Dchall, I don't know what the soil in San Antonio is like. But when I moved to Tx from FL I was armed for war with nematodes. My arsenal included marigolds and plastic. In FL it is a teriffic problem, it is a constant battle. My mother gave up on growing tomatoes because the nematodes (root knot) just take every thing down. They are a huge problem. I was delighted to find out I didn't have to automatically treat for them here. I think it is the FL sandy soil or acidity or something but FL is a huge nematode breeding ground. Here in Tx, we have a chance of using organics and such. It is just different in TX. Except for the heat causing blossom drop, growing tomatoes here has been a real joy. Charlie, In a previous post, you said you couldn't get distilled water, I would suggest just buying deionized water at the store. If you want it to not be pH 5 it has to be freshly distilled/deionized or buffered because it reacts with the CO2 in the air to drop the pH from 7 to 5. Setting up a still is a pain, see if filtering systems would be cheeper cause they are much easier or maybe the filtering systems at grocery or healtfood stores would probably work well enough. I dont see why you couldn't rig something like this yourself. It is made of mustard oil, citrus oil, and capsaicin-from chili peppers, a detergent -wetting agent I believe fabric softeners have the right nonionic detergenets in them, and vegetable oil. A home made conconction would sure be easy to try.

"How should I adjust the watering time based on the date? " You can't adjust watering time simply by the date at least I can't see how it could be done and still be accurate. The amount of daylight alone IS NOT a good indicator of ET and subsequent watering times. The "Factor" you are searching for is calculated from information you are leaving out such as temperature .. humidity .. and WIND?? .. in addition to the days solar input that your are working with that by the way can be modified significantly by cloud cover. .. if you want to develope an accurate software then the user must input the basic and current weather data each week. ( temperature .. humidity .. WIND ?? .. and solar radition as modified by cloud cover ). The good news is the equations you are looking for are already in the library and have been developed by some very good scientist / engineers. Just plug them in to the computer and you can calculate a theoretical ET for a period of time and a given set of weather data. Then each user then needs to divide this theoretical ET by the actual ET for any given day or period to establish an error from the theoretical ET .. a cofficient sometimes refered to as a "crop" coefficient. Once this coefficient is determined the software's calculated or theoretical ET determined for any set of weather conditions can be modified easily to give the actual ET for a given period of time ( a day week ect..) ET ( Actaul ) = Kc x ET ( Theoretical ) This ofcourse can all be converted to run times given that you know your systems percipatation rate BUT keep in mind how much time you need to water is not directly related to actaul ET. The uniformity of the irrigation system as well as soil conditions and other factors will affect final run times. Good Day ...

We have these in one of my workplaces, and they don't work flawlessly. The operatory sinks will sometimes not go on even if you are waving your hands like crazy. Then they will go on spontaneously at full blast when you aren't anywhere close. There is no manual override. The toilets do not flush automatically all the time either. However, they do have a separate push button, luckily. One restroom though, every single toilet or urinal would flush as you walked through the room: I used to skirt the wall trying to see if I could get by without it happening.

Our DCS AG 36" range does not have any time controls. We use this oven for really big items (full sheet pans & large roasting pans), entertaining, and for warming. However, we also have a 27" Gaggenau convection wall oven & Gaggenau Combi-steam oven, stacked, that we use every day. Both ovens have timed operation, time delay, & time shut off--I use these features a lot & would not want to be without them. Having said this, we also operate them "manually" & use a stopwatch or timer that does not control the oven. It really boils down to how much automation you think you will use vs. cost for those features. Also, check out how complicated it is to you to set a particular oven's delay start & timed stop. Ovens do not all operate the same way.
