Book Sale Books

Today I went to the library just to use the copier, the computer, and check some references. A table by the door was piled with books for sale for 50 cents. I was very pleased to find A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. I have looked for this book at a bargain price for at least 10 years. I long ago determined not to read it until I could obtain a very reasonably priced copy. I cannot take it with me on my frequent travels, so it will not be read quickly, and this along with its enormous size disqualifies it from library borrowing. Finding it - an apparently brand-new hardcover for just pennies - makes it a red-letter day!

Of course, the online resources make this type of booksale search hopelessly archaic, but this was not a book I was beside myself with anticipation to read. It's probably a great book to take to the cottage in Maine this summer, and possibly leave there to be taken up by another holiday renter. Now I will have to mentally add another book to my "search booksale list."

I may not even enjoy the book, but I have certainly enjoyed searching for it for so very long. Is there a book you have looked for and found at long last, or maybe you are still searching?
