That's a beautiful harvest Annie! I'm so glad to see those stubborn tomatoes are finally coming in. What do the striped tomatoes taste like? I've never seen such lovely beans before, and the sight of all those cukes makes me salivate for half sours.

This is the time for you to really start enjoying the fruits (and veggies) of all your labors. Everyone has such lovely harvests this time of year. I am SO JEALOUS. I have a basil plant, a rosemary plant, chives, and a struggling cherry tomato with two buds on it. Everything else just burns up with the sun, and the salt wind.

Oh, Annie, I'm so jealous! Unfortunately my garden looks more like I put a fence around weeds and occasionally I find something edible back there. I have been a bad gardener this year and haven't given it the attention it needs.

The striped tomato looks like one I'm growing this year called Burpee Red Lightning.

That's a great harvest. We are getting loads of herbs and the tomoatoes are small this year...some say it's because the weather is soooo hot.

Looking good Annie. Your herbs look especially fantastic! I always grow herbs and for some reason didn't this year. What goes through my brain sometimes is beyond me. Anyway, looking good. Another possibility for your mystery striped is a variety named 'Red Zebra' a variant of the green when ripe 'Green Zebra'.

My tomatoes have peaked and are on the downward side of full production, and the cukes, like you are going crazy this year. My 35 pepper plants should be loaded up within the next week or so!

The basil is gorgeous! Something keeps eating mine, so the leaves are not so luscious-looking. Lovely produce, Annie.

Maureen, I have to admit that Elery is a champion bean snapper, and has helped a lot with those. He works some darned strange hours, though, so most of my canning is still done alone.

Boo, I haven't been to the garden in over a week, we'll see whether the weeds have taken over or not....

Sherry, for some reason the bugs have pretty much left the basil alone, I think they're concentrating on the potatoes and the zucchini! I'm going to pick a bunch this weekend and make pesto for the freezer, I think.

And tonight, I'm eating that striped tomato!

Better go have a look at that garden this week Annie. My patch of tomatoes took off in the last couple days. Last week I had a couple ripe and now there are several ripening every day. They seem to go from green to ripe almost overnight.

Looks better then my garden. Between the deer and the dry weather I've got tomatoes and peppers only. One single yellow squash that I put in the chili pot because I though more would be on the way. Pretty hard drought on this side of Michigan. The deer have been coming right up to the house at night and drinking water from a bucket on the back steps.

No garden here, just a couple of toms in the flower bed and a few Italian pepper plants someone gave Kim at work. They all look good, should have some ripe toms any day.
My annual herbs are in planters and have done great..they get watered every night, so our very dry weather has been to their liking I guess. We keep pouring the water to the flower bed but the grass is very brown at the moment.

My tomatoes are done; I'll replant in September. My herb garden has been sickly this summer. I am struggling just to get a few basil leaves and something ate every single itsy bitsy leaf on the parsley.

Michael, it's extremely dry here too, Dad's been running the sprinkler nearly every day. We've had less than an inch of rain in the last 6 weeks. I do need to check those tomatoes, though, I'm down to my last two jars of salsa. The deer here drink from the pond with the cattle but the grass and forage is so sparse that we are feeding hay already and the deer are at the feeders with the horses and cows. I told Dad we need to shoot a couple, if we're going to feed them, we should be able to eat them! Jessica could help me....

Maureen, I forgot to answer your question. Yes, those beans turn green as soon as they hit boiling water. The kids call them Aunt Annie's Magic Beans because they can change color. LOL They love them, so it's all good.

Nancy, I think I need to plant my herbs in planters too, it's nearly 20 miles to the garden if I need basil. :-(

Nice veggies! Your unknown tomato looks like Mr.Stripey. Grew two plants this year and only harvested 4 tomatoes off them. They were great though. The color inside was yellow with orange along the edges and tasted sweet. Enjoy.

Nice harvest Annie! I've never seen purple beans before.... I'm guessing they taste the same for the most part. The herbs look great for sure....I'm making pesto this weekend too as my basil is about the only big bounty I've had this year. I've been eating the few tomatoes one at a time...buying them at the farmers market for your salsa and Sharon's pasta sauce for canning.

Annie everything looks wonderful! I'm so jealous although I have lots of gardens alas we have so much shade I can't find a decent spot for veggies. Actually the middle of the from yard gets lots of sun.....hmmmmm

I'll see what I can do for you Jessy. Firearm season won't start until November. I've seen one nice buck and deer are very plentiful this year. The thought has crossed my mind that if they must ruin my garden then I'll just eat THEM.

Annie, those Rutgers you got me into are turning ripe by the dozen this week.

My sweet corn is ready, Dad says. Those Rutgers are prolific and reliable, aren't they? Some tomatoes just can't "stand up" to our hot summers and short growing seasons but Rutgers sure can. I'll bet I have some there now.

And of course, I gotta pick the basil. Some more. It's a tough darned job. LOL.

Mustangs, I'd sure share, if you could figure out how to ship basil from Michigan to Florida!

David, the purple beans taste like green beans but they stay a bit firmer when cooked. I really like them, and they are easier to pick, those purple beans stand out a bit more while the green ones just blend in with the foliage.
