print option. It might be easier to get them at the library!

I love the feel and the smell of real books, but the kindle can be very handy at times. When our power goes out during thunder storms here, I can still read. Same for bedtime -- lights out but the kindle book is still there. If I had to choose, it would be real books, hands down. Our library is wonderful. Not so many books I want to read on hand maybe, but I can order whatever I want from almost any library in the state. I just ordered "The Naturalist" and it will be here in 2 or 3 days.

For those who do a lot of out of town travel, and those who do a lot of in-town travel (as with being the family taxi cab shuttling kids from here to there), the convenience, capacity, and small size of a Kindle trumps other alternatives that are perhaps more pleasing for some in a tactile sense. Always ready to use with the book you're reading during unexpected moments of available time, yet taking up little space. It's a solid hit with my family members who fit this profile.

I didnt like my Kindle when i first got it because I preferred a book, too. For me, its a lot easier to do a search with a book in your hand, even now. If I'm needing to look back, i know whether what I'm looking for is on the left hand side or the right side, and at the top or bottom of a page. BUT, after getting used to the Kindle i could not and would not do without it! My sister bought me my first Kindle as a Christmas gift. Best present ever!

Started reading Agatha Christie the other night at work, but then got sleepy. Didn't get a lot of sleep the last few days so will try and read some tomorrow after a good night's sleep. Or maybe try and read some just before bed, might put me to sleep-lol. Seems like that happens a lot lately. Have an old friend who can't read anymore because no matter how good the book is it puts her right to sleep. She is only a few months older than me! I find myself getting sleepy more and more and hope that doesn't happen to me. I love to read!

Eld, do you have any specific questions? Basically we vote on a book the month before, and then at the start of the month, we have about 3 weeks to read the book, and the last week of the month is for discussions. For this month's book, we will start discussions around the 23rd.

We are picking 2 books per month to help with those who have trouble getting one or the other. You can pick either or both if you want. I'm a little behind getting July's vote going but I'm going to try to get that out soon. I might do the voting for 2 months at a time.
