oh wow well that is not good news, I sure hope they are wrong and it is nothing serious at all and that he will get past it. It is good that you reported it to the proper people you may save a life, you just never know. I know of a friend of a friend that had the same thing happen a full bottle of pain meds was stolen from their home, turned out the person that stole it was attempting to commit suicide.

Just to reassure you about the aneurysm, many people have them without having surgery, depending on their size. It would be important to keep his blood pressure down close to normal, though. His doctor should be able to explain that to you better. And by size, I meant the size of the aneurysm.

Socks12345, no we are not getting a refill, and there were no refills on the original prescription. Hubs is using Aleive, and it seems to work OK.

I hope that your tests show that things aren't as bad as you are thinking.

If there's something worse than single trouble - it's double trouble. I hope that you don't have repercussions to deal with regarding the disappearing pills, to increase your anxiety.

Glad that you are putting this behind you and hope that hubby gets the relief he needs from the oct meds. Is he able to eat and drink dairy? It may help with the tummy issues that the Aleve and/or Ibuprophen issues. Be very careful and keep that door locked, Dotmom.

This is a good reminder for everybody though - do NOT discuss prescriptions with other people. Especially if they are for pain meds or something expensive.

In this city, if you were to mention you had vicodin, people would harass you to no end about them. Until finally somebody breaks in and takes them (or stages a home invasion and beats them out of you).

Most pharmacies here won't even say the name of the meds when they hand them to you, they just show you the print out. Who knows who is listening, and might try to follow you!

Also, don't leave bottles out where anybody can see them, even through the window.

I am so sorry you had to go through this, and I am glad the Alieve is working for him.

Sleeperblues, thanks for that info. I knew though when I saw aneurysm that he didn't need the aleeve or ibuprofen.

I know what you mean, Dances. Glen was on some heavy duty meds at times and I wouldn't even tell people. They managed his pain mainly though with methadone.

I wish I could put this pill thing behind me. There is absolutely NO doubt that shelly took the pills. None! I mentioned it to a couple ladies downstairs, and to warn them. Shelly has been going crying to the other tenants about my accusing her of stealing and she didn't do it. Then she called the police today and said we (the ladies I talked to, and me) were gossiping about her. Get this...this evening one of those ladies, Dori, was sitting in the hall talking to another tenant, and a police officer came and told her that the gossiping had to stop, and he was going to all the APTS to notify everyone, and if we don't, Shelly will take an injunction out against us....what ever that means. He had gotten to several downstairs APTS, when he got a call and had to leave, but he told Dori, he had to leave but will be back tomorrow. Truly, this morning after making my report to the BLDG manager, and our Dr, I figured that was it. Being it is her word against ours, nothing will be done. But now we will be censured about what we can say to each other???? Yeah I need this like a another hole in my head, with Hubs back problems and trying to get the right timing of the pain meds, and making sure he takes them with food, and now the anurism scare. I had very little sleep last night and tonight I've been to bed several times, but I can't turn my mind off. Thanks for the kind words, encouragement, support and advice, KT gang.

Dotmom, I thoroughly sympathise with your situation and am sure that in your heart of hearts you believe your neighbour stole the pills, and she may well have. But, without proof, telling everyone in your building that she did steal the pills is essentially slander, and that's what the policeman is trying to head off at the pass.
What if, for instance, a person in your building was to tell everyone else, "Watch out for Mr Dotmom. I'm sure he's a child molester." Of course, you know that isn't true, but soon all the building is looking at your husband and talking behind their hands. What would you do?
You could warn your friends in a general way, but to out and out accuse without proof can cause problems, as you have discovered.

Dotmom I hope they find out what is ailing your DH and can help him easily.

It certainly seems the neighbor is a suspect.

I know you said you searched everywhere but did you look in the nooks and crannies of the sofa or chair your DH was sitting? A round prescription bottle could easily fall though. Not just under the cushions but into the framework.

I totally agree with Colleen (Our daughters name, love it) and WC. After not sleeping much and doing a lot of thinking, I came to that conclusion and will not speak of the incident again. If I can let me describe what happened. She and I were sitting at our dining room table. On the table, was some folders and papers, that Hubs has been working on getting ready for taxes. On the , near where she sat, was a small triangle of meds. The box of Aleve, the box of Ibuprofen, and the prescription pill bottle. As we were sitting there having a nice chat, I looked at that bottle, thinking we will have to hide that somewhere until we find out how to dispose of it correctly. There is no other furniture except 3 chairs, with cushions by the table. As soon as I came back to the table after seeing her out the door, I came back to the table to do something with the bottle.....it was not there. Hubs and I looked all over the room, even under pieces that are not near the table, so did the police officer. This gal has been in the system and I think knows the how to work the system. She is sort of small and pitiful looking, always telling everyone how she is brain damaged from an accident, and now I think she is a damn good actress. This will be the last time I speak of this here, and in our bLDG. It is a no-win situation. I can't PROVE she took them, although I KNOW. I will not get the pills back, hell, I don't even want them back except to destroy them. It pains me that this event is going to divide the tenants to those who believe us and those that believe her. Hopefully all will die down. I have other things on my mind now, like the very difficult job of getting Hubs down the stairs and into the car by 7:30 am on Monday for the ulta-sound test for a possible anurism.

Dot, I hope you respond to this question. I guess I didn't pick up that DH needed the vicodin/aleve/ibuprofen for BACK PAIN. Is that correct? Because an aneurysm can cause back pain. Definitely get him on Monday because I think that symptom in relation to an aneuysm can mean the aneurysm is large.

Hi Dotmom - sorry to hear of all the trouble experienced. My Mom had an aortic aneurysm around her belly button area. She was give a choice for surgery but said no - she was tired of living and ready to let nature take it's course (she was 81 when she passed). Her surgery would have been successful because it was 4cm when caught. She did have serious back pain with it. My Mom was a widow (missed my Dad every day since 1984) and had COPD and severe rheumatoid arthritis - she was physically slowing down from old age.

This is treatable. They were going to put a mesh sleeve around hers to support the vein walls from stretching any further. She had over 21 surgeries in her life time and wanted no more. Her other illnesses had taken their toll and she was just simply tired of suffering in daily pain. Physically her body was in it's 90s.

I have complete faith your husband will get through this. At 4cm in Canada they recommend surgery. If smaller they check it annually with ultrasound. It's treatable. So keep the faith. Be glad that they caught it. Back pain is very common with this and can be very severe. My Mom thought it was arthritis so she never mentioned it until it got unbearable.

sleeprblues & McPeg.....I mentioned to Hubs yesterday, that I wondered if the possible anurism was the cause of the pain in his back. It seemed to come on almost overnight, and it was bad enough that I had to help him up from the bed or where he was sitting. Even when the DR looked at the xrays they took, last Tuesday and mentioned his back looked very arthritic. I wondered why the pain started all of a sudden. He is 81, and as with me, his mind is almost as sharp as ever, but our bodies have gone to hell. Believe me, he will get to that ultra-sound APPT, if I have to carry him. Even though the hosp/clinic is just 5 mn away, we have to start out 45mn to an hr ahead just to get him downstairs and into the car. Just a little glimmer of a good thing....we have heard that a main floor APT will be opening up in abt 2 months, and we are first in line for it. That would be such a relief!!!

Just a thought, you might consider having the posts pulled, because once it gets on the internet it stays there forever. Then if anyone asks, just ignore. I know what you mean living in an apt or even in a housing tract. Somehow things get taken out of context. We found this out the hard way many many years ago when we were selling a house and moving to another city due to a new job. As we were leaving one of the neighbors told us the others had taken up a petition to make us move--there was a lot of turmoil in the area between neighbors and they though we were going to sell to a person of another race, plus other rumors. I told them we would sell to who ever bought the house and had to keep my kids in the house if not in school. To this day, not one of them has every contacted me, but I have not contacted them.
So sad how people are/were. Just hang in there and you can contact me direct if you wish. BE VERY careful and this person could be dangerous.

This is why I like to have a powder bathroom near the main entrance to the house. It's a nice way to funnel guests into the house and have a place for them, painters, contractors, etc., to use the bathroom without allowing access to much else. We don't have much medicine in my house except for ibuprofin etc., and dh's blood pressure and thyroid pills. I have other things I leave out in my master bath like good jewelry. I don't want that stolen either.

I was going to mention, that speaking about this to any one else, beside those involved..(Dr., pharmacy, police,)would not be a good idea at all. I understand wanting to let others know, to put narcotics away before this person comes to their residence, but it's walking a really fine line. You're right, to keep quiet about this subject, from now on. Just focus on your DH, as you are.

Dot mom, so sorry you are having to deal with this in addition to your worry about your husband's health. My mom found out about 10 years ago that she had a lower aorta aneurysm. She went yearly then 2x yearly for ultra sounds to check on it. Finally last year the Dr said she needed the surgery. They went into the arteries on both sided of the groin and repaired it with an endovascular stent graft. There was no big incision, just where they entered the arteries. She is 86, and has done beautifully. She said right before the surgery, she would lie awake at night worrying about it rupturing but she didn't tell anyone. Her recovery was quick and she is so glad she had it done. Good luck to your husband, please keep us updated.

I am truly shocked and amazed that the police would send an officer out to lecture people about gossiping. That is a CIVIL matter and the police do not get involved in civil matters.

As far as slander is concerned -- you can say anything you want about anyone, as long as it's true. So unless you have irrefutable proof that this woman took the pills, you cannot be saying that she did. You can say that you suspect her of having taken the pills, because that's true. And she won't win any action against you for slander unless she can prove that she has been harmed in some way -- loss of employment/income, eviction, etc.

This tells me she has an in or two with the cop. Are they related? Friends? There's some connection to the cop doing it or someone close to him. It's totally inappropriate for an officer to be doing this. If it happened to me I would hope a friend of mine would file a complaint with the police department about his actions.

Except for process serving or the like police are not to get involved in civil cases. And since there was an investigation going on which I assume is still open, it's even more inappropriate for him to be going to lecture and threaten people like that.

Although lindsey_ca brought up many good points, "irrefutable" doesn't apply. Civil cases use "preponderance of the evidence" which basically means whose evidence carries more weight. Circumstantial evidence is strong and credible and wins a lot of cases. It all depends on the facts, the circumstances and how it's presented. Right now from what I've seen there are a few facts that can be stated, she was there, the pills were there, after she left the pills were gone. Draw your own conclusion.

Sorry for your troubles Dotmom. Hope all settles down quickly and things go smoothly on Monday. In the meantime, grab a beverage of choice, turn on a favorite show, tape or some favorite music and follow this prescription: Take one cat on the lap every hour. Pet and scratch cat until blood pressure lessens and a smile returns to your face. Repeat as necessary.

I totally agree with Cynic. There is something fishy about the cop getting involved with wanting to stop the gossip. Not the usual way of doing things, for sure.

I do hope you will consider contacting gardenweb to get this and any other posts removed about this situation. It could come back to bite you on the butt.

If it comes down to I can't even post about something that happened to me, I can't speak about it in my BLDG, it seems to me that I have lost my freedom of speech. I AM THE VICTIM HERE. That is the end of it, I'm done speaking about it.

I'm so sorry all this has happened and you and your DH have been so upset. Let it go. You know the woman is not worty of your trust. Keep your mouth shut and avoid her as much as possible.

It might be a good idea to call the police station and ask for the captain. Find out if they sent an officer to your building. Impersonating an officer is serious, and there may be a pattern hear that can be followed to settle it all.

Try to avoid her, but if you end up seeing her in the hall, just once tell her you are sorry if you offended her, you were so upset. Drop it, and then stay away from her and just be very careful about safety issues. You should be able to continue as normal in your building.

I'm sorry you have to contend with all this added stress and I hope DH heals quickly.

I wouldn't say a thing to that thief, much less apologize. And I also agree, why the heck should this post be pulled. No one has named the party involved, nor the town. No one knows who she is!! I will agree that you steer clear of her, Dot. And as for her suing you for slander--I highly doubt that. And as Cynic mentioned, it would only take a PREPONDERANCE of evidence, and I highly believe that Dot would be the more believable witness. (Thanks Judge Wapner-I learned that by watching him on People's Court many years ago, lol)

Theft of narcotics is a criminal matter -- hence the need for irrefutable evidence if you are claiming someone committed a crime.

Slander is a civil matter, in which the police do NOT get involved.
